1.
I think he might have meant why are we replying to the thread mate.
Because you want to know and that's important to us godammit! Anyways. Do I count as semi-pro? We nearly always get paid something for gigs I count the once a week, 4 hour rehearsals as a lot. I rarely do any practicing at home. I hardly touch the bass unless we've got a new song or I need to get sorted or I'm working out a bassline for one I'm writing. This probably doesn't pass muster?
2. Not too shabby at all. I quite like that. I would hope the neck is a nice palm filler like my RV4 and not too jazz thin.
3. I like a bit of the Syd era stuff. Otherwise I'm pretty much with Paul Cook.
4. I went for Percy Heath. I've no idea who any of them are but he sounds like the sort of chap who likes a pint of mild and doing crosswords.
5. A Basschat gig no less. Low End Bee and Clauster's bands join forces to bring you some popular beat combo stylings. Should be a very entertaining night. Music from 8-11pm. See you there.
6. We always dressed up a tiny bit for gigs but nothing matching really. A fairly famous friend who changed his band from a peripheral act to a top 20 band back in the day by working on their image (amongst other things) told us it was time to look like a band instead of 3 individuals if we wanted to be taken seriously. Last Thursdays gig saw our (thankfullylow budget) look thrust on the public. You know what? We felt like a 'band' and had seperation from the audience in a good way. We played by far our best gig so far and the clobber definitely contributed to that. Only some very poor quality pics at this one. Our proper photographer will be snapping at our gig on 10th March so I'll post some up then. I'm really pleased we all bought in and agreed to this.
7.
Just got home from using it live again. Best bit of bass equipment I've ever owned.
Have you had to go DI yet Wayne? Mine's a squeeling pig through a desk.
8. Short set tomorrow. None of the songs uses FX. Just the TU2 in the bag. Feels good.
9. My black 78 Shergold Marathon. Had to go to fund a 68 Precision. I really liked that bass though
10. I've a TC Classic. It's plenty loud enough for me. It's not got the huge globs of volume that my Orange Terror has. But it's still very, very loud. I've not noticed a compression problem and even like a tiny smidge of the onboard one on. If my Terror had a half decent DI I wouldn't have bought it. But I'm very happy I did. It seems to suit my playing. Couldn't care less if it were called the TC450, TC232.5 or TC99flake. It does the job well.
11.
Having just quit my band, there is obviously a part of me that hopes that they will recognise (in searching for my replacement) how committed, flexible, team-minded and friendly I was. Truth is, though, my bass lines were very easy and even a DB player of modest ability should be able to replace me without much difficulty. Its the non-playing elements I think they will miss.
Got anything lined up Mr C? You can always reform Sensation=blue/grey...........
12. I play 100% pick. I put Wizards (thumpers) in my Precision. Fatter bass and zingier top end. More grind too. I like them a lot. Should be right up your strasse. I would think about fitting new pots and a jack at the same time. I wouldn't bother with a new bridge myself. I've got a bent bit of tin on one Precision and a badass II on the other. I swapped them to check once and it makes zero difference to my ears. Other people will disagree though and they do look chunky and cool. Oh and a black scratchplate always looks more tasteful to me on a sunbusrst P.
13. 2007 S1 Precision. Silly S1 switch in the bin. They do work on a Jazz though. I don't get along with a Jazz neck. I would like to maybe have a a Jazz with a Precision neck.
14.
...Unlike The Clash (has anyone actually LISTENED to 'Police and Thieves' ?
Love it. Love the Clash too. It's like jazz Bilbo. You either get it or you don't.
15. I've been loaded up in 10 minutes then taken an hour to find the amazing disappearing promoter for payment a couple of times.
16. Painful but neccessary watching for me. My poor old mum has advanced PD.
17. I do my stand up routinme. The other two need around a 10 second break to wipe sticks and guitar necks. Sweaty buggers.
18. Pretending to cioncentrate on some paperwork and listening to this on the ipod now,
19.
Quite envious of some of you. I can't remember the last time i did a gig that was more than 15 minutes from home. I know what you mean though as its a lovely time for reflection. Once home i find it impossible to go straight to bed no matter how late it is. Always seem to need an hour of wind down before i hit the sack.
I would love it to only be an hour to wind down. I've accepted sleep is going to be a long way off when I get home so I have a bottle of red waiting and an old black and white film recorded and ready to watch.
20. I can't have music on the radio at all on the way back. It's a lovely time if I'm happy with how the gig's gone.....
21. On the ipod while I'm pretending to complete a spreadsheet.
22.
Your school backed onto my school's playing fields. I worked it out through the Mikey Craig connection. He's a good mate of mine, but not through music. We played for the same sunday football team until 2003.
Ah. Sam Jetsonic went to your old school too. I'm very sorry for hiding halfbricks in your long jump sand pit. I trust you weren't injured?
23.
You must have gone to the same school (well, now part of a hospital) as me, Mike Craig was in my Technical Drawing class. There were others too, Glyn Leach was on bass on an album, Ian Mercer played bass on a professional album for a hit making singer - I'll think of her name in a minute.... And there's you and I! Clearly green blazers made good bass players.
Small world. I had to stuff that bloody green blazer in my Adidas bag for the first couple of years. It definitely wasn't the thing to wear on White City Estate!
24.
Did you have to wear a green blazer?
I did indeed. And yourself?
