Dawsons

I think the guys in the Stockport Dawsons store get extra commision if they flog Farida's. Went in to buy a lowish budget acoustic guitar and got the sales pitch on Faridas. Eventually spoke to four different guys, three determined to plug Faridas. Only one guy gave what I though to be a honest opinion. Ended up with a Tanglewood TW155ST. Nice guitar for £225
The problem-I think-for just learning fingerboard shapes,is that you can easily become reliant on these patterns, whereas knowing the notes in the chords will open up the entire fingerboard you.
This has eluded me so far. I'm still relying on chord and scale shapes far too much. I've got the theory books to develop beyond using shapes but have still to get there.

  7. +1 for drum machine. Tons more fun than a metronome.

  9. Another +1 on the Rumble 100. Very good mids for that bit of slap if your that way inclined!
  10.
Thanks chaps. I've probably been a bit too hung up on keeping a finger-to-a-fret for this. On the subject of one finger per fret rule. I use my ring finger for about 5% of my fretwork. It's a small hand thing. Anybody do the the same or any opinions of making the ring finger mostly redundant?
  11. Had the same bass for 11 years. Same colour everything,. Great starter or back up bass
  12. Lots of melody which is my kind of playing.
  13. I use the G77s on my semi acoustic Tacoma Thunderchief. Nearest thing that I've got to a double bass sound. Although it has decreased the unplugged volume compared to phospher bronze. very smooth sound and very smooth on the fingers. Never tried them on an electric. About £18 from Stringbusters

  16.
OK, you really didn't get it then did you? They are immediately excluding anyone in the local area (or beyond) who could be perfect for them, allowing them to go onwards and upwards but outside the age range (lower or higher). Audition is out of the question, they've already ruled them out. It was my way of saying "if you're signed and in dire need, don't limit your boundaries unnecessarily - you might find the perfect bass player".
I'm 42 and perfect, Would I have to grecian 2000 the greying hair to look the part!
  17. Not sure if this one's still up for sale. I like this bass with flatwounds. http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...amp;hl=takamine
  18.
BUY THIS! I've had one for a few years and it really is a great bass. NB. Most electro-acoustic bass guitars are really only useful when amplified, so don't buy one if you want to use it completey unplugged, as they are too quiet. I've gigged mine unplugged (competing with a keyboard and an acoustic guitar)
Difference of opinion here. Never played the Washburn so I'd say my opinion is not the most knowledgeable
  19. With the bronze strings the Tacoma will just about hold it's own with an acoustic unplugged. Very few, if any ABG can do this. For £200 though the Washburn is a good buy, just be prepared to amplify if you want to play with other musicians .
  20. If budget isn't an issue I'd recommend a Tacoma Thunderchief. £700 but a massive sound with Phosper Bronze strings. Play mine with Black tapewounds which loses some of the volume but gives it a bit of a double bass sound. Before anybody comes back with a quip I'll emphasise a bit of a double bass sound.

Great band in their original raw days. Not in town when they do Manchester though
  22.
Do you know what those strings were? I've been looking around for some acoustic flats for a while now...
Not sure what strings they are. Just brought a Tacomas Thunderchief and swopped the Phosphers for some Galli black nylon tapewound. Individual taste but i think they're bloody great
