1.
Sound is very subjective. You may well hear a difference, but whether you think it is an improvement depends on your own personal taste!
A very good call, Conan - and, of course, as more knowledgeable posters than me have commented, there are lot of other factors involved in producing your sound. The woods involved; the playing; the amp; the room; etc! So, maybe it's best for me just to confess that this is just my subjective opinion - but I quite like them. When I did my Shuker course I elected to go with Barts - and I think (totally subjective, and you'll have to bear with my choice of words) that they sound quite, well, dark
2.
Love the look of the EVO. Perhaps a double 'bucker version should be produced(Warwick $$ pup placement?).
Now that would be an idea. I'll admit, I am quite intrigued by the Evo - the Miller version looks particularly clean. And, again, it's a good price point to give something a try.
3. Sorry, I was probably a bit rude - it just can be frustrating fending off assumptions that these must be poor copies, because of their origin; I think they're extremely practical basses, giving you a decent stab at the looks and some fine playing and sounds in their own right. Ok, so you might still prefer the original - but it's horses for courses. The offer stands - not least as I have another arriving - if you're nearby you're welcome to try one
4.
See? How much more evidence do some people need that the Rockinbetter is a BAD, BAD copy??? (Never any bleeding on them. )
5. I'll admit, I'll be no help here - so credit to allighatt0r for a much more knowledgeable post. It does look cool, in a very kitsch way
6.
Perhaps people fancied trying a six-string but then quickly found that they had no real use for it.
At a guess, I think ET has hit the nail on the head. That's one of the nice things about this forum. Plenty of access to a wide variety of instruments, and a ready (well, ready-ish - it's a recession, don't you know?) market if we decide not to keep them. I've gone through a few in my time; all have gone to good homes since; and some have moved on again. I may well get some of them back at this rate
7.
... that was fleetingly on sale on BassChat a week back has appeared at the Bass Gallery for an uber-rich £9,900
Someone should have had a bargain on here, then - it was listed for £8.90
8.
It happens quite often that people recite, as opinion, stuff they read on TalkBass or heard someone say down the pub. One thing that bothers me a little is reviews of cabs based on trying them in the shop, or in the the living room. The only way to form a truly useful real-world opinion is to gig it in a variety of situations and see how it fares.
Damn, I know what you mean - and I'm now left trying to remember the name of that Amercian lad, he of the big opinions; nope, it's gone! I think we're all in danger of this. I mean, this is how people learn - from engaging with one another; and we may learn some of the wrong things too, it's only natural. And, of course, with such a big site we find we have a mix of people - and some are still learning, neatly explaining why the old debates never seem to go away; it's because they're always new to someone Still, we do what we can - and I think, on the whole, we all do a good job of calling issues out and talking them through
9. Rig trades also considered - something Orange would be nice!
10. Lovely matey, looks a total stunner
11. Mulling over a Warwick trade. Cash price dropped to £700.
12. Great band, though
13. Neep's taking a quick break. I think he's tired of people telling him he needs a P-bass
14.
Don't even get me started on the 'Ultra Aged' series popping up - Mama Mia
I'm with you on that, matey!
15.
Perhaps you could mark the title as sold now to avoid wasting other BCers time. Cheers.
Ok, I think we can do that. OP - drop me a PM if you have any issue with this.
16.
There is a reason the "real ones" are so expensive...
The hand-crafted CNC? Or the loading of litigation costs into the RRP? Anyway: diddums. Your posts don't give a sense of you having played one of these, and everything of a little protectionism. A little brand attachment, perhaps. It's touching to see, but not the best of platforms for an objective opinion We are in agreement, however - I wouldn't pay £500; but not is this a £150 instrument of shoddy manufacture. The later ones are pretty bloody good; though the Mk1s, with the huge neck, may be an acquired taste for many. If you're ever in York, you're welcome to stop by and try I will disagree with many, however - Ric, themselves, don't need a budget brand. Their business works fine as is, despite the efforts of John Hall. The Rockinbetters work fine for the NPR modest of pocket - or those like me, with a bit of kitsch affection for an item of such controversy.
17. Depends on genre. You can find simplicity and complexity in all ages, should you wish.
18. I still have our old PMs. Had some great advice, and very much missed here.
19. Ok, so it looks like I'll be in Portsmouth Weds.
20. Strange, but all manufacturers will have issues from time to time - no one, big or small, has yet achieved perfection. Glad you got it sorted. I'm fond of both of mine, so I hope you enjoy it
21. Potentially. I need to check my diary, but I'll drop you a PM when I know.
