Surely someone nearby has a cheapo you can borrow?
The problem is that even if there was, the only room I have left to live in is my bedroom (see pic below) and it's crammed with stuff that couldn't be boxed up and stored outside in the garden so having even a cheap bass would not be any help. I can't swing a cat in there!! Thanks for the suggestion anyway.
So we expect to see your collection in the for sale soon when they start hitting you for all the extras
Well no that won't happen, I have sufficient funds for these works and some...

Bass withdrawal sympthoms is kicking in now... it's been a week now and the workmen have been extremely busy, it's a small house and 9 blokes working all at once are doing some pretty fast progress, my son's room is done already just waiting on the new furniture, the living room also nearly done, the bathroom on the knocking whereas the kitchen has just been tiled and next week all the new cupboards and new appliances will be fitted. As soon as the living room is done I will be moved out of my bedroom temporarily and then they can start working on it. But all is going according to schedule except the bad wheather is slowing down the garden works. The new shed which is huge has been delivered all flat packed and stored on the back of the house wating to be built. I really miss my basses.

'Nuff men dead for less than that where I come from... Lesson learnt, Dave? Never trust anyone, never take any chance again with an open case and a prized instrument such as yours.
Wowzers. That is a piece of art. I'd opt for a much darker maple, but more than likely rosewood, when it comes to the board. What a pretty bass.
Gareth not much different from mine (which you dissed the look of it when you first saw it... tut tut...)

It can be done but once you do it you will be faced with another issue, gauge wise, you need to appreciate that the heavier the string the flappier, a 33" scale is not that far away from a standard 34" scale so that would not be much of an issue, I would suggest you experiment with a 65/85/100/125 gauge. I have seen it done before, and 10 out of 10 blokes love the low end but 9 out of 10 hate the fact that the 1st G is missing and end up going back to normal, which is the issue I was referring when I started to reply. To be entirely honest if you want a low B your best bet is a 5 strings bass because to most of us missing that G string is like missing a limb.
Polish !! Well I hope you got some Irish mick's to do the tarmac at least ..... Can you keep one in work ? Don't tell me there is no space I have seen the size of the boat :-) Hey are you back to work yet ?
No Dave no work for me for a while, I have a district nurse that has to change my dressing 3 times a week so I have to stay ashore. Hey I am not missing it, I tell ya!

Mark please note that the Payson string do not come in the shorter 35" scale, and that is straight from Payson himself, so far he is only building 37" scale ones because he said he hasn't had much demand for the shorter scale ones so for the time being he is only offering them in the 37" scale.
Do you want to borrow an acoustic bas for the duration?? send me a PM..
Thanks for the offer but I really think I won't have the time or the room to store it, after all nearly all the rooms will be worked together. Cheers
Eh? You married? couldn't you store you wife away instead? Basses are better company so...... prioritise man!!!! seriously, I can't understand why you can't have your bass. you have a bed? the bass goes under. BTW, obviously, my marriage ended.
My partner died June 16th 2011 I miss her immensely and one of the reasons I am redoing the house is because the way it was brings back too much painful memories to the point where I am finding it uncomfortable to live in it. I need it to look entirely different not to be daunted with the images in my head where my girl would be sitting watching tv or reading her mags, the old kitchen where she would be cooking etc etc.
A month for that lot ? I will keep my fingers crossed. Anyway if i were you id buy a cheap secondhand bass and small practice amp, that you can keep in a cupboard. Then sell them again afterwards.
Well yes its a team of 9 of them including chippie, plumber and fitters they work 3 rooms at the time while 2 of them are doing the kitchen two other will be doing the living room and bedroom and another team works in the garden. All tried and tested these are fast, they've done my son's house in nearly the same time only his garden is much smaller and only needed levelling and re-turfing, so yeah finger crossed.

