1.
It could just as easily be on the inside 10 turns.
Agree, that what was I was trying to say with which end to remove turns from. You said it more clearly - inside or outside windings. Ask the guy can he rewind without original coil - he will have some originals to work from. If he has, you now have nothing to lose and £20 to gain (other than time, faff and possibly varnish everywhere). If he can rewind try the DIY first. Nothing to lose, beer money to save...
2. My blue striped shirt is in the wash and I mislaid the bag labelled swag. However Nr Chelsmford narrows it down....
3. Very unlucky by the sound of it, probably a short. However it can't be far in, say 6K ohms and 7500 turns for whole pickup. This gives about 1 ohm per turn. Are you brave? You might get lucky by removing say 10 turns - problem is which end to remove 5 turns from. The danger of this approach is that you may destroy it forever and it may not fix the issue. It depends on how the pickup coil was wound. It may not be possible to remove the offending wire to remove the short. Another desperate measures method - am not sure if this will work. Polyurethane varnish (spirit based), dilute until incredibly thin. Immerse pickup coil, leave several days. Remove, allow to dry. You might get lucky and varnish gets into the 'short'. Good luck
4. If the main body of the coil is still in its paper / plastic wrap (I forget what, was 1975 or so when I took mine apart to look inside) then the coil should be ok. You might have a short against the metal case. Take it apart, remove the coil from the magnets (it is very simple construction if an original one). Try measuring resistance. If in the K ohm range (as mentioned above) the coil is ok. If the coil is ok when outside the case, coat the wires in something like varnish or nail varnish. This will hopefully sort it.
5. Go on, make it easy for us. Price - forum rules, and where are you?
6. Play it, see what you think, is it worth the money. I would also suggest look at Yamaha pacificas, seriously good value for the money.

"SOLD"

That is as nice as a very nice thing. Another item to help with possible divorce...
8. Basschat is great, I have bought a fair bit of kit here. I have sold one set of kit and gave a donation (no email though - but may have been in early days) . I would be happy to subscribe. What are the costs of hosting and running site? what bandwidth are we using? should this data be available in the community?
9. Great job, these cabs are built to last from high quality materials. Will last another lifetime now.
10. As a physicist I would resort to the time honoured method... suck it and see. With experimental evidence of the real situation we can see which effects dominate. . Ahpook - how very, very hand-wavingly were you? A drop of 0.0001 Hz seems low from intuition - which can be very wrong. You are bang on about the potential complexity with possible transition from laminar to turbulent flow, We could also see cavitation as well. An interesting problem, good for final year degree project or a more qualitative A level investigation I guess.
11. UK mains transformer should not make any difference providing it is right specification - giving correct HT (B+) etc.
12. The offsetting makes cabinet shorter in vertical dimension and wider in horizontal. Cones closer together vertically, further apart horizontally. I will decline making comments on sonic performance, there are better qualified and experienced people who can.
13.
It was fine. I'm still crap
A man who knows my bass playing - am still amazed what a difference 2.5mm makes (no references from other half here please). However am gradually getting used to narrower spacing. As others have mentioned - just put the time in.
14.
EDIT: Mind you, it'd give his local A&E staff something to chuckle about...
This does not bear thinking about - made me smile, now where is the relentless horsemeat probe
15. Has anyone seen Dave in the last few days. I am worried that he may be araldited to a Peavey bass combo and is trapped.
16. If you really must have the neck dive, get a narrow smooth strap and hang some fishing weights on the headstock. This should give the required neck dive
17. 1. 1977 Precision I had from new had the plastic gasket.
18.
Could you not cut a sheet of thin plastic to shape, spray over it, remove the tuner bushes and string guide, affix to the headstock with low tack double-sided sticky tape (avoiding the existing logo) and replace the hardware? Is something like this called an overlay? Or would that be silly?
Not silly, an excellent non-destructive idea. Could possibly be affixed with copydex (avoiding the logo).
19. Even with paddle necks etc, look at the cost. I have a (misguided?) wish to recapture my youth, Gibbo EB2 which is nuts money these days. The answer so far is s/h warwick rockbass streamer £100 + some diesel. Great neck, machines, pickups (hmm - weak). Will build own body later. Buy a bass, part it, mod it, is way cheaper at the moment.
