Selling my Colourbox as I now have other transformer based goodness in my signal chain. This has had a full once over from JHS due to a noise issue (which turned out to be caused by a cheap Amazon 9v wall wart) so is as up to date as you can get - they basically dropped in a brand new circuit with all the most up to date revisions so it’s as new. It’s been home use only but has been on a pedal board and used as a DI/recording preamp for some projects. JHS did a great video showing the CB as a preamp for a host of instruments and it’s a great tool for the home studio. There are two transformers, one on each output, so if you want some heft on you instruments you find it within this box. I have a couple of passive LBA transformers which I’m using on my board now instead of this so it’s surplus. Don’t fix it in the box get it right first time with this Neve based preamp! Full spec here: https://www.jhspedals.info/colour-box-v2 Might consider some p/x. Quite fancy a Squier Paranormal bass

I’m not that far away 😉

Id love to try one out beside the Simone preamp as it does that wonderful thing of making the perceived 'bandwidth' open up compared to playing via the amp alone. I love preamps and this Caveman one really appeals but I just couldn't justify one right now unless someone buys my Colourbox v.2 preamp to free up funds!

UA just released a stand alone LA-2A pedal as well 😀

The price comparison to a Stomp is fair but as mentioned how many ‘boutique’, single application pedals are over£200 these days. I had to catch myself the other day looking at the new UA 1176 pedal thinking it was affordable because it’s under £200 then I did a quick wait it’s nearly £200!! I had the old M5 years ago and it’s handy. Phaser for a Lizzy track, tube drive for Clash song, chorus for an intro, fuzz etc you get the idea. In an ‘average set’ in my pub band I can easily get by with no fx but this type of unit makes it a fun tool but it’s up to the player to judge if it sounds better than the many compact multi fx boxes out there or is worth the money. It looks the part!

GuitarGuitar have bumped their delivery date back a week. I’ll pop in and play one when it eventually arrives.

I have the Bass Juice too but set very low gain with just a touch of drive but the tone wide open. What about pairing the TRex with another drive pedal. If you like what it does then gain staging with another box might just be the ticket. My mate has been very impressed with the EBS unit mentioned above and I see one on here for £70

Caveman Audio BP1, a very, very, very short review...
krispn replied to bassmayhem's topic in Amps and Cabs
If you want a killer preamp and you want to spend some dough you have to consider the Simone preamp by Jule Amps. If you can find one to demo you’ll appreciate the quality it brings and it’s versatility. Tubes, great eq, drive and boost. It’s a very complete package (but on fx loop) and I think it surpasses the Noble in terms of what it can do. If it’s a Neve style preamp you’re after, something transformer based, then a Hudson Broadcast or JHS Colourbox v.2 would be a great option. Both do the preamp colour but the JHS has added eq options and transformers on both the di out and the 1/4” signal path. - you can hear what it does - but again no fx loop. I’m selling a Colourbox v.2 btw 😉 -

So good to hear stuff in context. Thanks! -
This is the fuzz I use and it’s really good. Super versatile and I concur it does sound great with an octave. Only I like to change my setting I’d have gone for the compact version but yeah great fuzz unit.

I’m just playing the one main gig so my board is basically comp, preamp and drive. I’ve a couple of drive pedals because I do use fuzz and it’s a dedicated sound and a general purpose drive which I can change on the fly but I’m lucky as it does a more scooped sounding drive and and also sound more mid forward so it’s essentially a 2 in 1 for my needs. Oh and I’ve an eq pedal (it’s quite specific in what it does - a CAL Funkulator) which allows the voice of the clean and drive to change. I can adjust this on the fly too so I can set it lower to tighten up finger style or wind it up for a more pronounced slap scoop sound- something I do switch between during songs in the set too. I see these huge boards and wonder what sound folk are aiming for but in fairness I play in a band where a solid simple bass sound is all that’s needed but in fairness I probably lack the creativity, time and finances to invest in some of the boards I’ve seen here.
