The only thing is: this bass has so. much. treble. I haven't touched the treble pot because everything I add is waaaaay too much. It might be because of the particularly light ash body but this is the brightest bass I've ever played.[/font][/font][/color] [color=#000000][font=-webkit-standard] [font=arial,helvetica,sans-serif]I want to replace the pickups to tame the brightness a bit, but don't know which to choose. I want to match well with the preamp and have a considerable amount of *oomph* but less bright than the NJ4's. Not that they're bright, but still I want 'em less.[/font][/font][/color]

Next week at a death metal festival here in Holland: Carcass (was supposed to be Morbid Angel but they cancelled due to passport problems), Macabre, Krisiun, Marduk, Godflesh... Aaaaaand then in November: Fink, Bonobo, Queens of the Stone Age, and I got a ticket for Steven Wilson in March.

Looks like an amazingly versatile set of basses! You might wanna look into the new Justin Meldal-Johnsen signature Mustang...

I've seen Bona many times, first time in 2002, around the time of his first solo album. I love his playing and composing, but the last few years I've skipped some of his concerts and haven't even kept up with his most recent albums. TBH, I think he's repeating himself a bit too much lately... His solos have become predictive and especially when he plays with his own band his shows tend to get a bit theatrical and uninspired. The best show I've seen him do was at North Sea Jazz a few years ago, when he did an impro set with Bobby McFerrin and Cyro Baptista. He did some of his well-known licks (he always plays a bit of Dina Lam and Mike Stern's Still There) but it was amazing to see those three guys just having fun improvising. Haven't seen his Cuban project yet, it's supposed to be very good.

[/quote] I can see your point, which is one of the main reasons I went for the Sub Phatty and not for e.g. the Minitaur. The Minitaur has presets but you can't see which one you're using. But I've fiddled with both the Voyager and the Model D, and I find the knob layout of the Model D way easier to understand.

Yes, I do think that The speed knobs are cool!

I think the chrome knobs look a bit cheap.

So for quite a while (say about 15 years) I've liked a lot of bands that are heavily inspired by Radiohead, but have always said and thought that Radiohead itself was a boring, whining "meh" band. But today I think I finally understand it and I like it. Have you ever had that experience with a band (not necessarily Radiohead)?

Thanks a lot! I took the PG and neck off. Unfortunately, due to unknown causes (I suspect the bit wonky refin) the neck stamp is impossible to read. It does have the name "X. Armenta" on the neck. The pots indicate the 18th week of '71, so does the serial. So I guess it's not a '72.

Now I know that many Fender pickguards tend to shrink and not fit the bass anymore, but will this one? I believe the celluloid pickguards shrink and the plastics don't, but I'm not sure of which material this is made of. Who can shine a light on it?[/color][/size][/font][/color]
