1. I've mentioned this in another thread go to your local hardware store and get two or four small rubbber grommets they are used in plumming don't ask me in what application, and put the screw through them, they are better than springs
2. That is very nice! Like the see-through guard.
3. if the price isn't too silly I have been contemplating it for sometime.
4.
Dear Mr Wazoo. If you invest in one of these, can i buy your old one? BSB
Thanks my friend, but the old one is too dear to me, and I'd never let it go. Cheers. I'm not the only one who likes it, this chap also loved it and he is normally not a fan of basses with more than one pickup

6. Some very nice basses on display in this thread.
7. Every Warwick I've tried, I've disliked the feel of them. No idea why. But they've always been a no no for me.
8.
I'm on the hunt for an Ibanez SR4005E Prestige to try, has anyone seen one anywhere?
Guitar Guitar in Epsom had a few, I'd give them a call to check http://www.guitargui...=12040516440349
9. A word of warning... the Artist, i.e. the one without the scratches, has a pau ferro fingerboard, people often refer to this wood as "marmite" some people like it other loathe it! My personal experience with this pau ferro staff, is that it doesn't sound like rosewood and it's supposed to sound like ebony but to me it doesn't either, and worst of all it felt odd with roundwound strings as if the two materials opposed each other. A bit mushy sounding (had it on a fretless Stinkray) and quite frankly ended up hating the stuff. The road worn one, on the other end i.e. custom relic has a rosewood with epoxy coating, because that's what JP did to his own bass after he defretted it. Never tried one of those so I can't comment but make sure you try this pau ferro stuff before you buy, as like me you might not like how it feels specially with roundwound strings for some reasons.
10.
As it says in my original post i'm only interested in the Artist, Tribute and Custom Shop 'Jaco Pastorius' basses and really the confusion of the different models produced by Fender. I'm familiar with the Squiers, CIJ Fenders, Tokai, Greco, Edwards and Fernandes etc versions of the sunburst lined fretless basses thanks.
Look except for the man who referred you to do a google search we are all trying our best to be friendly and help you with tips and searches, beggers can't be choosers so don't get too cocky pal! Now then.... if it the Artist model that you fancy, i.e. the one that is not road worn here is a very good condish 2nd hand for you http://www.thebassga...=2424&type=Bass Guitar
11. I think I've realized the "Relic" conundrum, yet another of Fender marketing ways of putting different ingredients by way of attributes to sell the same soup. Bass Direct in Warwich have a 2nd hand "Custom Shop" for sale at the price of £2600 instead of nearly 3.5 grand for a new one, right? oooook now... if you see one of the pics here http://www.bassdirect.co.uk/bass_guitar_specialists/Fender_Jazz_Jaco_Pastorius_CS.html The so called "Certificate of Autenticty" card from Fender actually calls it a "Relic" so that means, Custom Shop, Tribute and Relic are all the same thing! And therefore there are only 2 official variants one being the Artist, which is just a fretless Jazz without pickguard with all the paintwork nice and intact, and the other one is the same one but they stuck it on the back of a truck and drag it through their car park a few times i.e. road worn. pffft.
12. Another sad loss for the bass world http://www.notreble.com/buzz/2013/04/07/in-memoriam-neil-smith/
13. I would look at the nut, first question is it one of those compensated one, where every slot is cut at a different length? Either way, get a large builder's pencil, and rub some of the pencil led in every slot. try lots of it then wipe away the excess led dust, restring and try again. Second thing I'd like you to check is to make sure all the 5 neck fixing screws are taught, don't over tighten them but do make sure they are screwed in properly and I will also check if the bridge fixing screws are tight. Finally check that the big nuts on the machine head are taught and if all is tightened properly and you still get strings going out of tune THEN change the strings and try again and finally if that fails too, give S&T a call and tell them about this issue they ought to want to see the bass and have it checked by one of their qualified tech. Strings & Things are here: http://www.musicmanuk.co.uk/ You can email them at "][email protected]
