2. And another praise in favour of it from me, although I must tell you all, how quick you forget, the Tech 21 VT Bass does all that and I think it does it a little bit better, but that was nonetheless delightful and very well played which is what matters. Good job
3.
On behalf of the rest of the BassChat membership: THANK THE LORD! glad it's finally sorted Gareth!
better still THANKS F//CK FOR THAT!
4. Good decision but your £300 budget does limit your choice, if you look at this link just to give you an idea the choice is not that big, http://www.guitargui...ategory=GUBA_15 you could afford any of the first 4 basses on that page and if I were you I'd go for the 3rd the Ibanez SR305 which is better than the Squier Vintage modified 5. Another option is a Warwick Rockbass at around £329 retail, which of course is more than you'd pay with cash in hand in a store if you are any good at haggling. Good luck with whatever you choose.
5. Change the tone and volume pots for 500K CTS Pots and fit a vintage paper/oil capacitor to give you that extra warm muffled sound once the tone is fully rolled off. I recommend you get one of these capacitors http://www.ebay.co.u...=item45fd1b2a8e and these pots: http://www.ebay.co.u...=item45fed125e1
6. I agree with E-Sharp, yeah you can have many different ones, each with opposite features, but if you can manage to play a tune on one you can manage them all with the same bass, so unless you decide to take a spare one to a gig, just in case your main one goes down by whatever gremlins, your role as a bass player is to be heard and to play the right notes, which matters more than the way you sound, i,e. Fender like or Warwick like, they are just different colours of the rainbow to me.
7. I wouldn't mind a cinnamon 5 strings active
8. 4 strings, 2 saddles, 1 pickup, 1 Volume control, 1 Tone control, 20 frets: as basic as it gets, and yet in the hands of a great player, it's the best thing your ears will ever be treated to! Enjoy!
9.
Look nice, apparently play nice, and the weight is fairly low. I think the downside is the crap pup.
yes that is correct, I had one, and modded it with a fralin spit coil hum cancelling pickup, and after that it was superb.
10. I've heard that there is a 6 - 8 months waiting time from ordering to delivery. Sorry never played one.
11.
I have a Hercules stand (not the one pictured). Folds up nice and compact, but the foam on one of the arms has worn out, which basically means the bass sits on the metal arm. Emailed the distributors for advice (wasn't asking for money back or anything, just a bit of help) and got a completely unhelpful reply saying they couldn't do anything. Won't buy any more.
And guess who is the UK distributor for these? Strings and Things of course.
12. Is it a 3 band or 2 band eq, that is the question. Have a look here http://www.seymourduncan.com/images/products/basslines/501040-110.pdf
13. You could also find a perfect replacement preamp made my Nostrand as per this link: http://www.notreble.com/buzz/2011/12/03/nordstrand-releases-pre-ernie-ball-music-man-inspired-2b-mm-preamp/
14. Ok I am not be an expert but I am someone who owned 2 Stingray 5's an earlier 1989 and a later 2000 model, the '89 had a lovely alnico pickup and the later 2000 a ceramic one. Now I have always found a huge difference between the two and always favoured the alnico one and so... I spoke to Seymor Duncan himself and asked him what would be my best bet to achieve the same sound as the alnico. he recommended SMB5a (5 strings similar to SMB4s for 4 strings) and that he wound these himself by hand and they are built to the exact same specs as the original alnico EBMM he said he was prepared to send a full refund if I wasn't satisfied. He was spot on.

16.
Im not sure where your coming from GW? Those are the key points of the thread thats all, If there is anything there you disagree with or feel I have miss quoted Im happy to point you to the relevant parts where they were said If its wrong then we should know, Im all for change from these debates too, I have changed to 5 strings and learnt to read after such threads so just because it looks like a slangy match in places I would be the first to try it if I had a 4x10 and 1x15 anymore and report back with my hands up. See many 5 string and anti reading threads where I have made no bones which camp I was in and then ate my words.
No no sorry, there is nothing that you wrote that I disagree with, and my rant (which is not really a rant but more of an observation) was aimed at the antagonistic level which seems to get more feral, each post and response from all those who have argued their individual points. So don't worry and apologies if you though I was having a go at you. The meaning of my observation was that if anyone has a valid point to make based on true tried and tested experience then it's worth they speak out, but it appears that other are just hell bent on quoting "wives tales" that they have "trolled" out of unfounded internet sources. oh best go, Ship Ahoy!
17. No recommendations from me because I am not you But... if I was you, I'd spend the cash on a lovely butterscotch Squier 50's style P bass, stick a duncan q/pounder in there and ftw! Cheers
18. I use a Tech 21Bass Boost Chorus that does a bit of flanger as well as chorus http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q0ueqpRHzIs http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iV0YJ4fMcjc
19. You should all chill, and remember this is a forum of discussions, only give your honest opinion and share your good experience when you have one, don't quote other internet trolls and refrain from answer unless you know what you are talking about, Why oh why, do some of you always end up bickering with one another just as if this was a "who's got the biggest knob" competition lol Chill Winston for f**k sake!
20. Wouldn't it be better to try either setup and see (hear) for yourself so you can decide what's best for you? We are all different and it's ok to experiment, what I might like you might not and viceversa.
21. Don't forget to drill the 4 holes for the neck / body joint with a fixed perpendicular top mounted drill, as you don't want those holes to go in at the wrong angle. Also my advise to you is to fit a proper bone nut instead of that plastic one that lets it down. I had a very wonderful Mighty Mite neck too and it was the most resonant neck I had ever had. Congrats.
22.
or go buy a couple of bottles of grolsch with the swing top lids.
That's what I have on all my basses some of which worth over 3 grand, Grolsch washers are cheap and they really work no need to mess about with a screwdriver risking to damage the straplock pin thread and all that jazz. You can get them on ebay for next to nought, if you don't drink beer. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Washers-Swing-Top-Grolsch-Bottle-Spares-12PK-NEW-/330491455275?pt=Home_Brew&hash=item4cf2d3672b By the way, sweet bass you've got there.
23. To quote echoes of the Dingwall Super P Prototype thread, my question is: do we need yet another souped up Jazz Bass configuration copy?
24.
Yes, yes, we get it already.
No no noooo, I meant after the discovery that the 60th anniversary bass will one day worth a small fortune!
