1. If my Jazz didnt have a red headstock it would be getting a new body right about now.
2. That's a sweet looking jazz but I need more!!! I first discovered this colour when walking past Electric Lady Land in Bristol and there were matching p-bass and tele in this colour in the window, they grabbed my attention straight away and I've loved it ever since.
3. The ultimate marmite colour, I personally love it, anyone have anything in this curious colour? What are other peoples opinions on it? Post your pics here
4. Duuuuuude I hope I can write a simular thread in years to come. You have owned some absolute beauties and some very interesting basses, I particularly like your Ricky
5. MEGA lol, that is awesome, and pointless at the same time, I like these qualities
6. Turns out mine is a 79 build. I gave it an outing today and it's damn near broke my back, but I still love it Flat Eric you are a mind of information about these fair play. What else do you know about them? I'm tempted to get a railed one now just to hear the contrast between them I found out from the previous owner that it set him back a mere 25 notes. I still think I came out on top though
7. I'm thinking the spb-3 may be the way to go. Every sound clip I hear I like. I just hope it sounds good in context. Also it's by far the least expensive option. If it will do for Steve Harris there can't be much wrong with it
8.
Well, after setting off at 6 this morning and completing a round-trip of 360 miles, my 5 string P Bass is finally here. It took a fair bit longer than Jon estimated, but once I saw it in the flesh and played it I would have waited another 6 months for it!! It is beautiful and I think Jon has done a superb job. It's exactly what I asked for but honestly it has come out better than I ever hoped. The EMG's sound amazing and the neck is exactly the same dimensions as my old Stingray 5 string (exactly as I spec'd it). The colour is amazing and took my breath away when I first saw it. The ash grain comes through incredibly well and if anything, the pics don't do it justice. The Mother of Pearl on the neck is beautiful and has a very deep lustre. He's a thoroughly decent guy and an incredibly talented craftsman. He even fitted a passive switch to my Stingray FOC while I waited. I'm sure this is not to everyone's taste, but I spec'd out and asked for a traditional P Bass with a few modern touches. I think he's delivered it and more. It will fit in beautifully with my Stingray and Fender P Bass. I'm seriously happy and would not hesitate to use Jon again if I ever decided to buy another custom bass. I hope you like it as much as I do. Here's my new bass named after my Wife who chose the colour scheme.
This bass is beautiful, where did you get the dog ornament thingy from? my mum has the same one
9. Hey man. I have a set of Delano p-bass pickups that I would love to trade for these if you fancy? (the ones with the massive pole pieces).
10. I hear you man, Active ciruitry is the devil, and batteries belong in remote controls, not basses. My amp isnt the problem either, I have an Ampeg SVT CL and 8x10, both of which are in fine working order. The main issue is that the P gets lost in the mix between guitars and the kick drum live, where my jazz doesn't, theres just too much mud, I know comparing Jazzes to Ps is completely ridiculous because they are different beasts. I prefer playing P-basses to jazzes and that P with a pick and an ampeg 8x10 sound is what I want but this Delano thing is just too fussy and too modern if thats the right word for my taste.
11. Hey guys, Im having a bit of trouble choosing a new pickup for my P-bass, let me set the scene for you. The P in question has no onboard controls at all, is wired stright from pickup to jack and I am hoping to keep it this way, previously my settings never changed from full volume and full tone so i dont really see the need for controls, plus I have my Sans-amp BDDI for tweaking. I am hoping the P is gonna become my live bass (or at very least a backup for my Jazz). It is currently fitted with a Delano thingy (the one with the 4 massive MM stylee pole pieces) which I cannot get on with at all, I cant help but think it was designed to work with active electronics, It is far too muddy and no where near high output enough for me, It gets lost in the mix live where my jazz (which by the way has a pair of shed 'hot and dangerous' pickups) doesn't. My first thought was the Di Marzio split P (the one in the Yamaha Attitude), but I reckon this is gonna suffer from the same problems as the Delano. Then my attention turned to the Duncan SPB-3 the 'old faithful' of the p-bass replacement pickup world. but to be honest Im not entirely sold on this idea after playing a Mike Dirnt P-bass. So now I am in a world of possible custom efforts from Wizard or possibly shed again but I dont know what I want. Is it possible/a good idea to split a Jazz pickup like a P-bass one and just get that in? Am I asking too much to want my P to have the attack/definition that my jazz has? What can i do? Cocco
12. This must be heart breaking for you man, If it wasnt a five I'd be selling my body right now. I hope whatever you end up with keeps you happy. Every time i see a Shuker I want one just a little bit more. Out of curiosity is that the Schaller 2000 bridge? how do you find it? Im incredibly tempted by it as i cant find Leo Quann anywhere anymore, do they retrofit to fenders?
13. I have a Badass on my flagship modded to death, hot and dangerous Jazz Bass. It was the first thing I changed on it and to this day is still my favorite mod, the terrible hand relic'ing job being my least favorite. I just honestly wish i could get my hands on another one for my p-bass . It completely transformed my Jazz from the shrunken violet 'its alright in a sort of mediocre way' sort of thing that it once was to the snarling evil beast that it currently is. It now sounds like it would take your mother out to dinner and never call her again As I said the only problem is finding another one
14. I dont know what I was thinking when i wrote my last post on this bass, Its grown on me massively. I cant wait to see the finished product now

I recently reluctantly sold one of these, I loved it too, but i hadnt used it in ages
16. is that a dirty blonde thumb? I like it
17. Im open to offers guys, i just want some monies towards the new pickup really, it honestly is an awesome pickup, just my P-bass has no controls at all so i need a one trick ponyn of a thing in there, this just isnt it.
18.
You are absolutely correct! Hartley Peavey and Chip Todd pioneered the use of machinery to replicate the features over and over again. The machine developed to make rifle butts identical, could make necks that had the same profile, time after time. CNC machines were put to use on the other parts that were machined, so each instrument had a consistency. I have several T-40's and T-60's and the feel of each is the same, with the only difference being between the early ones (more slab bodied) and the later ones, which were more contoured. They also laminted the necks in a way that Leo Fender later used on his G&L range. Check out the link below. Peavey Number One Cheers. Flat Eric.
Thats cool man, how do you work out the age of them? mine is definatly an old one because it is slab bodied and doesnt have the pickup rails but ive never actually known the age
19. Once again I have decided that my P-bass needs a new pickup so for sale is this lovely piece of work. The website says this :- "Just imagine meaty P-Bass™ tone with in-your-face Stingray™ style grind and attack, then you got at least the frame of the picture. Due to its tight broad frequency range, this is a GREAT pickup for nu-school funk and rock players, it loves droptuned basses and massive tone tweaking." and i completely agree but its just not the tone I want. I'm currently tempted by either a Duncan SPB-3 or a DiMarzio Split P. Ive had the duncan before and i loved it but i sold the bass it was in and didnt think to take it out. The DiMarzio just sorta interests me. If you fancy a swap hit me up. The sale is to finance either of the above so im looking around the £70/80 mark but i have no idea what the Delano costs new, if im out of the ball park please let me know Much Love Cocco
