2. okeeedokeee then...
3. Having seen the other post I don't think Wayne is really intersted anyway, so I doubt if this will ever happen. Closed case.
4.
Just out of curiosity - a question for the fanned fret players out there, and I apologise if it is slightly off topic. I've been pondering for a while about what happens to the pitch of a note when you bend a string (yes - this would be more applicable to a guitar than a bass) I mean is there a point up at the dusty end where the fanning is most extreme, where by bending a string down, and therefore effectively lengthening the scale, you can lower the pitch? Conversely I suppose by bending up you might be able to achieve some fairly extreme pitch shifts. Or am I talking complete nonsense? Just wonderin'
What happens on a parallel fretted bass happens exactly the same on a fanned fretted one, either way you bend a string will always alter the pitch and not lower it, to achieve a dropped tone you can start to hit the note with the string already stretched (bent) to the desired pitch say a whole or half step up (2 frets or 1 fret, capish?) then bends it back to normal for the dropped tone effect but as long as you keep within the two frets the fact that these are slanted doesn't make a blind bit of difference as opposed to a standard bass or geetar.
5. I have 3 of them, but still keep my traditional parallel fretted basses as in my signature pic. To be honest before Dingwall for me it was EB Music Man all the way, and yes I have sold them all but not because it was a complete u-turn, forget the fanned fret thing, to me at least, the sound capabilities of the Dingwalls made me feel unsatisfied when playing my Ernie Ball basses (Stingray 5 / Big Al 5 / Bongo 5 & 25th Anniv. 5) as they all sounded like indonesian cheap copies in comparison and I am not kidding, the Low B alone and the perfect pitch throughout the entire length of the scale is what makes all the difference, the fan fret is something you never think twice about it if I was to hand one to you to play a whole gig, you will never feel out of place and my good friend swansbrook (Dave) did just that. From never having played one before to play a whole gig with one of mine on loan. Ask him if he even noticed the fret were wonky
6. Still waiting on waynepunkdude to come and try them.
7. If the price is right I wouldn't let that go out of my sight, it is a great looking bass, MIJ is also reknown for quality and attention to details in terms of manufacturing, I have had a play on one of these about 4 years ago, and it played and sounded great, though I must admit to you, expect a heavy bass as the one I tried felt like a 11lb'er to me.
8. Go for Seymour Duncan's antiquity II, they are the best representation of the classic 60's jazz bass sound I've ever heard. 9.
Cheers for that GW. That is a bummer. I've always had good dealings with Paolo there. Helpful guy - even called me up out of the blue just to see how i was getting on with my gear and if I was still happy with it.
Exactly! that was my experience, I even got a call from Paolo when the new Randy Jackson head was in for me to go and try.
10. Gareth you and your bad luck! You seem to have a sad story about ANY brand you've ever bought, are you jinxed? haha! I kind of figure you as the Victor Meldrew of bass! (affectionately though) I see you opening a new bass and going "I don't belieeeeeeeve it!" lol
11.
Hmm, wonder what the reason for this is
I don't know but personally I find it a bummer, I had befriended those folks at Proel (mainly thanks to the fact that they were nearly all Italians, as I am, we immediately connected, we talked about our good weather, the food, the women and the real football played back home) to the point where I could call them up and go to their warehouse and try all the new Mark Bass stuff at my leisure, didn't even need to carry a bass along cause they (Proel) also distribute those excellent MTD basses. So yeah quite a shame I used to be able to try amps in a soundproof envornment which is something you can't do anymore in a music shop these days for a number of reason, A) often they haven't got rooms for you to test stuff and B.) when they let you try something on the shop floor there's always distractions from kids doing their slap/pull workout and the pressure from the salesman "are you considering taking this home today, Sir" Gutted
12. Heads up for you all. I just found out this by chance at the last London Bass guitar show in Olympia that Mark Bass have changed their UK Distributors and Support Centre. Previously it used to be Proel International now is this lot: So if you have any warranty issues or require assistance please note Proel does not support Mark Bass anymore but these people do. 13. They are cheap because they are made in Korea, there you go another good company moving production to the far east http://www.notreble.com/buzz/2012/03/18/sandberg-introduces-electra-vs-4-bass-at-musikmesse/ ..."While the wood, routing, and varnish processes take place in Korea to keep prices down, the bass is assembled and checked for quality control at the company’s headquarters in Germany"...
14. £650-£700 tops depending on conditions, a couple of pics to get an idea would help.
15. You just know it, don't you? Well at least I do, soon as I see the Daffodils come out, it means springtime is here and when that season starts you need to carry out a little maintenance on you basses, as temperature changes your action gets a little higher as the wood warms up and changes shape. Mind you not all basses do that, I find those with laminate or fixed (glued in) necks tends to stay pretty much the same the whole year around but its your Fenders and Squiers and similar ones, generally those with one piece maple necks that do it. The great thing is that it only takes a quarter turn on your trussrod and you're good to go again. Still, it catches me out every year that from one week to the next I suddenly find the action getting higher and I wonder wtf? when I never touched the settings then I remember... oh yeah "Spring is here"
16. HAHAHA!!! Nice one!
17.
Sweeeeettttttttttttttttt! The ladies getting some fresh air! What exactly is the seafoam bass?
It's a 1986 all original Paul Reed Smith Bass 4 featuring 3 single coil pickups with a dummy hum cancelling coil fitted at the back of the body behind the bridge. Active / Passive with a 5 position rotary switch selecting 5 most used combinations from P Bass to J Bass to a very similar Gibson EBO when the neck pickup is soloed to a very uncanny stinkray with the middle and bridge pickups both on, thrown in the bargain. The preamp controls are Deep and Clear representing low and high apart from that it weighs next to nought (7lbs. something) although it looks like a small scale compared to the basses next to it, it's just that the body is small the shape of which was taken from their guitars but it's a full 34" scale and the neck is modelled on a P bass also to note is that the neck is made out of Brazilian maple which is now banned and illegal for luthier to use while the body is again south american Ash. There's an exact same one going on ebay for silly money as you can see on this link: http://www.ebay.co.u...=item279d5e4036
