You want one that will hold up. SKB it.
Errm, what he said. Go for a 4U. If you're worried about ventilation and can live with the gaps, put the tuner at the top and leave half a U of space between it and the Aggy. It'll leave you with another half U of space under the Aggy, and thus plenty of breathing space. Where to buy? FleaBay can be your friend. That's where I got my Gator 4U.
JAZZ - No idea, what does Jazz bassists use?
JAZZ... according to the manual it's "A combo bass amp favored by jazz bassists".
  3. Is It Love? is another corker. Used to play this in a band I was in circa 1988ish. Ahhh, good times. God I loved the 80s.
  4.
+1 on the Sennheiser headphones, all our students get given a set of HD202 at the start of the year, I have about 5 different pairs, but my hd280 pros are my favorite for blocking out the rest of the world.
Another vote for Sennheisers. I have the HD280 Pros too, they are simply brilliant.
  5.
So who will be replacing you? Someone else new? Makes no sense.
My thoughts exactly. Smells a bit like cowsh1t to me.
  6. I like the Milkowski book. I've read it a couple of times and although the writing style may be a tad overexhuberent at times, to be honest I can't work out which bit is supposed to be uncompassionate. Jaco's illness is frankly portrayed. To treat it with kid gloves or pussy-foot around the subject would be insulting IMO. Pat Metheny has a tendency at times to open gob and insert shoeshop, and I think he's done it again.
  7. Yes, and now I have no excuse for not learning to read Ditto on the P.Turner interview, I like his views on 5 string basses. He could be onto something.
  8. Oh, there are some fabulous attitudes on that TalkAss thread. I don't know why there's so much debate over it... if Jacko-6X says it's a shakedown, it must be true.
  9.
I call her ''Lady in red''
No. No no no no no no no, NO. Oh no.
Let's imagine woman instead of the song. Who can deny that red is ''hot and sexy'' color?
Ohhhhhhhhhh yessssssssssssss.

    Stool!

I was just about to type 'Ikea' when I realised I'd been beaten to it! +1 for the cushion though. EDIT: also, fleaBay can be your friend. I picked up a pair of bar stools for my new kitchen for a tenner.
  11.
It {BGM} had a lot of adverts... Will stick to Bass player when i can find it.
Anyone else spot the irony here..?
  12.
Sounds like a bit of a tit.
I disagree entirely. He sounds like a complete tit. You're definitely better off out of that dictatorship Kev. Hope you find something more democratic
  13.
The public are f***tards,I wouldnt let half of them out without professional care workers
Absolutely right. Hold on, surely we're the public too..?
  14.
I was in AoS Nottingham once when a guy late teens/early 20s came in wanting to try a BC Rich guitar. Lether jacket with big zips, those big studded leather wristbands you metalheads like , bullet belt, all the metalwork. If the guy had stood under a big magnet, he'd have beaten and kicked himself to death involuntarly. Had all his mates with him, looked like theyd been covered in superglue and kicked around a scrapyard.
And there's today's coffee->screen moment.
  15.
It's not just music shops - I had a similar experience recently buying a car. My wife was looking for a Jeepy thing that would fit the dogs in the back. We went to the local Vauxhall dealer to have a look at the 4x4 they now do. They only had one brand new one. I told the salesman that there was no chance we would buy the new one but give us a blast around the block and if we liked it we would hang on for a used one. "no problem, just come in and we'll get some details that we need for insurance". So, all our life details typed into the computer and he disappears, comes back, "sorry - my manager won't let you drive it. We've determined you can't afford it. In any case a new model will drive completely differently to a used one, so there's no point you driving it". Wot!! You snotty bunch of scumbags!! So... we went round the corner to the BMW dealer who could not have been nicer and bought an X3 (an extremely good deal BTW). Peter Vardy - hope you're listening
That is utterly shocking. I hope you went back round to the Vauxhall dealer, waved the Beemer receipt at them and told them just how much free bad publicity they'll be getting. I reckon you should definitely complain to their head office, at the very least.
  16. Excellent review, and good pics too. Was there a particular reason why you didn't have a matching mahogany back too, to complete the full hippy-sandwich? Not that it detracts from this extraordinary instrument in any way.
  17. Perhaps the answer is to wire the gtrs and basses up so they can't actually be played or even picked up without being unlocked. And keep the kettle leads for the synths etc. behind the counter.
  18.
I may be wrong, but I would hazard a bet that anyone who has had problems, has encountered a younger member of staff. Saying that, it can go the opposite way, with the older boss having served his countless years in the business, which have rendered him a miserable cynic.
I'm glad you added the proviso at the end because it seems pretty much everybody here who has suffered appalling service at 'a certain bass shop located near Tottenham Court Road' received it from a certain senior staff member. Conversely, the staff member generally held to be their best was much younger. If there's a problem with young members of staff it usually seems to be lack of knowledge rather than surliness or arrogance, well that's in my experience anyway.
  19. Blimey, I wouldn't have put money on there being two bassists with that name... I remember seeing him with NYJO back in 90/91 or so... what a ridiculously talented bunch of kids
  20. Still playing, by the looks of it. 21.
Am I the only one who fell for the whole, rock and roll, get in a band, get drunk, strap your bass around your waist, look sexy, get in a fight, look cool and pull lots of chicks approach to bass playing?
I fell for the whole rock and roll, get in a band, have a few beers, strap your bass on at a comfortable height, who cares how it looks, avoid getting in fights because it's really dumb, look average and not pull all that many chicks but who cares 'cos I just love playing, approach to bass playing
  22.
I used to hate the way shop assistants played slap for a couple of minutes and then hand it to you.
Whenever that happened, I'd take the bass, play two notes, say "nah it's sh*t" and give it straight back.
  23. 'Tis true, the subtleties of the English language can be easily lost in translation sometimes. Unfortunately, it would appear that amusing comments about shutting doors seem to cross linguistic boundaries fairly easily.
  24.
See ya! Don't forget to close the door on your way out
Very constructive, well done.
  25.
I don't understand why we can't ridicule folk on silly prices... why can't we have some fun in the meantime?!
Simply because the words 'ridicule' and 'fun' do not go together unless you spent your school years stealing the smaller kids' dinner money. Guideline 5 stands, if you have an issue with a daft price then either send the seller a polite PM or ignore the thread. You can tell quite a bit about a seller through his responses to PMs too. Talkbass wouldn't stand for ridicule (yes, they have a rule), so I don't see why this forum should.
