  1. I still can't believe (actually, sadly I can ) the amount of luddite hate that ERBs get on Farcebook whenever a pic of one is posted in a bass group. It amuses me that everyone who posts "that's not a bass it's a harp" or "just get a piano" or "Jaco only needed 4" seems to think they're the first ever to say it. Still, at least by publicising their bass bigotry it makes it easy to know which idiots to block. ERBs are very much not my cup of darjeeling, but I take my hat off to anyone who makes music with one. I like to see boundaries being pushed. Although only using 2 strings seems like a weird waste!
  2. I've just joined the tablet brigade -- picked up an iPad 2 off evilbay for pence. OK, so there are only about 3 apps in the App Store that are compatible with it, but one of them is a pdf reader and that's all I need. It will be more of a rehearsal tool than a live one, although I am going to experiment with going entirely paperless and put the gig set list on it. I also imagine it will come in extremely useful for my semi-regular dep gig where I need to refer to notes (or at least have them to hand as an insurance policy). I've bought a stand-mount for it and am going to experiment with attaching it to my Herc guitar stand. Failing that, I'll use the bottom half of my old mic stand.
  3. Absolute POS. 9 grand? 9 quid.
  4. Tobacco Road - The Nashville Teens
  5. A-Ha, Scoundrel Days Cut my wrist on a bad fart, and head for the door Outside on the pavement, the dog makes a mess Jamiroquai - Cosmic Girl So she laser beamed me with her cosmic @ss
  6. From 'Freed From Desire' by someone called Gala: My love has got no money, he's got his trampoline My love has got no power, he's got his trampoline... ('trampoline' in both cases is actually 'strong beliefs'. Except no, it's definitely trampoline )
  7. That's good news. Full props to your nursey singperson for leaping into action so effectively, who knows, she may well have saved the lady's life.
  8. Yesterday with Train To Skaville at the legendary Dublin Castle in Camden, a MadChat charity double-header with Birmingham's "Reggaelators" (who were seriously good). Perhaps unsurprisingly the crowd were amazing, up and dancing and singing from the word go. Had a brilliant time and raised a sh*tload of cash for Macmillan. Egging the crowd on in "Lip Up Fatty". Here I am giving my all to the break in the Specials' "Nite Klub" I even managed to get a sound I didn't hate out of the house bass rig... a first for me with an Ashdown And I had two compliments on my choice of shoes

Having said that, I'm probably going to do precisely that myself

  11. Like A Virgin - Madge
  12. On the other hand... just because you can't/won't, doesn't mean nobody else should.
  13. Goodbye Pork Pie Hat - Mingus
  14. Ludicrous isn't it? All so they can get the daft VU onto it. The size is the only thing stopping me from trying one.
  15. Tried it at rehearsal last night, HUGE hum when I plugged it in to the house rig. Turns out the rehearsal room's sockets don't like my 9v wall wart I quite like the sounds from the BDI21, I think I'll be using it more than I'd anticipated.
  16. The Shoop Shoop Song (Yeltsin His Kiss) - Merry Clayton/ Cher/ Betty Everett/ etc
  17. It's of something, that's for sure.
  18. If that was the last bass on earth, I would play harmonica instead. Properly hideous.
  19. All wired up and working now. Woohoo! The red LED between the Behringer and the Zoom is the tell-tale from the power distribution box underneath.
  20. Again and Again - Status Quo
  21. Pearl's Café - Specials
  22. It really is stupidly big. When you look at the circuit, it could easily be made to fit in a BB. Probably even a B.
  23. Just watching Repo Men on Netflix; one of the scenes has Nina Simone's "Feeling Good" playing in the background, and the interference from the dialogue made it sound like "gerbil running free, you know how I feel..."
  24. The last cable I had made for me was a totally bulletproof one by OBBM. These days I make all my own leads & patch cables -- I really enjoy soldering and find it therapeutic, maybe** I'm weird -- but I'll be following this thread with interest for recommendations. ** yes, I know, there's no 'maybe' about it