As from Monday, a team of finely skilled Polish and Hungarian chippies will begin works to fully gut out my house and redecorate to modern style. Gone will be carpets, wall papers, old kitchen / bathrooms to be replaced with real wood flooring, freshly painted walls, new fitted kitchen and bathroom, and the whole of the 120ft garden will be relandscaped and a new big f/off shed will be built at the end of it big enough for a 4 piece band rehearsal with heating and lecky included. The only negative thing is that everything of value is now in a Big Yellow Warehouse in storage, including all my basses, amps, TV and Stereo everything else will be kept under tarpauling in the garden until the place is finished. All I have left is a small tv and laptop / ipad, I am bored already I miss my basses and the lack of that Dingwall low B is causing me withdrawal symptoms! Oh and the cat is off again to a cattery for the entire period. I need me a hobby! I am not good at twisting my thumbs. Help?

They are widely available from Guitar Guitar http://www.guitarguitar.co.uk/search.asp?search=Sandberg&submit.x=0&submit.y=0

To begin with, there is a substantial noticable difference in low frequency power and delivery thorugh your amp between an open E and the same note fretted on the 5th fret of the Low B string. In essence lower notes fretted on the B strings will sound more defined and will allow you to add a lot of your left hand touch technique skills such as fret muting, vibrato, stretch, pull / stop etc. And that is the sound difference alone, however there are even more benefits by using a low B strings when it comes to ease of playing, speed and dexterity. With a low B, if you are playing a riff on the middle of the neck and you need to fret an F which you would normally find on the 1st fret of your E string, now you don't need to travel back that far up the neck you just fret the 6th fret on the low B and that's about the size of it. You get less tired and your left hand aerobics are kept in a more confined area. The transition between 4 and 5 strings becomes one of the easiest ones you'll ever have to face once you figure out the "boxes" where all your notes are and once you get used to it, you will love the convenience of doing 2 octave scales in near enough one position and the fact that your hand will spend more time in one position means that you will be able to play faster and cleaner without unwanted sliding fret noise and mock/fretted strings as a result of a jump from fret 1 to 8 or similar. A lot of people who get used to 5 strings basses will never want to get back to a 4 strings. I would suggest you either borrow one from a friend for a week to get used to or buy one that you can return for a full refund should you realize that after all a 5 string bass is not for you. As you know with everything it's horses for courses and what might suit me might not be your thing and viceversa.
Why oh why oh why is the pick guard a rip off shape of the Fender version. Have people got no imagination? For heavens sake - if you are a bass maker, show some originality.
The pickguard has been debated over the Dingwall forum before what you see as the finished article. Please let me remind you that what you saw could be pretty much the making of a possible Dave Swift's signature bass, all the features you see down to the John East P Retro preamp are Dave Swift's personal choices and his request to keep the look of the bass as close as possible to that of Fender P minus the fanned frets the bridge and pickup. However the Dingwall Super P bass "per se" it is still a prototype, hence the features are still subject to change before the final design is approved by Sheldon Dingwall. My wish would be for everyone to stop dissing what is not yet cast in stone. I am sure Mr. Sheldon Dingwall himself will tell you that it is still work in progress. Having recently spoken to Dave Swift I have asked him his thoughts about this new bass and he was over the moon about it, he said he's very pleased with it, he said he is pretty much old school when it comes to bass sounds and this new Dingwall seems to be right up his street.

All I can say, well done for not falling into a trap and buy a moody bass.

Don't despair!! Not all is lost. Infact I can guarantee you, that if you use this product as I have been for years, you will be able to restore your nice shiny lacquer to showroom condition. Everyone who has seen my basses will tell you that even my oldest one (the '86 PRS) looks brand new. You can buy this product on ebay at this link http://www.ebay.co.u...=item336f7a3068 and you can read all about it and see videos of it in action on the manufacturer's website link here: http://www.guitarscratchremover.com/ Trust me it really works! -
Squire Classic Vibe 50's Precision - Opinions?
My only beef, as I play mainly fingerstyle, is the lack of anything to anchor my thumb to - the SC pickup is pretty small and the edge of the pickup is close to the E string, otherwise a very nice bass.
There's plenty of room to screw down a thumb rest, so not really big deal, but you can easily do without that if you use the edge of the pickup when playing the E string and the E string when playing the other 3, forced adaptation is a natural process. If you don't think of it as an hinderance you'll master it in no time. -
I swear by the American Standard series basses, best price for them is a grand at Guitar Guitar (taking advantage of the Fender discount promotion)