14. I come to realize, we as in all of us here, are soooooooooo divided. One man's poison aye?
15. This is a difficult one to be honest because Fender confused everyone including themselves, first they made the Artist one and then, suddenly somewhere the "Bass of Doom" turned up and Fender bodged a copy of it and made it a Custom Shop also known as the "Tribute" so these two are the same one, don't get confused. As far as I remember that was the chronologic succession. However somewhere in the US a "Relic" model appeared which is not listed on the Fender official website and it is advertised on Musician's Friend online store. It would be interesting to ask them about it cause if you see the links and pics it does look different than the other 2 official models. F*** knows where they got that from. 16. I tried one and to me it felt cheaper than a Sue Rider and sounded nothing like a Stingray or the original S.U.B. [sub]#bag'o'sh|te[/sub]
17. 1) Talking Heads 2) Double Trouble (With Steve Ray Vaughan) 3) The Blues Brothers 4) Queen 5) Aerosmith
18. Fender Custom Shop, Master built Precision http://www.bassdirect.co.uk/bass_guitar_specialists/Fender_NOS_Precision.html Descriptions: A secondhand limited edition, custom shop, masterbuilt 2010 bass in immaculate condition with no dings or missing finish. 19. I don't see this bass staying in that shop for long, CIJ Fender lovely bit of curly maple top, yummy and he wants £650 for it, which is spot on. Who's going to snatch that? http://www.bassdirect.co.uk/bass_guitar_specialists/Precision_Aerodyne.html
20. A Dingwall Super P offers more than just a tight Low B, it has a thinner lighter body, and, not qa lot of people know this, but all the new producion ones, come pre-routed under the pickguard in case you decided to invert the pickup (in which case you will only need to order a spare pickguard with the precut inverted.). As said above all 5 strings have an accurate even sound output, and so far of all the other Precision fancy copies I've heard this is the only one that really has "the" P sound to a T. 5 strings Fender P's are nice but bulky and heavy like a ship anchor. Mike Lull are fugly and Xotic would be the 2nd best out of the 3 you've mentioned.
21. For me it would be just a one night stand, I couldn't go through a full relationship with that.
22. Agreed, as a Zappa die hard fan, I strongly agree about Scott Thunes, but then Frank was very anal in his choice of musicians and the gruelling auditions he put them through before actually hiring them, Scott was a great bassist but also a complete and utter weirdo, very difficult to get on with and according to Frank who mentioned it in one of his last interviews, Scott was the main reason for the band to start fighting with each other, because no one wanted to play with him and he actually caused other member to want to leave because of his attitude. This is a small description from Frank in regards to Scott Thunes zappa: scott has a unique personality. he also has unique musical skills. I like the way he plays and I like him as a person, but other people don't. he has a very difficult personality: he refuses to be cordial. he won't do small talk. and he's odd. so what? they're all odd! they should tolerate each other. unfortunately the real world doesn't work that way, and I don't want to name who got this thing started, but it turned into a personal vendetta against scott thunes. nov. 1991 Anyway. If ever you happen to be south o' the river give me a shout, I have the whole discography here on CD and can show you some really forgotten jewels that Zappa recorded but not a lot of people have heard. There is a particular song, which was recorded years before the "Does Humour Belong In Music" tour, on an album called "Sleep Dirt" the opening tune of that album is "Filthy Habits" and the band at the time was the crème de la crème : Zappa on guitar, Patrick O'Hearn on bass, Terry Bozzio on drums, George Duke on keyboards, and I find this tune to be very dark and eclectic, in particular the bass line is almost scary to listen to but yet very captivating, check it out, unfortunately is not a live video but just a youtube song http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tEfwhUQ4Wqk
23. It's a mate, don't shoot the messenger, I am helping him get his stuff heard.
24. Please check it out, nice bass work! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=viUMlaQzpwk
