1. The 25th HSS is a very nice and versatile bass, I loved mine. To be honest with all the pickup combinations at your disposal you'd find it hard to get a bad sound out f it, both in passive or active mode.Try every pickup solo and it's like having lots of basses in one instrument. My only negative point on the 25th was its weight, mine was 10.8lbs which you'd feel it when you'd be playing a long set standing up, which is a shame because playing it in a sitting position was a real pleasure.
 2. Bravo!
 3.
A trip to Bass Direct is enough to clear anyones GAS.......and wallet!
Yeah I know but that place is well out of reach, last time I got there I had a puncture too and to find a tyre replacing garage was strangley very hard. Funny part of the world grrr
 4. Ask Gavin at musicman.org he is the "MusicMan" historian and knows a heck of a lot and he is also a moderator on the EBMM forum all around nice chap. This is his website: http://www.musicmanbass.org/ His username in the EBMM forum is Rod Trussbroken. I have a feeling if yours is a 2008 that it might be a ceramic one. If I remember rightly they went back to AlNiCo in 2009, but I might be mistaken it's has been a long time since I had a Stingray 5 mine was a 2000 model and did come with a ceramic one, which I changed with the excellent Seymour Duncan AlNiCo SMB5A
 5.
It's actually quite tricky to do without a large enough caliper because of the tapering...but at the neck joint lower cutaway where it's easiest to get a ruler in, it measures between 41 and 42mm. This is within a mm or 2 of my MIJ 75. The back profile is flat either side of the centreline for a total width of between 11 and 12 cm, before falling off quite sharply on the wings. The front has a more gradual contour that appears to start closer to the centre, maybe 6-7 cm around the centreline is flat at the bridge end. I can't tell if the radius is compound along the length the body but looks like it might be a bit. The body contours at their furthest (thinnest) edges from the centreline are just ~17mm thick, the horns at their furthest are ~27mm. It's a very comfy body shape to play except it could still do with the forearm contouring of a standard jazz. Hope that helps!
It certainly does, I'll pass it on word by word, thanks for your contribution!
 6.
The aerodyne's not any thinner than a normal jazz in the centre (I just checked), it just tapers off outside the line of the neck. And mine is certainly nice and resonant.
can you measure the thickness in the centre please cause Sheldon asked for it but I didn't have a clue. Thanks

 8. If you have a grand I recommend a new American Standard Jazz Bass, it's got the funk built in! Here's a couple of vides showcasing this bass http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O8xozvFWEqg http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AlgiEzf-eqU
 9. Cosmo Valdemar, I must thank you for posting that video, you know I was 13 back when the "Time and a Word" almbun was released, never saw that video, to this day I didn't know there was a video, still... that record was on my turntable on repeat for hours and it was a wonderful time of my life, we were very happy and carefree, and just listening to that song has cheered me up no end. I have to admit that bassline was an inspiration and one of the deciding factors that made me want to learn to play bass instead of a 6 strings, specially since everyone else wanted to be Jimi Page, Eric Clapton or even Hendrix back then, I wanted to be a Chris Squier, a Jack Bruce or a Greg Lake. I think a lot of us from that generation might well agree that sadly they don't do music like that anymore. Cheers for that.
 10. Tort would look awesome...
 11.
When we are talking Dingwall P...is it the 51 slab style P bass body (probably minus slab) or the more modern standard P bass shape? I highly suggest getting a J at the bridge w/sunburst + tort! Classic P bass with a twist, although your J is almost the same pickup arrangement. As much as I cant see myself using a Dingwall, I must admit his work is incredible.
Sheldon is in the process of designing a P bass for Dave Swift of "Later with Jools Holland", its no secret and its all documented here on the Dingwall website, http://www.dingwallguitars.com/community/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=2139 The idea is for 60's style p not the telecaster slab body with a Split P in the neck position and a J style in the bridge, at the moment they are debating whether to have it solid body or chambered like the Super J, Shledon said he wants to maintain a low weight and to achieve this either he makes it chambered or keeps the body thin, but not Aerodyne thin just something in between. I believe the chambered option will prevail. Also they are debating about the scale length but you can read more in that thread. Cheers
 12.
