  1. It is indeed - just that I often find my preference to be at odds with public opinion! Let's hope the rest of your post doesn't come to fruition...
  2. Funnily enough, that was one that broke the mould - we did do the Creedence version.
  3. Just checked Babbitt's discography on his own website. He didn't claim it (although he did record with her in 70 and 71).
  4. Anyone else find themselves on the wrong side of popular opinion when it comes to original versions vs cover versions? Three examples for me that I've had to play: Ain't no Love in the Heart of the City - brought the Bobby Bland version to a band, everyone else wanted to do the White snake version. Too Hard to Handle - can't find anyone else who wants to play it in the Otis Redding style. Knocking on Heaven's Door - we played mainly Dylan covers, and the drummer insisted on ramping it up like the awful GnR version.
  5. Kudos to @Rob Cook Williams for using the search function 😎
  6. Dripping with Soul, and some lovely grooves going on. Aretha at her absolute Gospel finest.
  7. Interesting. It was pretty much saturation on my feed for a while. I'd love to know what sort of budget they had.
  8. I think we all now know @lowdown's Mastermind specialist subject 😎
  9. Me and a colleague (late 80s) were obsessed with Johnny Staccato. Great Big Band theme by Elmer Bernstein, and even a stylish clip (blink and you'll miss it) of some double bass playing.
  10. I used to put very small amounts on FB ads and made a highly focused target audience. Got nothing from it. There are a couple of bands who I have become aware of due to FB ads - When Rivers Meet are the ones I can name. No idea what they are like as I haven't listened to them, however, I have seen them climbing up the festival circuit bills.
  11. He kept that quiet! Really good to know (apart from OBBM's cables being so good I don't know if I'll ever need another)!
  12. Darned sight better than Yesterday.
  13. Nooooo!! Now if you had said Superman, Black Lace I would have wholeheartedly agreed.
  14. Some great names here, but all highly acknowledged albeit in their specialist fields. Unlike another example here of Andy Partridge who had some huge hits in the mainstream, but whose name, and musical contributions are somewhat overlooked. But then that's the joy of discussions such as this one.
  15. Martyn Ware - Impressive discography as a musician - Heaven 17, Human League, BEF, and producer - Terence Trent Darby, Tina Turner, Scritti Politi etc.
  16. Oddly for me (an atheist) it is choral music rather than Opera that can really have an impact. Mozart's Grand Mass in Cm, and Thomas Tallis Spem in Allium are two very different but great examples.
  17. Going for the Duke Ellington approach of only two types of music...
  18. So much great stuff to choose from in this genre. Thanks 👍
  19. Good job the rugby is in France this weekend!
  20. Occasional Spotify user here. I only use it for reference and anything I want I will buy a physical copy. Have a real problem with their business model and sound quality. An example was listening to Searching For the Young Soul Rebels - I couldn't believe how bad it sounded. Bought the CD and it was every bit as good as I remembered.
  21. Just seen the rest of the pictures. That's a great bass with no caveats. When you do add the caveats of your then lack of knowledge, experience, and the lack of available knowledge and resources 50+ years ago, this is absolutely exceptional.
  22. Cracking story and a cool looking bass.
  23. That's one hell of a line up.
  24. Pffft, go for the 6'41 12" version 😎
