1. It's the 'Herculean neck' thing that tickles me. If he thinks a Jazz neck is chunky, just how slim does he like them??
Poncy Southerners.
Gittish part Midlander/Southerners
 2. I think it has the potential to be very good. Will be interesting to see how it develops.
 3. Oh yes, it's a superb pedal. It knocks the living sh*t out of the Boss octavers in terms of tracking and, well, everything. Joe, that'd be much appreciated. Could you drop me a PM with your address? Thanks.
 4. http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...mp;#entry410975
 5. Like it says, my Pearl Octaver pedal is buggered. It gives a very faint and scratchy signal. The jack sockets are clean, as are the pots. Does anyone know of any pedal-fixing gurus who could have a look at it? It's a brilliant unit when it works, and I don't just want to consign it to the bin or stick it on a shelf to gather dust.
 6.
Except it's really not guitar playing. It's bass playing.
Strictly speaking, it's bass guitar playing. [/pedant]
 7. Fender Urge 1, if you can find one.
 8. What a big girl's blouse.
 9. Amp only for me, the cabs are non-SWR. Does that count? An SM-900 that I bought late last year. The sound is to die for, and my amp GAS is currently stone dead. Apologies for the truly shocking photograph.
 10.
Defo - she played on everything Motown apparently.
No, she just played on everything. Ever. You know that Entwistle bloke who used to supposedly play with the Who? That was her with a sticky on beard. And that Jocko bloke? Her in a wig. Anthony Jackson? Kaye, fat suit, boot polish. True.
 11. I see your Haribo and raise you a sherbet fountain, a dozen assorted paperclips and a picture of Hilda Ogden out of Corrie.
 12. This has been discussed in the past, although searching for said discussion is a pain in the arse. If memory serves, I believe the word from those in the know was that mixing speaker sizes does not necessarily have a beneficial effect & the best results are had from keeping a uniform speaker size. If I'm wrong with this recollection, please correct me! Certainly from personal experience, my rig sounds loads better with two 1x15s than it did with a 1x15 plus a 2x10 -- but YMMV. As the man said, suck it and see!
 13.
anyone got a recommendation for an easy intro for me to check out?
I'd start off with Heavy Weather and keep going from there. Enjoy!
I find both unlistenable :-( Does this make me a bad person?
Not at all. No more than my incredibly low opinion of Cliff Burton makes me a bad person.
technically amazing, but apart from that, just sounds like fret w*nking to me.
Fretless, surely?
 14. Curate's egg... good in places. Well, more than good. Genius in places. I will never ever tire of things like Havona, A Remark, Teen Town, The Chicken. But some of his work I do find almost unlistenable. Having said that, I still feel that he deserves his hype. Just imagine if he'd got together with Hendrix... I really hope this thread doesn't descend into yet another "jazz is sh1t" thing.
 15. Old enough to remember Kerrang! mag being launched. My mate probably still has issue #1 lurking somewhere.
 16.
I also spend a few years living in Bristol, (hello my babbers).
Ullo moy luvverr. 'Ow bist?
 17.
Opeth were labelled 'Forest-metal' on their first lp 'Orchid'.
Well they wood be, woodent they. Sorry.
 18.
they were charging the local mongs $200 for the privilege of having a table near the stage
And $300 to leave
 19. Surely Hayseed Dixie have beaten you to it with the CountryMetal thing?
sounds quite gritty
Yes, but we've got to take it seriously now apparently.

 21.
Maybe there's an after-market Papier-mâché Ampeg-looking thing that the Shuttle could hide within, thus it could end up looking as enormous as it sounds?
Yup. Here it is. There's a Shuttle hiding inside the head, and the cab is actually a 1x12".
 22.
Country music is, on the whole, very fine, IMO. Like the old stuff, like the new stuff, like country-rock, like alt-country. 15 years ago, I'd have killed myself for thinking that; but you grow up, and your tastes get broader rather than narrower. Same as I find something to enjoy in blues, metal, reggae, dance, classical ad inf.
Ain't that the truth. If I could show my 15 year old self some of the stuff in my current CD collection, I'd die of shock. In 1980 I'd sooner have poked in my eardrums with a soldering iron than listen to Mozart or Motorhead or Miles Davis.
Now, when it comes to hardcore British country music 'buffs', as they like to call themselves, that's a different story. Detest anything after Slim Whitman, build shrines to Boxcar Willie and drive around in rusty old Yank Barges with Confederate flag stickers. Weasel-featured, long greasy hair, tattoos, scars, ratty little moustaches, prosthetic limbs. And you should see their husbands.
coffee->screen
 23. How many different prefixes can be added to '-core' or '-metal'..?
 24. Grown? Nah not me. I'm just too lazy to write "oh for christ's sake change the record". errm sorry, I mean 'wink'.
