1.
AHA! Here: http://www.mikeyguitar.com/
Now that is cool. As a person that can only afford to have one bass at a time currently, this would be great! Thanks for sharing Cai
 2. this is coming along so well, she's going to be beautiful!
 3. This is a really nice idea, it's definitely going to be something very special and personal to you Cai
 4.
I'm surprised you didn't mention active electronics in that list - possibly (arguably) the most significant change to the face of the electric bass since, well, the Precision. Unfortunately, as has been pointed out, dwindling wood stocks are one of the drivers for innovation at the moment. Synthetic / composite materials might increase in popularity. Otherwise, many of the new innovations are in amplification. You could argue that the current 'big thing' in bass development is Class D power amplifiers.
Push/pull active pots was my general note about active electronics, I could of sat there and listed a lot more but I just wanted to provide an example. Synthetic / composite materials do seem to be a lot more common in recent years with larger manufacturers dabbling with them too. Cai
 5.
Oh, and I have met bassists who might have trouble calming a dead sloth, we are not all happy clappy cool dudes.
not heard that one before!
 6.
Real "progress" will continue to come from amplification and cabinets, on board eq, and perhaps pickups. Something like real-time analysis of room modes/reverb by your amp, which then corrects them by applying the relevant eq to give you your desired response. Some good work has come from the folks who produce Q tuner pickups and Lightwave systems. One day, we won't have amps, cabs and PA. It'll either be vibrating force fields to generate the sound or we'll directly transmit it to our audience's brain, missing out ears entirely. © both of those ideas, BTW!
Get in early, enjoy the profits later haha! Some really interesting stuff here, I agree with the different woods being used a lot more often! Cai
 7.
How many of the developments mentioned in this thread have *really* changed the face of bass? I can't think of many, if any, that are a permanent fixture on all new basses....
A good point, but as mentioned earlier adjustable neck relief along the length of the neck would certainly be a good addition IMO Cai
 8.
It won't be anything visual of any use or ornament. I reckon it might, in fact SHOULD be, adjustable neck relief along the LENGTH of the neck so you can set the apex and profile of the neck curvature between about the 9th to the 16th frets. I think that would make it possible to set up the bass in a much more comfortable way to suit the string gauges, scale length and tuning. Necks bend at different places so a new truss rod system to control that bend could mean better feel and playability and above all, consistency. It may have been done already, never heard of it though. Not convinced I've explained it well either
This sounds like great idea (And I understand your explanation ) As for the Through Body Bridges Delbethot, They've come a long way now with Hi-mass bridges being added, and some bridges giving you the option of through body and standard bridge set up but yes they certainly have been around for a long time, they just seem to be improving quite a lot. This third printing idea seems interesting, I'll have a read into that this afternoon Cai
 9.
The music man game changer bass, maybe. http://www.bassdirec...amechanger.html
Yes, very good call, always found the game changer an interesting idea, I'll have to throw the Enfield Super 8 pickup out there then, http://www.enfieldgu...com/super8.html, I don't think other brands will copy it too much but it certainly makes for an interesting design and from my experience they do sound very good!
 10. Well in my days of playing a lot of open notes (terrible metal bands) I can here the difference of playing an open note on a zero fret to hearing an open note on a plastic/bone nut, I find the sound is a lot more consistent with playing a fretted note. As I say, just my preference but quite a few builders have seemed to start using them.
 11. The title might sound odd I know, but to have electric basses is incredible. But since then we've had so many developments on improving the bass I.E; Dual, Graphite, or advanced metal truss rods arguably headless basses (I think they are a leap forward for basses BUT I'm not starting to cause a war so try not to argue about this here please!) Through body bridges Varied scale lengths Push/Pull Active pots And the one that I really like is a Zero Fret, after having a Sandberg for so long it's something I've very much got used to and I'm very glad my new HumanBase has this too I know there are quite a few that I've missed out but my question to you is, what do you think we will start to see a lot more on basses in the next 10-20 years? I'm not a designer or luthier and I know most of us are not, I'm interested to see what people think has been beneficial or will be beneficial. And here we go! Cai
 12. I'm more of a sterling guy but this is something else Gorgeous! Good luck with the sale! Cai
 13. A Marleaux Betra Custom 5 without the silly fancy wooden top but I won't be affording one of those in the next few years but my current bass would more than suffice anything I'd ever need if I'm being realistic. Cai
 14. Ello ello, these are a rare sight! Suhr stuff is top notch! Good look with the sale!
 15. [s]His hand[/s] HE looks like a bloody epileptic in a disco.. and its a very horrible sounding disco
 16.
