1. JHS make a fretless road worn badged as Vintage as the company logo as you can see in the link below: http://www.jhs.co.uk/vintagebass.html
2. Nice bass..... so what manly colour are you going to spray it?
3. The new combo features a completely rev"amp"ed enclosure and there are quite a few differences between the new and the old combo. The new one now features a balanced XLR line out to a PA or mixer, a tweeter on / off switch and a limiter switch. However it loses the mute switch and the 6 bands graphic eq, the "Vibe" knob has been replaced by another knob called "Phat" perhaps that is the same thing with a different name. Also the power has been downsized from 500W to 300W. Personally, while I love the shape of the new combo design, I still prefer the fact that the previous model has the graphic eq and the mute switch, and I can't see what use would be to have a limiter on such a small speaker enclosure, and as far as I am concerned I never needed to have the tweeter off. But I guess more demanding people have been asking for that feature for sometime. here is the link to the official Ibanez website http://www.ibanez.co...=5&series_id=41 P.S.: Thomann sells it for £293.19 delivered free! 4.
Had to cancel last minute this year but I have just stuck it in my diary for next year. I have a gig on the Friday but the rest of the weekend is clear ! Going to keep it that way and finally make it over to the show.
And as you know Dave you have accomodation sorted for the whole weekend chez moi.
5. BlueJay, I trust you with your socializing skills, but do you think that this year we could organize an official BC get together at the show as the previous 2 years have been a complete shumble (f*ck up) ?? I only met Ped last year and I then learnt that at least 50 BC'ers were there on the day either Sat or Sun. What do you say BJ can you pull this off.... ( no! not this! get your hands off...lol ) I mean the get together
6. They are more than good, they are proper, perfect, they've got it right with the American Standard series, great necks, decent pickups, fantastic hi-mass bridge with the option of top load or string through, and I've even experimented with 2 strings through and two top loaded with interesting results (E & A through for that deep low end and D & G top loaded for sparkling highs) And as you can see in my signature pic I was so impressed with them I've got one of each P and J, pukka!
7. Agreed and you can't just have the one, you've got to get both! As I did 2011 American Standard P and J in the exact same colour and fretboards

Slow?

Ped you've got a very nice forum, I give you that. However it's so slow to run from whatever platform / device / ip that it's becoming painfull to partecipate. Can anything be done to speed it up??

