Annoyingly, the B on my laBellas has gone dead, to the extent that it doesn't balance with the other 4.

Looking at that spec sheet, I'm thinking that the cab was available in either 4 or 8 ohms. It should say on the plate which yours is.

There's a few companies that do wraps. Will require a bit of work, but could be a fun project if you are practically minded. -
Another 'you can't go wrong at that price' from me.

And you're not alone - which is what makes music so special. -

I seem to have this tendency to block out the stuff I don't like (see Dire Straits contribution earlier in the thread), so only thought of these two tracks by an artist I love that I think are pretty awful; Bob Marley - Iron, Lion, Zion and Buffalo Soldier. I get the historical significance of the latter, just find the hook butt-clenchingly naff. -
Elton John was the office boy at Mills Music in Denmark Street. He replaced my old boss who had been promoted (and later went on to set up Safari Records - Toyah, The Boys, Johnny Clegg).

Bands you generally dislike, but you do like a few of their songs.

Go on then, I'll bite. She's Leaving Home, A Day in the Life. There may be a couple more. -
I'm usually in full agreement with your wisdom and advice on here, but I made a decision along these lines only to have a conversation later with a friend who made me regret it. I fell out with a long term friend/ musical partner with whom we had transitioned our blues covers band to an originals blues-rock band. We fell out over something that seemed at the time irreparable, leading to me walking out. Met up with a pal, drummer with a very well known band from the 80s, still doing the nostalgia circuit every couple of years, who had also just had a bust up with the main man. He thought it may have been the end for him, but he was called the next morning and main man said that the row was because they both cared about the point so much, and that was a good thing. Looking back (there's an unintended clue there) that was exactly what had happened between me and my singer.

Lyric writing for beginners book - suggestions, please.

Couple of points you raise here: Is originality the best outcome? I love Dylan but he wasn't original. Borrowed, and in the early days outright stole, much from others. Learning vs formalising a process of learning: It all has to be learnt. Bowie learnt his craft. OK, not by consulting a set of instructions, but got his vocal style by mimicking Anthony Newly. -

OK, seriously trumped there! -
He's great on that - what a lovely touch he has! However, the thing that astonished me, he'd never heard the track, and didn't recognise who it was? Seriously? Do music colleges not really encourage any breadth and depth of listening?

Not a 'How To' book, but when you said about writing poetry I immediately thought of Simon Armitage. Looked up his name + lyrics and this turned up https://www.faber.co.uk/product/9780571377619-never-good-with-horses/ . Might be a constructive read. His work with the band LYR is very enjoyable. -
@Piers_Williamson if you need some repertoire, I collated a playlist from the first few months of this thread - it got pretty huge 😯

No, still not seen it but want to. Talking of subtitles, I remember Channel 4 showed Jimmy Cliff's The Harder they Come as one of their opening week big films, showing that they were going to be diverse, anti-establisment and edgy. The watered down subtitles were hilarious!

Whole of that album for me. Love his earlier and much later stuff. -
Rare, but due to retailers and manufacturers finding green the hardest colour to shift. Sad, as I think it can look great, as it does for these two, but guitarists (of all string numbers) are a very conservative lot, with black, white and sunburst outselling everything else.

Hence the lack of grunt with Class D amps and neo speakers?

Oh my goodness, I had managed to blank that one from my memory. Didn't even remember it being part of Brothers in Arms!! Thanks, but not thanks for the reminder 🫤 -
You might get some better answers posting in the amps and cabs section - there are some very knowledgeable builders active over there such as @Bill Fitzmaurice.

Same here. Would never want one, but they are great to see out in the wild! -
I thought the sound I was looking for was more phaser, but listening around on Youtube, the nearest I could find was chorus, used in a very specific way, to give a slow swirl. Otherwise, I'd agree!

I know the preferred (not cast in stone) sequence is for distortion before modulation. How does this work if you want to use your amp's gain for distortion? Does the FX loop put the modulation in the right place? Thanks, Mike

Dire Straits, Calling Elvis, and Twisting by the Pool. Their first two albums are up there in my all time favourites. Like Making Movies, really like Love Over Gold, and don't mind Brothers in Arms, although the ultra modern production has dated badly. But those two singles - what on earth are they all about???
