1.
The genz focus LT stuff is silly cheap and not too heavy. The Ampeg svt210 are 11kgs and are cheap cheap cheap.
Don't tell me things like that, I'll get GAS
2.
Not any more....
That's entirely dependant on someone's budget. Lightweight gear is still expensive, I certainly can't afford it.
3. I can't even play a guitar, so it sort of put an end to that
4. a fistfull of dollars is on the other side...
5. I remember when this were all fields...or was it 0's and 1's?
6. Could be...cosy?
7.
Beautiful tone, composition and execution, the antithesis of the video Lowender posted in the OP.
Not bad is he...can he play Sex On Fire? I actually liked that, just to be serious for a fleeting moment. Basschat's own Stuart Clayton does some nice solo arrangements http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HTVwm7_4sbU
8.
"Maverick independent release" is how the band present their recordings to the public , a stance which is undermined if they are relying on EMI. You don't seem to grasp the difference between commercia faliure and relative commercial faliure. The yardstick by which I am measuring the success of Radiohead post-OK Computer is the populist appeal of their music, and it has very little of that .
What utter nonsense. Kid A went platinum in it's first week of release in the Uk, if that's a failure in any way shape or form I'd surely like to fail. In Rainbows sold 3m copies in it's first year. I for one would be extremely happy to be making music that for filled me and had such commercial success. Thank goodness that Radiohead didn't take the route you suggest, the last thing we need is another Coldplay album
9. I suddenly feel quite old
10.
Are there actually any figures that support this? The fact is that the majority of artists making a living (or more) out of live performances are the ones who built up a following out of the old model where record sales supported gigs. It's building an audience that will go to gigs in the first place under the current model that is the sticking point for new artists.
Great point, and one completely missed by most.
11. I thought this was some sort of fencing debacle
12. Fender 9050's, cost me about £18, good strings.
13. Borrowed on of those ridiculous BC Rich funny shaped things a while back at a practice. Unfortunately it didn't have a strap...you can't sit down and play one of those things without it causing pain to some part of your thigh.
14. The most expensive bass I've ever played was about £800 I think. The most expensive bass I've ever owned is the Yamaha I've just bought...I won't be buying anything more expensive than that, I don't see the need, great instrument.
15. I've only ever played/owned a Rockbass Corvette. Great bass in so many ways, I just couldn't get on with the neck...way to deep for me, like a baseball bat. Also, I didn't like the way it sat on the strap, the neck seemed to be an awfully long way off. All of which seemed odd to me as so many people refer to the good ergonomics of these basses. To me good ergonomics is about making things easy to use...the bass I owned definitely wasn't easy to use.
16. Every second Tuesday of the month, unless there's a Q in the month and then it's on a Friday...
17. Bit of a mute point...
18. ...and on that note...
19. Clarky, you seem awfully knowledgeable about hair removal and lipstick. :/
20.
Exactly I'm surprised you even noticed the cab
21. Went well in the end. A fellow bass player was asked last minute to do the sound (as he has a PA big enough for the event). We heard everything, probably the best onstage sound I've had in a long time. It didn't rain...thank goodness. The stage was small so the part set up kit was built around the drummer. We got on really quick, didn't bother with a proper soundcheck...sound guy did set levels for the kit, however, we started our opening song and as all seemed well we didn't stop. Had a good response from the audience....overall, very happy. EDIT: forgot to add, I didn't take the new bass, just in case of mishap
