  1. Same as you Jack, 48 out of 50 artists, but several more songs I don't recognise. Karen Young and Donald Peers - and I used to work in a record shop/jukebox record supplier specialising in oldies!
  2. Her delivery was sublime. The story behind the recording of Dusty in Memphis is well worth looking up if you don't already know it. And this track from that album is a favourite - check out the snare accent, on the two every second bar. Makes the song move beautifully.
  3. I chose this last year for my 94 year old aunt's funeral - she used to holiday in the South of France in the 50s through to the early 70s when foreign travel was unheard of for most of us. Very cool song.
  4. That's the one with lovely horn arrangements isn't it?
  5. The Hair Cast could have included some interesting names - Sonja Kristina, Marsha Hunt, Melba Moore, Tim Curry, Paul Nicholas, Elaine Paige and many more
  6. Great song. Was thinking of posting the Joe Cocker version from the Mad Dogs and Englishmen tour.
  7. And while we are on a Country vibe, the great John Prime song, which Dolly among countless others have performed - here's Bonnie Raitt's version of Angel from Montgomery
  8. This was just on TV so would be rude not to post: Dolly Parton I Will Always Love You (apparently she wrote this and Jolene on the same day)!
  9. Can't believe Jimmy Webb's classic hasn't appeared yet - And I need you more than want you, And I want you for all time... Wichita Lineman, Glen Campbell
  10. Two versions of I Don't Wanna Talk About It (and no, neither are Rod Stewart). First up, the original by Crazy Horse, then a personal favourite, the version by Everything But The Girl.
  11. This could equally fit in the Blues thread. Seeing David Coverdale appearing earlier, here's a great original - Bobby Bland, Ain't No Love.
  12. What a singer! Sold bucket loads of this album in the South London record shop I cut my teeth in.
  13. Couple of Disco Queens - Diana Ross Love Hangover and Rose Royce Love Don't Live Here Anymore. Still hoping @Bart Funk Basswill do his magic on Love Hangover one day 😏
  14. Only ever listened to Post as an album in its entirety and a few bits of the Sugarcubes, but always liked what I've heard of Bjork on the radio. This album was fabulous. So many styles, such clever production, and of course her wonderful voice. I really must get some more CDs. Enjoying your random selector @Newfoundfreedom!
  15. A couple from the Jazz world- Stan Getz and Astrid Gilberto, Girl from Ipanema And Chet Baker, who uniquely had (to my ears) the same tone with both his voice and trumpet, with a song with such an appallingly sexist lyric, but you have to forgive it as it is so good; My Funny Valentine
  16. Great track. Had forgotten it. Thanks for the reminder.
  17. Dylan wrote and performed some great love songs. And one that is possibly more about platonic/ family love as covered very movingly by the Pretenders:
  18. Been enjoying The Gabriel's album. This version of the Barbara Streisand track I think is stunning:
  19. Frank Sinatra, bit of C&W, bit of trad Jazz, Radio 2 on all day, including evenings as we had no TV. Guess it helped my eclectic taste, but probably not my bass playing.
  20. Been enjoying Ibibio Sound Machine over the last year hearing them regularly on 6 Music. Didn't realise this was 4 years old. Lovely squelchy bass!