Are these chaps expensive??
Cheers for the kind comments, around £1200 to get one imported to the UK from Bassdirect as HumanBase don't actually seem to make this model available directly to the uk from the looks of the website! I love it, I tested it with a lot of different tones last night as I was doing quite a bit of transcribing then I ended up working on my jazz stuff again and it was unbelievable! Cai
 17.
Yeah, that`s a nice looking bass. I like the pick guard, it seems to suit the colour and shape
Thank you very much sir! Yes I do like traditional looking basses but even though this is clearly a modern design, the way it is styled still gives it an almost traditional look about it, a modern classic if you will Keeps me busy and happy enough anyway Cai
 18. Wow thank you so much for posting extra pictures that is absolutely gorgeous! Yeah I've seen standard Korean one but never anything like that! I'm gonna have to have a gander at the website now One cheeky shot of the W&T's gorgeous deep blue coat? I'll leave you alone after that Cai
 19.
On the topic of playing by ear: I haven't had time to transcribe much in the last fortnight. I had a gig on Tuesday where I was really struggling to hear what I wanted to play clearly. Today, I had a gig where my soloing and walking lines came directly out of my head and through the bass with little effort and no 'conscious' thinking - almost as if playing by pure instinct or as if singing. This is the first time that has happened, and the feeling was indescribably wonderful. I expect I'll be chasing that for years to come. What made the difference? Two hour transcribing on Wednesday evening. Really opens up the ears.....
Found this quite inspirational to be honest, I've been working on my transcribing a lot more for the last couple of weeks and it's come on quite away, some of the more basic pop songs I can usually figure out the main riffs in one or two attempts (which is such a great feeling, knowing that you're actually progressing) but after reading this I am definitely going to put aside a few hours a week JUST for transcribing. Cheers. Cai
 20.
I like that! I am a big fan of matte black finishes like that. The pickup looks like it's placed somewhere inbetween the Precision and Stingray positions, what does it sound like? EDIT: I guess this answers my question:
Thank you good sir! Because the bass was in Germany I could only go off of the very few sound clips available on the internet including this one which helped me quite a lot as he does a real good run through of the tones IMO. it's extremely versatile, I know everyone says that about their bass but bearing in mind I swapped it for a bass with Delano J/MM pickup selection to this single Delano pickup. It can do a fairly good impression of both MM and P p'ups thanks to the Parallel/Series Selector but it can really hammer the rattling tone of a Stingray which I actually need for one project, I'm very impressed with the tones available, I thought I'd be a bit limited but not at all, and I've been messing around with metal, hip-hop, jazz and general smooth tones for stuff I do supporting an acoustic artist and I very happy chappy with this beauty Cai
 21. Got this in exchange for my Sandberg a couple of days ago and I must say, I absolutely love her, tweaked the trussrod slightly today and she plays like a dream. It took a lot for me to go back to having a single pickup but after hearing just how versatile the pickup in this is I was sold, and even though the headstock is typically modern shaped (boring as far as I'm concerned), with the wood grain showing and the metal truss rod cover make it a up for it Anyway, enough blabbering, more drooling Cai http://s204.photobuc...ibrary/Roxy%205 P.S. This forum has got a lot harder to post bloody pictures on
 22. what's the gorgeous one pointing the the 10o'clock position with the crazy double wooden top? wouldn't mind another full picture of that beauty! Stunning collection Cai
 23. That's lovely, I've been lucky to play quite a few Marleaux in the past and I have to say they are by far my favourite basses! Given the chance I'll own one at some point, Good luck with the sale, she's lovely! Cai
