1.
Sometimes living in a small/rural town can restrict your opportunities.
Examples include: finding a wife outside of the family; avoiding certain genetic characteristics; etc You have come, as you say, to a 'somewhat drastic decision' - I don't think you mean it, but just need a gee up. I don't think there's any miracle source for finding new opportunities - you try the band forums, the music forums; etc, and eventually something will come along and catch your eye.
2. Oh, I should have asked this earlier - we had a situation where three of our four band members were wearing glasses. We were in danger of starting to look like Weezer, so we used to draw lots as to who could keep his glasses on the night. I astigmatic and have trouble working out distances without the gogs, so invariably got to keep mine - nothing like your giant bass player losing depth perception on stage, as a precursor to disaster!
3. I'm glad to know I'm in good company with the nerves. I worry and fret right up to the moment of hitting the stage... and then thoroughly love the whole thing and come off stage cursing myself for being such an idiot, on such a high and wishing I was going back on. And then we book the next gig and I'm back to worrying... I'm unsure what to recommend on the day. Don't over-practice; don't drink too much; just keep chatting with your mates and staying cool.
4. Jeans, tee, pumps. Corpsepaint.
5. It will, eventually. It's just a bad time and people have no money - it's all tucked under mattresses, and the like. Doesn't explain why the trade market is so slow, mind!
6. What, another one?! Still nothing to offer, Mark - have a bump though!
7. Welcome to have my Spector, but must admit it's a bad time to shift anything.
8. Yeah, it's all frigging collectibles in the Kinder Eggs these days. Just gash. Nothing like they used to be.
9. Must be hungover. Maybe they were out at a form party last night.
10. Does this work better? http://www.yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk/news/latest-news/top-stories/trail_of_stolen_guitars_led_to_leeds_1_4289238
11. They stole the headlines, boom boom! Have been in there a few times.
12. Back again? Don't fancy an equally limited edition Spector? You're about a month ahead of bonus season. No silly money on me.
13. Well, 2 out of 3 isn't bad! £750? Still looking to trades - decent Fenders (pref. Jazz), Yammy BBs, MMs, etc. Might even accept M&Ms, at this rate
14. Very nice, Andy. These are meant to be a decent way of getting close to the Musicman sound. I had the Kingston Heir bass, and thought it all very well put together.
15. I just had a quick look at the prices for the 1024/1024X, and I think I might have had my wires crossed with the higher models - they seemed pretty reasonable! When you say hollow, what do you mean? I'm guessing just lacking in any depth, but it's hard to describe. I guess the BB414 is the entry model, so might explain if it was a little basic. How did you find the neck?
16. Remember: bass players need space to pull shapes too
17. Welcome in chief
18. Might as well name and shame, chief, save someone else the trouble of having to find it all out all over again...
19. Haha, I'm like the above - I don't so much have a home setting, as a home amp! I use a small combo at home, meaning less work for my volume rig - so I keep the settings in place. Does anyone have any advice for guitarists who won't listen? Any easy exercises to show the difference it can make? The only one I've tried was simply to change his settings when he had a piss and explain it all afterwards.
20. I haven't quite shaken off the dings - I pranged my Gibson Grabber the other month, and was kicking myself in the arse about it for a good long while! I played one bar in York, where I found myself literally round the corner from the rest of the band. Whilst they could look out onto the crowd, I had a wall in my face, and it took some space invasion to get me back into view
21. League Cup final bump. I'm going to call the football as follows: Steel City derby - Sheff Weds North London derby - Spurs League Cup final - Liverpool
22. Do we have many people using the Yamaha BBs? How do they rate? Was thinking around the 424 or 614, if I've got my numbers right - I've seen the price ramps some beyond that point, up to the 2024s.
23. I don't think you even need to change the extension - in Firefox click 'Open With' when prompted and select Windows Media Player, or somesuch; WMP then tuts about it not being a format it recognises, but will volunteer to have a crack at it anyway... and it plays fine Sounds great; looks great A good purchase, I would say.
24.
A Scotchbrite pad is good, doesn't remove too much material at once.
+1 on the Scotchbrite.
25. I've had a chat with him via Youtube before - great guy and some great playing
