1. And where´s the arrow going from bassists to guitarists?
 2.
I now spend half my life on this forum and the other on Ebay looking for bargain Precision's, Jazz's, Geddy Lee's, uprated pickup's, SX's ( never even heard of them three months ago )
So what exactly is your problem?
 3. I think it´s very well made, sound, timing, attention to detail, plus the faulty amp thing is hilarious. As someone said in the comments, you actually have to be a rather good player to pull this off.
 4.
Can we see a close up of the head stock as the truss rod end looks unusual for a Jazz unless it is a JB75-100US?
If it were a 75, it would have a bullet truss rod and block inlays. To me, it looks like a legit bottom-of-the-line Jap Standard Jazz exactly like the one on top of the list here.
 5.
It wouldn't break my heart to walk into my spare room and see Wateroftyne's row of sunburst Fenders
You beat me to it. And I´d probably be happy with any of the basses niceguyhomer has owned over the years. Ok, apart from the Bongo. I do have priciples.
 6.
I did about 3 or 4 gigs with the standard pup and it sounded fine. But then the Thumper went in and wow - what a difference. Louder, punchier and brighter with a real 'openness' to the sound.
Cheers for that!
I'll have to take the flats off if I want to gig with it 'cos the others don't like the sound. Sheesh
Oh my. What´s their problem? Too much thump and not enough highs? You could always try a set of D´Addario Chromes for a brighter sound.
 7. Tasty! Nothing beats a P for soul stuff. Did you get to hear the bass before the mods? I´m wondering how much difference better electronics can make in a MIM bass.
 8.
P.S. does anyone know what distortion Stu Zender uses on "Feels Just Like It Should" along with an envelope filter i think ?!?
That´s not Zender, that´s not even a bass. It´s a vocal sample of Jay singing/buzzing/beatboxing with his lips closed.
 9. AFAIK, the difference is in the neck (maple vs. rosewood fretboard). The bodies are identical. In general, Japanese P bodies can be basswood or alder. Alder bodies are used on the basses that come with US pickups. If the body is loaded, look at the bridge: If the saddles are threaded, it´s US/alder, if the saddles are slotted, it´s the (cheaper) basswood version with Japanese pickups.
 10. Top contender for ugliest headstock ever IMHO, and the body´s not much better I´m afraid. I remember DW building a (very) limited series of drums made from timber that had been hauled from the bottom of a lake in North America after maturing down there for a couple of centuries. These were some seriously beautiful instruments...
 11. There´s a vinyl copy of "Glad To Be Here" for sale here: http://www.discogs.com/sell/list?release_id=449683&ev=r2
 12. Bolt-on all the way! It is said that bolt-on necks give a crisper attack. I personally like the idea of being able to replace the neck in case of an accident.
 13. Sterling does it for me. I tried one recently and it almost played itself, soo comfortable. And I prefer the sound to the Stingray. Never played a Bongo though...
 14. It´s funny but I can´t help thinking that a Fender P or J would look great in any of those finishes. Pointless post, I know. Sorry.
 15.
a CIJ vintage white mustang which is my favourite to play of all my basses at the moment
Mmmh... Olympic White... I love my Mustang. It has a very distinct character and is a joy to play. Fender Japan rules! I´m going to record with a blues/folk singer soon and I´ll bring one of my P basses and the Mustang. Should be fun.
 16.
horrible boomyness and stupidly high output
That´s the problem with your G&L? Did you ever try adjusting (lowering) the pickups and/or magnets? The G&L provides the luxury of being able to adjust every single pole piece (using the bridge saddle allen key). Seriously, try it before you lose money selling it. I´ll bet you´ll find the sounds you are looking for. The L-2000 is an incredibly versatile bass if you know how to handle it. The Squier VMJ is nice, but I´d take the G&L any day (and I don´t even like active basses!). Just my two cents...
 17. So what exactly was the list price in 2007? I find it hard to believe that the price really went up 40% (that would mean that the "before" price for the 4003 was USD 1.542,-)...
 18. Now I´m not into that stuff at all, but for a bit of rock´n´roll fun, he did a pretty good job IMHO. I doubt that MA really was pissed at that performance - he would have stumbled and broken his leg jumping around like he did. The JD bottle probably didn´t contain anything other than ice tea. That´s entertainment, folks. They very obviously didn´t take themselves too seriously and neither should we.
 19. Milt Hinton (1910-2000) was still going strong at age 85: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zm8CnIOIzD4
 20.
The Sterling The Lakland DJ and A Mexican P
That´s the perfect mix, if you ask me. A P, a J, a MM - three distinct, classic flavours, all bas(s)es covered. No need to sell anything IMHO. Of course, that´s coming from a guy who has three Ps, a J, a Mustang, a G&L L-2000, an Tony Levin 5-string and Yamaha P/J and J/Js.
 21.
Heh, pm me and we can discuss a deal
Oh, sorry - completely missed your reply. Believe me, it´s so much out of my price range that any offer from my part would be an insult to you and this lovely bass. So have a bump on me and good luck with the sale!
 22. In case you´re still not quite sure yet - tort.
 23.
Victor Wooten clips just makes me giggle a bit. I'd rather watch some Kenny G. Only just, mind you.
Now I´m not a fan of Wooten at all but Kenny G.?!? Nuff said. On topic: There´s plenty of beautiful, un-w*nky solo bass stuff out there IMHO. Just plain good music which happens to be played on a bass. Jeff Schmidt, for instance.
 24.
I'm starting to think I should probably sell the girlfriend and keep the basses
Pics? Tempted by that fretless - we could meet halfway, like, uh, in Luxembourg?
 25. When I was looking for a bass to start with two years ago, I found an Ibanez Jazz bass copy in a second hand store for 100 pounds. It was a beautiful bass, black with white pickguard, maple board with black blocks - exactly like this one. I tried it and the strings were buzzing because the neck had a slight backbow so I didn´t buy it. Would have been an easy fix but I didn´t have a clue at the time... Nowadays these are selling for 300 or 400 pounds on eBay...
