Is there a special technique? Something I'm doing wrong? Particular fingering that should be used?
Just keep practicing it over and over. There's a song I play with a band (originals) that's got a similar pattern to that and has a fast fill at the end. I've been playing it for a while now and it's a sod not to either get sympathetic ringing from the open strings or accidentally hit a string on the 'way back up' as it were. -
How important is it to know all the lyrics to covers
Marvin replied to bonzodog's topic in General Discussion
Mistakes are fine...can't be arsed to get it right...I've left bands because of this attitude -
Taking it back will be your safest bet. P basses are a big pita for this, which is why I go for basses that have properly shielded basses with hum cancelling pups Btw, even shielding all the cavities might not fix 'noise'. But I agree with Ou7shined that it sounds like a grounding issue.

Mine should be with me on Monday. I could have had it tomorrow...but no one's home
Haha, I really should sell some of my basses first but you don't know how tempted I am to ask my local PMT to order one in for me in black. Must resist... as I need new glasses too and someone mentioned that they're a little more important than a new bass, or summat like that.
I've got to tax the car the end of the month

Best way to tell the wife..... ' I've just bought a new bass !'

I've just ordered a new bass and the wife was sat next to me whilst proceeding with the transaction...no problems whatsoever. She was actively encouraging me...she's mad I tell you -
RIGHT! I couldn't wait, I've just pulled the trigger on one of these. Hopefully be with me sooooooon!!!

Do you (can you) count 1, 2, 3, 4 per bar while playing?
Marvin replied to tedmanzie's topic in General Discussion
Not a chance, not while playing. I either get it, or I don't...it's not like I'm a women and can multi task, like :/ -
Stop it! Stop it! I ain't got the cash yet

A Yamaha TRBX504 and an Ampeg SVT3 Pro (or whatever it is) I can probably afford the Yamaha, not the Ampeg though

Should we be in bands for money, or for enjoyment?
Marvin replied to thebrig's topic in General Discussion
I'm not into joining any band just to get gigs. I like to be well-rehearsed, know what I'm going to be doing and try to play to the best of my ability. I expect everyone else in the band to do the same and be available for a weekly rehearsal at least, unless we're gigging three times a week. And the band is likely to stay together long enough to be successful if everyone gets on. But on the other hand I'm not into rehearsal or gigging as a social event, or as an excuse for a piss-up or a toking session. I don't think I take it too seriously either (it has to be fun), but there is a balance to be struck. Even if you're in an amateur band, there's no reason why you can't do things in a professional way.
this -
My band practices in an small outbuilding at our drummer's Aunt's place. It's single skin brick and is bloody freezing in winter The other band, the singer has quite a large house, so we practice in one of the small ground floor rooms that struggles to find a purpose...benefit is is that the drummer has an electric kit and there are no neighbours on that side of the house.

My wife is almost bullying me into buying a new bass -

My premise is simple. Whether I'm enjoy playing what my band are doing or not, if someone expects, or is making money out of my band's performance then I expect to be paid. -
I don't look at the 'GIGS' forum at all, I gave up with it. None of the gigs are anywhere near where I live so... Also the only BCer I know who lives near me is friends with me on FB so will know about any of my gigs (although as Dave is always gigging he'd never make it anyway) and he invites me to his gigs. Basically you all gig too far away
Just imagine how much less problems you'd have moving something which sounds as good and weighs half as much I suppose if you needed to man up you could always carry the PA in instead...
I've got no problems moving it around, it sounds great and cost me peanuts

An electronics engineer (an authorised service engineer for the likes of Yamaha and Ampeg) explained to me the difference between digital, solid state and valve...and it made complete sense why people say class D is good but just lacks something. Suffice to say I won't be buying one in a hurry. He also explained why they can be unreliable. Just to add, I'm probably one of the weediest, skinniest blokes on earth and I've also got a bad back due to work. However, I don't have any problems moving my Ampeg cab around, it weighs over 35kg. COME ON YOU LOT, MAN UP!!!!!

Our guitarist stepped in to do a solo set at the beginning, we did our set and the other remaining band fulfilled the rest of the night. Audience were happy and we got paid. I'd hope to think my bands wouldn't be as thoughtless as to leave others in the lurch. And thanks to ya all. EDIT: Forgot to add, it's the first time I used the Ampeg I bought from Rasta on here at a gig...sounded truly fantastic, especially with the GK head I bought from DaveVader

Cheers. Unfortunately we've only got about 30mins of material. It's our drummer I feel sorry for. He organised it and it was his other band that were supposed to headline ( and his mates were in the other band that pulled out)...so it's him who's been mucked about by people he should have been able to trust.

I have a gig...well, I think I do...tomorrow night. It's the first time my new covers band play live. It's only a small support slot, we're first on. Initially there were four bands including us. Then at the beginning of the week the headline act pulled out. Then at about 4 this afternoon the next band pulled out. It's put the whole night in question. We were just there as an add on really, initially we weren't even supposed to be playing. But all that aside it's the sort of don't give a crap about others some people have that gripes. Anyone else been stuffed by other bands?