10.
Cheers Fran. Seen it, and the others, even the German one . Now stop tempting me and make me see sense (and no, that doesn't mean the Sandberg lol).
You're going to need one of each of these to see sense, and you still might miss it! 11. Yo Dave, check it out http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mWedcQx66fs
12. Someone's got Geee Aaaye Sssss!
13. I am going to be controversial here: you are never going to sound or play like Jaco, he was a one off player, unique and unimitable, even if you owned his very bass and amp you still wouldn't sound like him, in fact no one ever will. I've heard many pro players trying to imitate the sound, none got close to Jaco style of phrasing, harmonizing and soloing. If you are seeking to get the closest bass possible to the one he owned just as a collector item, then it would be a different matter. Sorry for the interruption, continue on.....
14. I fitted mine on July 19th 2012 and they are still 90% fresh, you must have got a duff set or you are a very sweathy smelly person lol no offence, just kidding, send them back for a replacement / refund.
15. So that means these Lakland basses have longer scales then. let me google them ..... (be right back) ... later that evening..... Right... it is a 35" scale jobbie, so that's why the strings become short if you feed them through the body, so your only alternative is to string the E and the B top loaded instead of through the body. Either that or go for some DR strings which cater for longer scales but not in cobalt. (you'll pay about the same for the priviledge)
16. Is your Lakland a 35" scale neck or greater? It could be that by the time the strings have extended all the way to the back of the body and the extra neck scale length (provided it is a 35" scale) could be the reason for it, I couldn't explain it otherwise, I actually have Ernie Ball cobalts on my American Standard Fende P Bass which are fed similarly trough the body past the bridge but with the bass being a 34" scale there is plenty of string to go round the post before it starts to taper down, and you know what? I am pretty sure that the cobalt are only offered in long scale they do all the gauges under the sun but I think the string length you get is one for all types of basses. Worst case scenario, fit them normally from the top of the bridge.
17. Ok then Gareth I thought you were addressing it at Sandberg, as for Thomann also I have to defend them as they have a switchboard for customer service which if you call from UK it is answered immediately in English, I guess they can tell on their phone screen by the dialing code of the caller, so they reply in English, when I bought my Promethean amp from them, it came with an European cattle lead type and I told them look you knew I was in UK when I bought it, how come you sent me the european lead, they said no worries we will have one sent to you in the next 3 days and it did come on time.
18. The moral of the story always remains: don't knock it til you try it! The way I see, you started this thread declaring the following: Sandberg Basses... "I think I've caught the bug on these" ... Then when we all chipped in with our individual experience with them (personally I only tried a few but other people who actually own them gave you some extremely positive review points on them) and yet you've managed to dig around for negative points and horror stories, regardless of the positive comments, and... what I don't understand is if you had heard about those horror stories before you started the thread then why styarting a thread saying you've caught the bug on them, it's inconsistent, ain't it? Bah... ?
19.
Im a bit worried about their customer service to be honest...only because of a few horror stories.
But... but... but... if I remember rightly, it was YOU that told us HORRIBLE STORIES in the past related to your SHOCKING experience with EBMM basses, what with your new bass received with a neck swapped from another one from Strings and Things, and the other one with the neck pocket out of line and I am sure there were more I can't remember right now. Oh and previously what about your other negative experience with Bass Merchant in Colchester, with basses ordered and paid and never received? I tell you Gareth we've read about more [sub]horrible[/sub] [sup]stories[/sup] from you than from headlines in the News on Sunday or The Sun
20. Gareth they are really nice basses, I have not picked one up that I didn't like, put it that way. Guitar Guitar in Epsom has had most of the model in stock and the one I preferred the most was the road worn 4 string California PM (which has a P bass style pickup in the front and a musicman type humbucker at the bridge, they have Delano pickups which are well beefy and to top it up the icing of the cake is a Glockenklang preamp with a push / pull volume knob that goes active / passive. See the exact model here: http://www.guitargui...=07032616312028 Now I was about to pull the trigger on one of them but I decided at the time to stay traditional and get the Fender American Standard Precision instead, purely because I don't really need the musicman vibe sound and it was a lot more expensive to justify the purchase, the Fender Am / St was £950 while the Sandberg was £1450 at the time and now its £1499. The same configuration is also offered in non road worn with new paintwork and all but... what Sandberg has just brought out is much cheaper new line (perhaps made in the Far East) of very traditional P copies with just a single P style pickup which Or Lubianer made a fantastic demo of it on youtube, oh and they're only £599!! Check them out on this link and also watch the video with Or playing it. 24.
Although that may have been inevitable at the time, I really hope that, now and in the future, an ever-increasing number of lefties will choose to play the correct type of guitar/bass, as that will allow the market to grow and lower prices and increase the availability of models. Having been taught to write with the "wrong" hand (my right) by mistake, and having hated the results for the whole of my life, I simply could not have forced myself to do the same on bass, and would not wish that on any other lefty, TBH...
Bluejay, that is nothing compared to what happened to me when I was a kiddy, I am a left handed who writes with his left, and does pretty much anything else left handed except playing bass and guitar. As back then in those days, no music teacher would want to deal with me unless I played right handed, hence why that is the only thing I have had to adjust to, i.e. playing right... But that's nothing, I was born 1961, when mother took me to my first day of primary school in Italy around 1966, the primary school was run by nuns. Soon as they realized I was a lefty, they said oh no no, we can't let you write with the hand of the devil, you need to start properly with your right hand and they tied my left arm behind my back with a small rope, at the age 5 you can imagine the shock when my mom found out, she complained to the school headmaster but they wouldn't give a crap, so she took me out of the catholic primery and into a private non religious one. I was then allowed to write with my left and do pretty much everything else. My first sport was fencing, it turned out that being left handed was an advantage for fencing, because of all the defense tactics were designed for right hand and so when I used to compete, my opponent would not be prepared to fend the sword when the attack was coming from his / hers left hand. To this day I regret that I did not persevered to learn bass and guitar left handed because I definately have more picking rhythm in my left than in my right, if I am strumming with the left I have much better tempo than I have with my right but I have been playing since I was 11 so that's 40 years now, my timing it's better but not perfect or indeed natural. There are black holes in my execution which I manage to overcome by not playing intrinsecately fast stuff as otherwise I am off beat. Dang, what can I do, now it's too late to switch over.
25.
Lovely basses. Does he build exclusively left-handed models or is this his dedicated lefty website? Either case, kudos to him.
Here's your answer honey... http://home.online.nl/blablas/bass/history.html
