Thank you all for your appreciation and suggestions. I will take them on board, and possibly organise another meetup for the beginning of September - bearing in mind that the South East Bash happens around the end of that month too, IIRC? We'll wait for them to confirm their date, and we'll take it from there. Suggestions for interim mini-meetups and drinks - perhaps at gigs, etc. - also welcome, if anybody has any.
Blue... may I suggest an interim meet at someone's place, i.e. bring your own (bass & backing tracks, entertain us in rotation) bring your own drink & food, cook, wash and leave the place as tidy as you've found it? If that will suit most people then I am happy to welcome a decent number of you's, (no more than 10-15) I have a big garden, free parking on my street and very understanding (young) neighbours.

I've deleted my comments because I just realized this is a thread that started in 2008 and mysteriously resurrected , my argument was by this time pointless.

Glad you guys had a great time, hopefully we shall meet on the next one.

Not because of work, but due to my son who needs me to help him at his place in Richmond, I also cannot make this outing, sorry
AAALL right - I went there, admittedly long before rush hour, but there appeared to be rather enough space, and hopefully the situation will be similar on Saturday around noon. So, for anyone who may be coming from outside London and not be sure where exactly we are meeting up, the place is this (up the staircase): Nearest tube stations Embankment on the north bank and Waterloo on the south bank. Now, you guys tell me where you'd like us to pitch our tents, so to speak, so that I know where to park myself when I arrive there. This is the grassy area to the left of the entrance: And this is the decked seating area (there's more at the bottom of the garden, on the left): (yes, the "vase" in the foreground on the left is a toilet bowl...) There is an area with small wrought iron tables and chairs too: I think we should be able to stay in the garden, and bring some of our own drinks, as long as we also buy a few drinks from their bar. Anyone know otherwise? I decided not to ask
I am on crutches, stairs are my enemy...

Funny things you've heard at a gig/soundcheck?
Grand Wazoo replied to krispn's topic in General Discussion
Talcum Powder!! Yiip! I once had to sub for a band doing a east end gangsters type wedding in Bethnal Green, and after a week of rehersals, on the day of sound check the singer who was a a rockabilly afficionado, asked the soundcheck man to provide him talcum powder so he could slide on stage doing his split and twist motions. I wanted the ground to open up and swallow me whole. -
Sounds just the job, are there tabs included in the book? as I'm not a reader.
My version dates back to 1998 and its got both notes and tabs

Oh man - why didn't they do this last month?
But if you were contemplating fitting a bridge like that, then it's obvious that whatever is on your bass already isn't doing it for you. If everything else about the bass was perfect would you sell it on in the hope that the next was completely right (although it's likely to have at least one thing that you can't get on with) or mod it so it is perfect for you? Personally I think the practice of keeping instruments in their original condition is overrated, if a single mod will make it your perfect bass. I would have no hesitation making a mod to matter how expensive the bass or how irreversible the mod was if it would make an almost perfect bass completely right for me.
Agreed, if we are talking about a "build" or "bitsa" per se then of course it's not a case of butchering a quality instrument for the sake of fitting an aftermarket gimmick, so I would be ok with that, but even having said that, let's face it: there is chunky, and there is mastodontic and that Warmoth bridge it's lke sailing with the anchor dragging on the sea bed, it's huge and unsightly, a Badass is the limit I'd go to but not that size, it's like a blooming crane counterweight! -

Grand Wazoo replied to Twigman's topic in General Discussion
Das ist eine Schade. Seriously though, how do you expect to get a bridge on? It doesn't just sit on there, y'know
Meaning I wouldn't do any additional routing only to devalue a priced instrument, and I always think of resale price of instruments which once they have been butchered they loose their originality and that fancy bridge might not be everyone's cup of tea hence halving my chances of reselling the instrument. -
