Tomorrow I shall be reviving a thread on how to make a bass amplifier out of a Bush valve radio, a copy of Tit-Bits and a paraffin heater.

Fantastic band. Saw them a lot back when they started out. Youth is a great bass inspiration. I went to a party at their Ladbroke Grove flat once. No place for a 16 year old to be I can tell you

I've used one of those Bullet cables above for the last two gigs. I can't really notice any major tonal difference but getting about the stage without getting all tangled up and having my 4m lead turning into a 2m lead because it gets in a knot like usual is very liberating. If you patrol your territory on stage and make the odd invasion into the guitarists base camp like I do I'd recommend getting one. They look very retro chic too.

In my head an annoying 50s B movie spooky noise is what I'm after. I suppose I could go the synth route but it doesn't sound as much fun.

I'll have a listen at home later. I guess with modern recording all I need is a sound file to give to Mr Engineer......
-
Anyone play one? Anyone got one. I have a recording session coming up in the next few weeks and one of our songs needs a bit of theramin action.

Thanks for the heads up. Just down the road fron me. This could get expensive.

It only matters to music fans. To most of them we're the one with the big guitar who doesn't seem to do much. Anyway I have spliced the DNA of Mark King and Flea and am cloning the Fling army. In 18 years every band on the planet will be able to have the finest over/underated bass player known to man.

Wasn't Crystal Frets and Alistair a cartoon?

Nice, sweaty gig on Saturday at the Grey Horse in Kingston. Clauster's band (Run Leia Run) were good fun. Never have guessed it was their first gig in 9 months. Not a bad crowd at all and we played well and with vigour. Lovely warm up for our forthcoming big gigs. My suit needs a clean....
I was thinking the same. Just a list of bad venues with links to relevant threads. Keep the detail out of the blacklist thread itself.
Trouble is... I met a band last year who completely slated a venue we've played a few times something rotten. The venue has a few niggly faults but they're OK people and we had good experiences there and got a few quid out of it. The band were nice people too. I presume they got on each others wrong side or it was a bad day for one/both of them. Anyway. The experience described was a million miles away from what we've experienced there. If I hadn't played the place before and since I would have taken their word and missed out on a good gig. Sometimes it's subjective I guess? -
I worked in a retail and hire music shop in the late 70s (when I should really have been at school). My memories of the bass stock were little WEM combos, old and unloved Sound City stuff, HH, Marshall, Sunn, Ampeg and Acoustic. Acoustic was what all the pros seemed to be after around 1978. I progressed from a WEM westminster to a HH VS100 head matched with an 18" ex sound system bass bin. Truly shocking wooly sound. Everything weighed a ton. Even the little stuff.

One day......We're up for a trip to Nottingham if the planets are in the right configuration. We fancy playing outside the Metrolopis soon. Good gig. Nic's/Clauster's band Run Leia Run were very good. Mrs LEB enjoyed them a lot. Pics soon.

I quite like not being a biker anymore sometimes so I don't have to hear people trying to say Doo-ka-tee like they're a mafia don. What's wrong with a bit of anglicising? Joocatty's fine for me.

Looking forward to this. We were our best ever at last months Croydon gig. Full on noisy guitar pop
They were downloading the lyrics...
Or playing World of Warcraft.... -
My guitarist has just got one. It does what the normal sized one like mine does. It's just more bijou. They work really well and don't have any hiss. But we both agreed it's very hard to get excited by a power supply though.....

Have good ones Mike and Nigel. I am sadly otherwise engaged. I have a gig the following night too which is partly to blame.

As for how Macdaddy pronounces Shuker......

Depressing things your bandmates say.

Previous band. "You have betrayed me. You've all stabbed me in the back and raped my music. I dislike you all intensely........I will still do any paying gigs you want me too though" -
As a Precisionista these would be my choices. White with a Black scratchplate Black with a Black scratchplate Red with a Black scratchplate Unfortunately the nicest one by far when I was looking was in frigging sunburst. I have at least toned down the awfulness by substituting a black scratchplate. Don't like the idea of satin black. Too fingerprinty.

Musical Magic - How often do you feel it with your bands?
Low End Bee replied to xilddx's topic in General Discussion
I still love rehearsing. When we get it just right and we're all playing well and in sync it's lovely. The good gigs get me going too. Last one was right up there and was exciting as undoing a bra strap as a teenager. Getting new songs arranged and sorted to the point were the band 'clicks' and you get a 'that's it!' moment are great too. I'm getting miles more musical excitement in my 'mature' years than I did when I was a nipper. Far less stupid distractions and hang ups now. -
I like this more than I liked their RV4s. Anyone here own/owned a Retrovibe? I couldn't bring myself to buy a Ric copy because I'd have felt like I was lying to myself. Were they any good?
Very good for the money. I spent another £100 on mine to get it right. Fret dress, new nut, all pots, jack and switch upgraded. I ditched one of the tone controls for a variable coil tap on the neck pickup which worked a treat. The pickups have loads of output and are really very nice. The finish and hardware is good too. I played it back to back with three 4001s in the shop I had the work done and it was nicer than all of them for a Precision player to play. The neck is very P and not very Ric. I've gigged it a fair few times. I just prefer a Precision as my 'go to' bass.

I lost interest after the Aural Sculpture. Although I thought they were a little patchy from the Raven onwards. I've got a few of the Hugh less albums but I don't play them often or find much to like on them. Live I've seen both the classic line up and the ones with replacements. To be honest even with new material it just felt like watching a tribute band without Hugh. Maybe it's just the teenager in me that's disappointed? I'll give this new one a spin but Cornwell was so integral to my Stranglers experience it will be tough to win me over,
