It’s the older one with the recessed knobs. It really is a killer unit but the size can be off putting. I run it off a Fender LvL 8 power brick at 12v 500ma and it works perfectly. I have a valve preamp on my board and some additional Lightening Boy Audio 2020s transformers hidden underneath my board and I’m not really needing the tube stage form the MB comp as I have that tube character already but it’s nice to swap it on and off the board when I feel like it. Aww I might pop it back on this evening now I’m talking about it. I knew this would happen 🤣

I think this this range is 60’s (even though I put the PV 74’s into a 60’s spacing). I believe there is a 70’s version from HB with the blocks and binding but again BTW Gregor is into the 60’s thing.

The neck on the MV series HB range have a nice profile. More D than C so feels more substantial in the hand than a Flea sig (I have both). I put some Fender PV ‘74 pick up’s in my HB and a new loom and it sounds fantastic. (As an aside I’ve never used a 70’s wind jazz set before and they really do add some muscle and add in a more forward midrange. Very impressed by them!) but I think Gregor favours the 60’s wind. Kloppman pick up sets, especially the one Gregor likes, are about £300 per set so this will likely be a great sounding bass but as a one off series it’s probably gonna be spendy for the brand but with good quality hardware. The neck looks like a nice piece of wood and hopefully they’re monitoring the weight to keep them under 4kg.

Going through the spares bag and think I’m happy to let these go… but this may change! Images to follow Funkulator £100 Prefixed eq cut at 800hz for instant slap tones the intensity of the cut increases as you dial up the single knob. At lower settings it can help thicken up finger style and more pronounced the more you dial it in. It can be really useful in adding a second voice to a bass, as a way to eq a drive pedal. I used it to enhance my jazz bass and for a more scooped drive sound think ampeg like tones. There’s a built in buffer too and the pedal can be quite addictive as an always on sweetener box. The magic lies in the ability to maintain the other frequencies as the mid cut increases. It really is a great wee box if a bit niche looking on the surface. It’s a unit I’d be happy to keep and put back on the board if there’s no interest! Basswitch Enhanced OD £125 Boxed I really dig this drive for its versatility and tones. It’s basically two voices in one unit in that the tone control works like a eq curve shift. At one end of the range it sounds ampeg/scoopy and as you turn to the opposite end of the range the eq curve shifts to a mid bump. It’s a very full sounding drive and really fills out the mid-range especially useful in a trio etc. This one’s a bit rare as not many produced before the basswitch guy retired. I have this, their comp and the basswitch iqdi- love their kit and it all sounds wonderful! New Fender Vintera II Roadworn 60's Precision

I saw on a YT review of the guitars that the finish on the neck can very quickly ‘rub off’ so the tacky feel is very much a temporary thing. -
Be interested to know the cost. I’d happily get my flea jazz refin’d to charcoal frost following those new RW basses. Might be cheaper to do that than buy the p bass!!

Aww man don’t be saying things like that. This Charcoal is my absolute favourite p bass colour. I’m thinking of driving over to Glasgow to try one at guitar guitar. I’ve no business tempting myself but I’ve been very impressed with the road worn series having owned an original series jazz RW which I loved but got nicked, a JMJ (twice) and my main bass, a Flea jazz. I’m not usually picky but would love to find a really light one in charcoal 🤞🏼for Glasgow. -

I think it’s a nitro with checking rather than a forced ‘ RW template’ so it’ll get beat up quickly if treated a little rough but has that classic ‘aged nitro lacquer’ look without the beatings. I think Fender has a closet classic finish yrs ago which had that gentle treatment/finish. -
Check down the back of the sofa. Last time I did I found 3 quid in change and a Boss ODB3!

If you were able to dial in a tone on the HX units this will be an absolute breeze. It’s very intuitive and the way the global eq is set up fine tuning the tone is even easier as you can do those nice broad eq change to enhance more subtly or specific notching/cutting to sort out problems in a flash. I just wish I could justify the cost and not feel bad about having my pedal board sitting gathering dust. TL:DR If you can program a HX Stomp you’ll be fine! 😀

Exotic RC Boost maybe - (aRC) which I believe is a TS type circuit?
-
The global eq and ease of access/routing the outputs was a really nice feature I thought. But there’s shouldn’t be hum!

Anagram is super easy to get into and can be edited really quickly over the HX but I’ve no experience of the QC. Anagram is really handy and ‘on the go’ friendly.

Consider it graded exposure 😆 You’re welcome 🙏

Just because… 😆 Need to tidy up the wiring but just wanted to be sure it all sounded good. My standard set up remains much the same. I tap the sound from the Simone DI as below: TU3>4OTF>BSComp>Simone DI>CabM+ all goes to FOH/desk The full board goes to the amp via Simone 1/4” out: TU3>4OTF>BSComp>Simone1/4”>MB Comp>P&P>Funk> Thumpinator >amp 4OTF just as an always on low gain thing taking advantage of the filters. The MB is just acting as a valve stage and not doing any compression worth writing home about (I mean it can but not on this gig iteration). Getting a bit more juice from the 4OTF. P&P doubles as either drive or fuzz depending on the tune and set low gain gets a nice bump from the 4OTF too. Nice to have different drives available to layer. Funkulator just does its thing and adds a nice scoop to the drive sound for added sculpting.
