1. Mine and stuckinthepod's photo's are at the same venue
2.
I had a newbie, before Christmas, ask me to hold my Bleached Blonde Thumb for him. He was away on hol for a week. Two days after I knew him to be back, I saw him pm Kev, and buy Kev's Dirty Blonde Thumb. Not a word to me. So I pm'd him the next day and he admitted to it. So 11 days on hold and the twat did not have the courtesy to pm me and say he'd bought something else. Since then, only the chosen few will get an "on hold".
I've still got my Mustang (loan) on hold for you since last August
3. I may keep my very old basses but would sell everything else and buy a decent acoustic guitar, like a Taylor or a Martin. Then never take the basses out from under the bed.
4. Only just seen this ead. I'm in Ashton In Makerfield. Ashdown electric blue 180 combo or an Ampeg 300 watt combo if any use to you. Both 15's You could keep hold of the Ashdown for a while till you get sorted but would need the Ampeg back for Friday. Cheers Les
5.
I do note the irony of the first two posts, saying too many bands, too few venues, while playing in 3 bands!
Brilliant I didn't when I was posting it.
6. Exactly the same for me up north in Wigan, Too many bands, too few venues, I'm ok but I too am playing in three bands. Les
7. It was cancelled
8.
I don't know for sure, but I got the impression that guy is reasonably advanced in years and that the posters of the bass player ad are not..
I take your point. Age and location aside I can't see this band saying to him not to bother if contacted them. If you know what I mean.
9. I think it's a fairly honest ad, if slightly clumsy. Probably a lot depends on where you are in your bass playing journey as to how you see it. It wouldn't be of interest to me but there was a guy on here recently asking how soon is too soon to join a band. This would probably be worth a go for him. Les
10. My name is Les and I'm an alco.................oops, wrong thread, and I used a music stand last Saturday night. There. I've said it !
11. I do our sound and I must admit I do start with the drums because they seem to be the thing that gives me a problem if I'm going to get one, the vocals and guitars generally sound ok from the off fairly flat.
12. What scale is it mate ?
13. The knobs look like the Stingrays in which case the is a small screw at the side that locks the knob to the stem of the pot. Undo it and take the knob off, then make sure the nut that holds the pot to the control plate is tight and the whole thing isn't turning, if it's fine it's prob the screw that holds the knob on needs a tighten. Les
14. You should go for it. You're already ready in your head and that's a major part of it. Ultimately it isn't going to be your decision. If you audition and the band say's yes then it's the right time. Don't get too hung up on your playing, listen to your tutor. Speed will come. BassChat is a bass forum so there is a lot of focus on technique, sheer brilliance and awesomeness. BUT most bands want something solid to hang their egos on, solid will win you the gig over flamboyance. good luck Les
15.
That can work, however, you can only do that if the iron is actually there. Over here, LLs & owners are usually not there. Blue
Doesn't seem to be the general case over here. Most of the bookers are usually at the gig. It would have to be the usual runaround of trying to get hold of the booker on the phone then. I would still advocate striking quickly rather leaving it a few weeks.
16.
seems odd, we have been together a month and a half, have 30 songs and already one gig down.
That's exactly the situation I'm in with one of my other bands. 3 rehearsals, one gig done and two rebookings from it. Second gig this Friday Les
17. Striking while the iron is hot and sorting the rebooking on the night is always the best way and always try to get a years worth of bookings.
18.
It's just frustrating and not fun anymore
Perfectly valid reasons to bag it mate. Got to ask though, 8 months of rehearsals before your first gig and you didn't see the signs ? Les
19. Well I'm impressed with all that mate.
20. What time are you picking me up Karl ?
21.
Good luck, I hope it goes well for you
Thanks Pinball, and double thanks for doing this fab thread.
22. Sorry I'm late with this but I've just realise one of my sideline bands does it's first gig tomorrow night in Stalybridge. https://www.facebook...6753855?fref=ts Ta Les
