1.
First time in my life I've ended up in a casino...
Oh aye, all "beginner's luck", eh? Having met Risingson, I'll confirm he's a top bloke, though he's yet to gamble any of my money, I hope
 2.
Start listening and watching stoner doom bands. A Rickenbacker bass tuned to C (or below) is semi-obligatory with a lot of those bands. Start with Sleep and Kyuss (Reeder era) and go from there. There is a Stoner/Doom thread on Talkbass and I bet that there is a bunch of guys who use Ricks. The guitarist in Arch Enemy has another band called Spiritual Beggars, and I'm pretty sure that the bass on all the early albums is on Rickenbacker as well.
Oh yes. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kKqoNrZ00Bg
 3.
Blimey it's quiet in ere. Obviously not very impressive. Maybe it needs a new title ..
I thought, given the guitar context, that you'd be trying to channel Jimi... close but no biscuit, eh? His playing style is cute. You talk about the composition having some items lacking - but I wondered if part of that isn't in the nature of such. They tend to cover certain ground, and maybe don't cater for all tastes. Wonder if he has more vids - wouldn't mind seeing him try something else with a bit more soul to it, if you get me.
 4. This was not the thread the title led me to believe Pursuit of perfection perhaps? We're a fickle bunch, dealing with a highly commodotised product - it postively encourages chopping and changing, of all types
 5. I never took to them, to be honest - but some great playing throughout their catalogue; no denying that they could put a song together.
 6. That's me wrong, then - I thought John Birch, too
 7.
What a shame hardly anyone on the forum seems to know about the competition... or maybe they do know but are not interested in listening to other people's music and don't feel like voting? Who knows? Anyway, as far as I'm concerned it's what it's all about in the end: making and producing music...not 'what strings do you use?' and all that stuff!
I notice it, Spoombung - I just don't believe I could compete, so it's kept me well away in the past. Funkjohn, let me know how you get on at Argos. Am looking forward to your composition - I wonder if it will be more EMF or ELC
 8.
It can be frustrating fending off assumptions about real Rickenbackers, because of their origin. So at least Rockinbetter got that bit right!
You know my opinion, Simon. Fine basses; poor leadership
 9. Had some work done on a bass by Matt. Superb work, as always, and a top guy to deal with. Thanks Matt!
 10. Wow, that brings back memories! My first bass was something like that exact model - a 90s Encore P-bass; made out of dark matter or depleted uranium, it was a heavy thing!
 11. Tried gloves, matey? There are all kinds of medical ones for the circulation. I broke my hand and arm years ago, and I can feel the cold right in the old breaks! Better than any weather forecast for knowing when snow is coming.
 12. Sorry lads, I didn't spot this group until I'd already joined the work one - some worthy efforts all-round, though, and some cash raised for a good cause. Think I'm going to miss mine - and some regrets for not trying to Winnfield, and getting the sideys in on the action!
 13.
Ask Clarky, he'll tell you.
I actually snorted!
 14. b3ta.com, anyone? stonerobixxx.net I quite like - totally fits my musical preferences, lots of new bands to listen to.
 15.
I'm sure that you'll notice a few if you look long enough.
Unless that his arbitrary opinion that we don't have any?
 16.
The only fault on my part is that I express my opinion on Behringer stuff, often without any arguments... I guess when an amp dies after 1 minute of playing, a person could be prejudiced, especially when hearing some similar news from colleagues. But anyway, I apologise.
Is that arbitrary, though? Or simply relating your experience? I think it might be open to accusation if you said all Behringers were poor; but I think you're allowed to recount your experiences, no?
 17.
Not good. Ibanez or their distributer will probably claim that the ragged edge is due to the nature of the top wood used, but IMO if you can't get a smooth cut edge out of the wood it shouldn't be used for making instruments.
I think that's probably a fair call. Always best to trust your instinct on calls like this - if you feel unsure about it, then you don't need us to tell you.
 18. Ooh, I like the Beedster - glad you're enjoying it
