1. I returned a defective bass recently, so that cost me nothing (other than the £40 I lost on the exchange rate!), but if you are simply returning because you are unhappy I assume it will cost the full price of your courier of choice, or perhaps a fixed charge if Thomann arrange it.
2. I have too many sets of this string, so am selling this brand new in the packet set of GHS Precision Flatwound strings. I believe these are the same strings as the much-lauded Lakland flats, just with different coloured silks. They are a really nice gauge and tension, not too flabby and not too tight. Strings Direct sell them for £34.99, I am asking £30 posted. Thanks Gareth
3. Martin Turner's tone on Wishbone Ash's "Argus" is pretty lush.
4. You are correct, I spotted the correct one but linked to the wrong bag!
5. Maybe make one fretless and then join a prog rock band?
6. If you can find one, the American Special Precision from 2012 was a very fetching, and quite similar, honeyburst.
7. Supprting Sam Kelly's Blues Band at Reading Jazz Club
8.
Just a plain, black, bass-shaped design with quality materials that won't fall apart after 6 months. Is that too much to ask for???

This is the kind of thing I'm after but high quality and available in the UK. Does anything like it exist??
That bag is the Levys EM8P, from their "economy plus" range.
9. Mono Vertigo may do it, their new Sleeve may be even better. The new Gator ProGo bag is very nice too.
10.
Really, in tune is in tune isn't it? I've never experienced issues with this.. Although, I'm replacing a BBOT with another BBOT, better quality grub screws, screws and finish are the reasons.
That was my point. Hipshot tuners have a higher gear ratio than the stock tuners, so you get where you need to be much more quickly, plus the quality is way better.
11. I swapped out the standard tuners on my American Special for Hipshots, much more accuare when dialling in that final cent to hit the note. I am thinking of changing the bridge too, only because the G and E strings suffer from the sideways slippage mentioned above. The Hipshot Vintage bridge should solve the problem with the minimum of change and fuss.
12.
Careful with the Psycho slaps, I found them higher tension than the silver slaps and twangier
Ah, not waht I want then!
13. Thanks guys, I may just stick with the current setup but change to Psycho Slap D and Gs.
14. I've owned some really nice stuff over the years, but my current rig is the best I've had by some distance. You can't get a bad sound out of the Demeter head, and the TKS 1156 cab in particular is terrific.
15. Hello all I have used Innovation Silver Slaps on my BSX since I bought it some five years ago. I like them a lot, but I fancy trying something else and was wondering what's out there in terms of low tension strings? I also fancy something a little thicker, gauge-wise, on the D and G strings. The BSX has a piezo that allows for adjustments to the volume of each string, so I could even mix and matchbrands if I wanted. The bass is a 5 string too, and I am tempted to go EADGC rather than the current BEADG, so a nice low tension C suggestion would be good! Cheers Gareth
16. Here's the second addition to my TKS family, a basic S112... And here it is with a bass, for scale Bought mainly for small gigs and rehearsals, but paired up with the 1156 it sounds pretty amazing
17. I had a similar experience when picking a FSR PJ bass. When I sent a general email asking if they would be able to pick me out a specific weight they said no, but when I ordered and asked again they sais no problem, so I guess money talks?
18. Looks like the Denon HiFi amp I had in the 1980s! I'm sure it's great though.
19. Just had an email back from a guy who stocks both. He said the Licensed tuners are great and there's no real need to pay the extra for the US, so he's just talked himself out of some extra wedge from me!
20. I have played fretless all the time in one of my bands for about six years now. I recently joined a blues band where I use a fretted P, but it's only a matter of time before I switch to the fretless for that band too. I much prefer fretless bass, and it sounds like you do too. If it makes you happy then go for it! Also, you can make a fretless sound fretted (sounds like you can do this already), but you can't make a fretted sound fretless, so it's fretless for the win!
21. I regret selling the TTE500 I had, a truly terrific amp.
22. I had exactly the same problem with a set of Status flats. Drop them a line and I am sure they'll send a replacement.
23. I bought some flats from Iain. It was a faultless transaction and I would happily deal with him again
24. I think they are back to up to speed now after the Christmas holidays. My most recent (15th!) order was placed on 31/12 and the items arrived 12/1, which is pretty good considering they were closed until 6/1. I returned the bass I bought on Wednesday this week (pre-paid by Thomann with UPS), and they received back this morning and have already refunded me the money!
