1. I couldn't agree more with st3_m3. Why are we so worried to name and shame. This is obviously a scam. Let the 'vintage' dealer come after Basschat if he likes. We know we are right here. Why should these unscrupulous people hide behind the fear of litigation. Let's hear who it is and stop messing around.
2. I acquire a suitably sized box usually from my local music store. Because I am a good customer I never have a bother in getting a box. As your Stingray is in it's own hardcase I wouldn't see the necessity to pack inside the case. The M'man cases are a good fit. I pack the space between the case and the inside of the box with bubble wrap/cardboard/newspaper so that the case cannot move inside the box. I have yet to have a problem. I'm surprised your Stingray is still here at this price. It's a great buy. We must all be short of cash!
3. Well done Stew. Great post. If I played Everybody Dance it would be so slow as to be unrecognisible! Jamerson and Edwards come at the very top of my list of favourite players as well. You certainly sound as if you are back where you belong. Anyway, sometimes a break does a bit of good. It enables us to return with renewed enthusiasm. All the best!
4. Maybe if you didn't insist on collection only you would broaden the number of people interested. Good luck with the sale. It's a great looking Stingray.
5.
From whence comes this news, any evidence? I only ask as I must have heard the same thing every 6 mths for the last 3 yrs!
There are already three threads in 'off topic' about this. There is also one thread on this forum about the same thing.
6. Don't worry Michael. It's always the worst time when you have just sold a bass. I sold a Stingray recently so I know how you feel. Just go and pick up one of those gorgeous precisions and move on!
7. There was this thread a few months ago. http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...mp;hl=gig+photo

Semis

I would recommend that, if possible, you try out a semi-acoustic bass before you buy. I am a precision player but recently bought a Gretsch G6072 which has a 34" scale. Although the same as the precision it felt as though I needed an extra inch or two on my left arm. This was all down to playing position. You have to tilt the semi neck up more to achieve the same feeling of length of neck. Once you have made the adjustment everything is fine.
9. I would also have to speak up for both branches in Glasgow. The lads have always given me good service. My main gripe is that their range of stock just isn't what it used to be. When I am ready to make a purchase I go to see what they have and am usually disappointed. I suspect that they have shifted the emphasis from one type of customer to another. It is some considerable time since I bought anything in Sound Control and I used to buy a lot from them.
10.
Tried a friend of mine's Musicman Sub the other day and woah! Does that thing have some balls. So I thought I'd buy a Musicman, thing is I can't decide which to buy. I'm intrigued by the Bongo and Sterling but wondered if anyone had preferences/thoughts on the matter. Are they all variations on a theme ??
I know I'm probably going to regret saying this but here goes anyway. Why not get a SUB. Although discontinued in 2006 there are still excellent used examples available. And a few new ones if you look hard enough. You are absolutely right - they do have balls and plenty of them. I have had a SUB for four years now and in that time I have had a Stingray that has come and gone. Why? - because I kept playing the SUB and the Stingray stayed in the case. You have tried the SUB and liked it. Only a suggestion but why not?
11. Two minutes actually. As burpster says this bass is built in Mexico. However, don't let that put you off. The classic series basses are getting great reviews and are superb value for the money. If it is USA that you want then you're not far off the price of a good used Highway 1.
12. I would definitely come to hear you. I really liked your stuff. Just don't get lashed before a gig.
13. Hi Jono. I stay In Ralston in the east end of the town with a big dog tied onto the Gretsch.
14.
That looks totally cool! What do all the knobs and switches do?
Thanks. The two switches on the top horn are a pickup selector and a three-way tone. The knob on the bottom horn is a master volume. The two knobs to the rear are for pickup volume. The switch behind them is a stand-by switch basically for switching the bass on and off.
15.
Lucky bugger. I'd like to hear that! scale?
34" And it sounds good as well!
16. I have just acquired this rather nice Gretsch G6072.
17. 'Touche' finn. BTW. The clock is great!
18.
The word 'tosspot' springs to mind.... And I don't mean Elvis....
The word 'child' comes to mind.
19. Always happy to agree to differ. Just don't step on my blue suede shoes.
20. Jazz = entertaining/exciting/worth listening to/enjoyable/worth a damn
21. BBC is right. Just let me add: Elvis performing = excitement. Jazz performance = ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ.
22. I emailed the seller last week to point out the S1 pic not fitting the description of a new American Standard. They said they would check it out. Nothing happened, draw your own conclusions! Whatever bass comes your way you have purchased an MIA P bass. Can't be bad eh?
23. I know what you mean Luke. I recently had the same feeling about my Stingray. I liked the bass. I played it now and again, but somehow my P basses are the ones that get constantly played. I put the Stingray in the 'for sale' section and it now resides with a fellow basschatter who absolutely loves it. We get kind of attached to our basses but sometimes they just have to be passd on to someone else. The mere fact that you have raised the question means that you are probably ready to sell. All the best with your decision.
