1. Very Nice!! Nearly fell off........ the ship as I read this lol, I was chillin' in my cabin after a long and difficult channel crossing, that bass is cool but I've never heard of the vendor. Time to go to sleep now, damn that bass looks nice.... zzzZZZzzzz
  2.
In Mexico recently I spotted a guy playing an elderly Jazz with a piece of what appeared to be a piece of upholstery foam underneath the strings near the bridge. I couldn't get close enough to take a proper look or ask the guy about it.. Does anyone know the purpose of this? Rob p.s. My profile says no longer a newbie but that's bollocks...
Robbie Shakespear (Sly & Robbie) had a similar piece of foam under his strings when I saw him live in Rome 2001
  3.
That was nothing to do with the comment about the blue theme
No it was when I said that (obviously) without the running adverts from google adsense the front end of the forum runs faster but at the same time I did mention that without the advert the forum would miss out on the google revenues. I still have the scars from the arrowheads lol
  4.
Its strange but the IP Board blue theme is quicker on my PC!
I said that once, I had stones thrown at me and was branded an heretic.
  5.
Dude...what's wrong with dropping an aftermarket pickup in one of these?! They've got good QC, high mass bridges, but are ultimately built to a budget and it's pretty well accepted that the pickups are one area of compromise, and fortunately one that's easily recitifiable. The world is your oyster when it comes to aftermarket pickups, and the changeover would take all of ten minutes. Statutory warranty...hmm yes perhaps but actually if installed competently even that shouldn't be an issue.
Give that man a large pitcher of the good stuff! Well said, cumpa'!
  6. With plenty of friendly sympathy Gareth.... Just shut up and buy the f***ing thing! If you think it's too pink there'll be plenty people willing to buy it off you in a heartbeat. I warn you though, as you are used to nice hefty pickups, the likes of EBMM and Fender original, YOU WILL find the Squier pickups flimsy and lacking body and definition. And that's a fact. Frankly I would recommend you to get the Fiesta Red P over the Jazz, as they do sound better.

Nice top on that bass Dave, doesn't go with your beard
  9. Well I don't want to throw a spanner in the wheels but before you make your mind up I would also advise you to try a Big Al SSS, to my opinion having not tried the game changer, it stands as one of the most versatile basses they do soundwise. Same neck profile as the Stingray.
  10.
Oh Gawd its EBMM all over again
Wigga please! I'd rather ... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fd9CxIlkjpk

  17. Yo' Gareth... always bet on white and put the rest of your cash towards one of these babies http://www.bassdirect.co.uk/bass_guitar_specialists/SJ5_White.html
  18.
And what does that make fanned frets?
As I've said it all comes under the heading of experimenting, i.e. the work of a designer who intends to expolit a different direction from the original, but since we were talking about Fender, and why there are so many copies, this is because the original design provides a platform for others to try new things. However, the question remains, "is there a need to actually improve on a decent Fender?"
  19.
I think the point the OP has missed is that many of these basses may look superficially like Fender, but if you put the two side by side they are significantly different. Many of them have 24 frets as opposed to Fender's 20 and have much smaller bodies as a result. The original rise of the Super J was because Fender fell so far behind the times in regard to better pups, active eq, better bridges etc and that created the market.
I half agree with you in the fact that what we know as Super J's or Super P's are an expansion in terms of modern technology evolved from the main theme, however we have to appreciate that the Super J's represent the intention and not necessarily the need to improve on the Jazz or Precision designs becase when you really look at a decent 60 or 70 Precision or Jazzbass, you realize that the bent bit of tin and one split pickup is all you need to get that killer sound. Fitting badass bridges and hot pickups / preamps / more frets, does not necessarily improve on the greatness of the basic item as intended by Leo, and adding all these aftermarket bits, is often like fitting a roof rack on a Rolls Royce, i.e. uncool
  20.
i'm liking the sound on the sunburst jazz bass.....i'm liking it a lot!! thanks for uploading this clip for me Grand Wazoo!
Trust me I've got the very same one and it's the b0ll0x
  21. Oh not a Dingwall!! They're rubbish! All the frets are wonky and they weigh next to nothing averaging 7-7.5lbs! The pickups are all handmade and they sound too loud even when passive. What on earth possessed you to get one, mate. Are you sick or something? Seriously, well done! Lovely bass!
  22. Well...WHY NOT f.f.s.? I haven't got a problem with that!
  23. Well considering that everything else I own is still currently available to buy back in case of theft or loss this one is the only one that is irreplaceable and the first to be saved in case of fire. My 1986 PRS 4
