1. I'm pretty keen on this, would be interested to try a five string version Cai
2. ohhh that's lovely, nice one! They sound incredible as well Cai
3. My old Musicman sub stayed in tune forever, I always checked but it was very rare I'd ever have to tune it, the Sandberg I've just traded could stay in very long periods of time as well! I've had a fair share of basses that lasted about 20 minutes of play before being slightly out of tune though. Cai
4. You guys should check out the Juanito Makandes (Drummer) other stuff on youtube, plays guitar and sings like a BOSS. fantastic musician. Cai
5. I would be interested to know how much it does affect the tone, I mean it's clearly going to affect the weight. I've always, Actually, hang on a second *Straps on bullet proof vest*, as I was saying, I've always been quite fond of singlecut basses. Cai
6. some tone clips here http://www.thomann.d...ling_preamp.htm EDIT. Although you can probably find better ones on youtube
7. Thomas is of the nicest people I've had the fortune of dealing with on basschat so far and I've done a fair amount! His choice of delivery company was spot-on, Very quick, and we had a good chat over email, a great guy and looking at his bands videos on youtube, a very good bass player! Cheers Thomas, a genuine pleasure! Cai
8.
Walked out of Bass Direct with a new Clover 4 Avenger. Very happy
Damn.. I was lucky enough to play an avenger 5, One of the best sounding basses I've ever played, definitely on my Top 5 list! Definitely get some pictures in the bass porn section! Cai
9. Sorry bootsy but This bass is too dorky for me http://www.edroman.com/guitars/bootsy/images/bootsy-collins.jpg
10. +1 On the Zoom B3, That's all I use (I've just moved into a tiny room with no space to move so the rig had to go) and I absolutely love it, the amount you can do with it is unreal, but the BDI-21 is definitely worth a purchase anyway for the price! Cai
11. I watch it all the way though (I have time to kill) and I nearly raked my eyes out when Billy started, I really am not a fan of his stupid crazy stuff Cai
12. Nice one Skol303, Never would of expected one of Britneys tracks to have such a groovy bassline!
13.
Thanks! I think they were close to £1000 when new?
Around that price I believe but either way, if you get an sr500 for £300 you're doing very well! so to get this for £400 is very good! Cai
14.
...as others have said; "the funk is in the fingers". The sound is down to you and how YOU play, so going by headstock names and buying "cherry-red" over "swamp ash" or whatever is all cr@p. You have to try one out. Thank God we still have some shops about still - not that that's my point.
I absolutely agree and I do support my local music shop (although some of the staff are clueless) but unfortunately the Human Base Roxy is rare as hens teeth in England so it was a case of knowing I love the delano dickup, I know the hardware is on par with what I like, and the shape suits me more, then it came down to trying to find youtube videos of that exact bass (which there are few of by the way) at the end of the day I'm getting a cheaper bass that I will be more comfy with and it sounds nice job done Cai
15.
And Ed Friedland is exactly the reason why I consider YouTube demos to be mostly pointless. His demo of the Lightwave Saber sounds absolutely nothing like the one I used to have when I played it. IMO he just made it sound like Ed Friedland.
A fair point, fortunately there wasn't too much fancy stuff as I mentioned be he went though all the options on the bass (which on a Humanbase is a lot) so I was able to get quite a good idea of what sounds to expect. Still tempted by one of those modern players jazz bases in the futures as a all round do everything bass though, brilliant backup basses and a great stand alone instrument if you're just having one Cai
16.
Audioslave. What's not to like? Chris Cornell and Timmy C in the same band! Awesomes.
Oh I very much like, I own all three albums and was pretty cheesed off when they parted ways! I just read a previous comment asking for good basslines in something a bit heavier Cai
17.
Timmy C from Rage against the machine's got a whole box full of groove...
Or even his stuff in Audioslave, he had some awesome grooves in that! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4m2q5Fw8gwI Awesome Video as well
18.
ouch, but what was wrong with that audience? They were cheering cos his bass fell apart? What did those sadists want for an encore, for him to feed the remains through a wood chipper?
I'd much rather people cheering and laughing than them being all sad and upset besides, "Hey yeah I remember you guys, the double bass that exploded right?" That would NEVER get old Cai
19.
My gripe is the lack of honesty on the reviews on Youtube. I love those by Ed Friedland - "The Bass Whisperer" He's about the best reviewer on there IMHO. They're clear and not over the top. They seem honest, but when you think about it; when have you heard him say, "this bass isn't for me, the neck's too thick", or "damn this thing's like lead" ?
Boom, Yes Ed Friedland is really good, in fact this guy is the reason I am trading my Sandberg JM5 For a HumanBase Roxy, he went through all the tone settings without doing too much fancy stuff and allowed me to hear what I needed to here, the bass has the sound I want (and need for my current project) and it's a little bit smaller than a bulky jazz body so I'll find it more comfortable, the rest of the parts are near identical to the Sandberg hardware, so it ticks pretty much all the boxes for me! Cai
20. very nice! I'd very much like one of these! Cai
21. Honestly, I've been blown away by some basses that people would turn their nose up at, I've also played high end basses that have been perfection but if I were starting again and I didn't have the gas I have now I'd just get one of these: http://www.gak.co.uk/en/fender-modern-player-jazz-bass-v-satin-olympic-white/84495?gclid=CLCM_t6xoLkCFUuWtAodaW4AZA Because for me, it's built well, it's going to have more tones than most of us are ever going to need and it looks fantastic too, and at that price I wouldn't be crying my ass back to the music shop if it got a bit scuffed up! Cai
22. On the good side, if you're playing a long with a hiphop artist where you might play one riff for the whole song, you could set it on loop then pop off for a beer EDIT. this isn't a dig at hiphop at all, if it wasn't for this kind of music I'd still be clueless about good tone
23.
What a shame so many people grab this opportunity to knock a genre that can be so challenging and diverse.
I understand this completely, hence why I used to listen to so much metal, I met a girl on the bus to college a few years a go, she was in her late 20's, we got chatting about music, and she was telling me how she liked Opera, and fair enough, what ever floats your boat, but then she told me she liked metal as well, and that took me by surprise, I asked if there was a particular reason she liked such "clashing" genres, her answer was great, "Because Metal is the only other type of music that can match the intensity Opera provides" And yeah playing a metal gig well, certainly involves a large performance aspect to the gig as well! Nowadays I do the occasional gig supporting an acoustic artist where I sit on a stool for the whole gig, VERY different, I still enjoy it though! Cai