Just checked your profile, GW, to discover you were born in '61. So how about a Y-O-B Fender P, like this one, but hopefully at a lower price point: http://www.ebay.com/itm/1961-Fender-Precision-Bass-Sunburst-/370538184521
Cheers Clarky but I've never seen a 61 P bass again that would awesome if there was one going Thanks
 13.
I think Charics idea of doing a 1 to 1 course is the best so far, you already have some great basses (and some Dingwalls ) but to have something made by yourself that no one else can buy might be more satisfying than you think. As someone who tinkers with old cars the young lad that has rebuilt a land rover or similar using his pocket money and bare hands always looks happier with himself than a guy that's just either bought or commissioned a restored Jag or Porsche in all the car mags.
Nice idea but... Does he come to do these 1 to 1 on ships without being sea sick? I'd love to but I don't have that much time ashore but thanks for the suggestion
 14. This captain is tee total, I'm afraid
 15.
Buy a few of them in different colours & use them as novelty bog seats in your new home.
naughty naughty...
 16.
Gus. Edit for pic.
Yes them ones!! what do they retail at for a 5'er with all bells and whistles? Yeah like this but in a 5 strings!
 17.
...you should give money to poor people, your family and charities and stuff
I have already given a large sum to my son who is wheelchairbound due to cerebral palsy, and because of this I have donated to Scope (The Cerebral Palsy Charity) throughout his whole life, from the date he was diagnosed in 1994. Thankfully my son only disability is the fact that he can't walk however he is a normal 18 years old and now he has just started universtity and doing well. My gf passed away on June 16th this year, I have no other family except for my gf's daughters which are now living with their natural father. I have cleared all my outstanding in the space of yesterday and this morning, except a small mortgage to pay and the utilities, what I have left from this windfall could be invested but with the current interest that banks and building societies are paying is not worth bothering. I have 2 private pension schemes and one from my employer, it's time I enjoy myself for once. You only live once and can't take it with you to the other side.
 18. There is a bass I fancy, can't remember the name, half carbon half wood body with metal top and lower horns... what are they called? they look pukka
 19.
I hear S&T have a nice White HH 'ray with matching headstock the would part company with
QUALITY!!!! HAHAHA I've pissed my boxers!
 20.
But seriously, buy a nice vintage pre-CBS Fender as prices have likely come down and enjoy playing it at home (you have enough gigging basses) and long-term price appreciation too

Buy a Dingwall because that's what you're ultimately going to end up with, after all, you don't want to end up with is unusable in comparison.
Clarky I'm hoping to find a good one on 38th street in NYC actually I did consider what you are suggesting, thanks for the pointer. EBS_freak there is already a new Dingwall p bass in the works but it will be sometime before it will be fully tested and ready for production. Also EBS_freak I don't just own Dingwalls there's Fenders and PRS's in my fleet which I also consider irreplaceable lets not generalise ok?
 21.
You could get someone like Shuker to sort all the frets on your other ones first GW?
haha
 22. An unexpected windfall has put me in a very comfy financial position. It's time I start living a bit of a more relaxed life, first a trip to the US around xmas, then rent somewhere to live, while I knock down and rebuild my house the way I want it, and then I'll be spoilt for choice as to what bass / amp I could buy next! I wouldn't just waste money on silly boutique stuff just because cash is available, I just wonder what might be the next best thing that sensible money can buy, say 3-4K for a bass and 2K for a nice rig. Suggestions welcome. Hey maybe I should get a Bongo.... ?? haha. just kidding
 23. For me the best colour in the Ric series is this one... what's it called azureglo?
 24.
Okaaay now you've got that out of your system ie accusing me of taking "cheap shots"
I don't think he was accusing you, he is barely pointing out that there are 2 sides to every coin. I.e. me being the illusive coin lol Let's all cheer for Gareth who finally got the problem sorted with S&T / BM etc etc... drinks are on me.
 25. I've had both the Lake Placid and the Butterscotch, great fun basses, very light in weight too, gorgeous necks to play. Congratulation on a very good choice of bass.
