1. So - I'm getting on a bit, and am starting to really 'feel' the weight of my 4x10" / 1x15" stack. Naturally, I'd like to buy some Cabs that are both smaller and lighter, but I play in a full-on Rock Band, and just wonder if the smaller stuff does the business? When I set up and play, the speakers really 'punch' me in the back, and most times, I don't have to go through the PA, as they're powerful enough to fill in the gaps by themselves. ('Rock Trio' with Vocalist/Frontman) Fans of the Band say they love the sound I get, and the lads on stage with me always have smiles on their faces when I dig in a bit, so I'm wondering if smaller gear would compromise any of the above? Just as an aside, it's no use telling me or the Band to turn down, as I'm nearly Deaf, not, I might add, from volume, but other Medical issues, and I can only hear loud music. Which is why I joined in the first place - apart from them asking me, they were the only Band I could flipping hear! Help please, because I can't afford a Roadie!
 2. Just received a pedal from Cameron, and was kept in the loop until it landed safely on my doorstep. Excellent all round, so, as they say on fleabay, 'deal with confidence'.
 3.
. The thing is though that he's the father of the guy that runs the band. Personally he's a nice enough guy but hyper sensitive when it comes to mentioning things like his left hand.
In my opinion only, these two facts would make me run, not walk, away from the Band. You're never going to be listened to by either of them, and in fact, when it comes to the crunch, Family will nearly always 'gang up' on an outsider. Personally, I think you're a saint, because I couldn't have lasted two and a half years without saying something VERY forcefully about the situation.
 4.
Stuff is all over my head. Back in the 60s I don't think we had mids. Just bass, treble and volume. Blue
Treble? You must have used expensive Amps!
 5. Bought a pair of Bridge/Pickup covers for a Project I've got on the go, and it was one of the easiest transactions I've had. Mike sent them well packaged, and they arrived safe and sound. As they say on EvilBay "Deal with confidence!"
 6. I bought a Synth Wah from Adam, and couldn't be happier with the transaction. Well packed, quick delivery and no problems at all. As they sometimes say on fleabay - deal with confidence!
 7.
Having a did, it looks like a private promoter who then makes a donation to this charity involved. Apparently the charity involved state it is confidential information what donations are made and the only accounts they produce are total donations, individual donations are confidential. I am starting to see why he might be so offended by my questions.
Screw that! Get on to the Charities Commission, and DEMAND answers! "You're calling me a thief" followed up by "We really can't tell you how much he donates" leaves a HELL of a lot of scope for money to slip into back pockets. You've played this Gig before, so you have a vested interest in knowing if you or the Charity have been ripped off, especially if it's happened more than once. It's typical "bureaucrat speak", practically the same as when Politicians "can't comment on individual cases" when EVERY case is individual. (edit for typo)
 8.
Not meaning to go off topic here, but are you sure it's you? 5/6 years ago I had a massive problem with my sound at rehearsals - whatever I did there was far too much bass and the basslines sounded horribly woolly and boomy. I threw money at the problem for a few months before discovering that "my" problem was actually the keyboard player's left hand. Our line-up in that band now has two guitars and no keys, which is a huge improvement, but there have been occasions where a fuzzy Les Paul sound played near the nut has sounded like problems with the bass again.
I spent a couple of years in a Band like this, trying to impress on the two guitarists that they were both too 'bassy' for the songs. I was getting dirty looks from the Manager, audiences and everyone else, as there were "Bass feedback" noises constantly throughout the Set. Until the night I plugged the Bass lead into my mouth, turned the strings to face my body, and "played" the wood on the back of it. The "bass feedback" continued even when I stopped doing that, drank a pint onstage, and did arm-stretches to emphasise my point! The message finally got taken seriously.....
 9.
i still find it a bit uncomfortable the body shape is a lot different but I guess I will get used to it.
I couldn't, no matter how long I tried.
 10. Excellent deal with Paul on Pickups and Wiring Harness. Packaged perfectly, so much so, that it was able to withstand a Courier lobbing it over a fence onto solid concrete! Nice one, mate.
 11.
It does strike me, though, that the keys and the guitarist are belting it out for attention all at the same time. Get used to it, some things never change! Actually it's all a bit all the same. (Or is it cos of my noob bass playing?) Quite possibly, but with every rehearsal, you're improving But if each song is played in a different style to the original, how can I learn them? Take a small recorder of some description (H2 or suchlike), record the rehearsals, and play along to 'their versions' at home. The keys and the leader have played together in bands for about 50 years, but they don't seem to be able to take it in turns to solo and stand back to give room for the other. See first reply. The keys player sounds like some wurlitzer organ on a bad night at a holiday camp. Sacrilege, I know, but on certain songs, so does Jon Lord. The guitarist sounds like a Hank Marvin wannabe on speed. (He has a C&W background btw) He might actually be on a steep learning curve as well, trying new (to him) things, and be almost as worried as you.
Give it time. Things may improve, they may not, but you're learning all the time, and I don't just mean new songs.
 12. Bugger! I've been looking for one of these to complete my collection, but I've only got 8 million going spare.
 13.
We do three sets of roughly an hour each with a half hour break after set one then about fifteen minutes after second set. We start at 10 ish and finish about 1.30 . I too have a problem with taking breaks just when it's getting busy and you end up losing folk cos the bar doesn't put music on . Our guitarist annoys me cos he has to have his breaks for a fag and I'm standing listening to every bugger laying off cost they've just come in and want some music
MP3 or CD player going through the PA between sets helps.
 14.
Just don't use a Dutch masterpiece as it will come in a bit pricy.....
'Barump-Tish!'
 15. Woodchopper's Ball - reading the dots - 1965. (It was with an Old Tyme Dance Band who paid VERY well!)
 16.
Get a hat. [s]Be cool[/s] Look silly playing indoors wearing a hat..
Fixed.
 17. Your Guitarist is right. Just make sure you don't try to play before it dries completely!
 18. The second that most people see 'Pick up only' they immediately flick to the next item. Good score!
 19. Just in case...You don't fancy a swap for a Yamaha BB424X by any chance? My arthritis is playing funny buggers, and it's a bit too heavy for my shoulder nowadays.

 23. I suppose it all depends on the type of clientele the Dog and Duck gets on Band Nights. Round these here parts, most of the audiences are pretty knowledgeable about their Music, and there are a surfeit of excellent Bands on the 'circuit'. If you make the effort to stand out from the crowd, it gives Landlords and Punters alike something 'extra' to remember you by, and it doesn't cost a lot either. A while ago, the Band I was in were searching for a 'look' to take on the road, and Asda came to the rescue! The Wife told me they had a Sale on, so for the massive sum of £24, we bought 4 black t-shirts and 4 black vests. We wore the t-shirts for the First Set, along with black jeans that we all owned, and vests for the Second. At our second gig, the Landlord came up to us and said it was excellent that we had made the effort to look like a Band, said we had a Professional look about us, and gave us another 3 gigs for the rest of the year. (With a bigger fee, I might add.) Word spread, the money went up, Gigs came rolling in, and all on the strength of a daft 'uniform'. I suppose the fact that we could play well might have helped a bit though.
