1. I'm with MB1 on this. I didn't buy my Markbass rig to be ruined by someone else. If you are serious about gigging then you should have your own gear. Don't expect to gig if you can't be bothered to properly equip yourself. If you can't afford an amp then wait until you can. If it's important enough to you then you will find ways to get an amp. If the promoter drones on about changeover time then tell him it doesn't take that long. If he can get the gig started when it's meant to start then it should all go smoothly. Bands shouldn't have to suffer for bad promotion and organisation. If the promoter still girns then don't play the gig. Honestly, it's high time that we got a bit more professional in all giging situations and that includes the local pub. The amateur night at the village hall syndrome has got to go!
2. First bass I played was my son's USA Fender Jazz. After I tinkered with the bass my guitars were quickly forgotten and sold. The first bass I owned was a Musicman SUB4 which belonged to my son and which I still have. Son and Jazz SUB4
3. Come on folks. This is a great buy. I just sold one of these locally for £250. I wasn't playing 5-string and the bass was surplus to requirements. This is a great sounding and playing bass and at £200 and in this condition it has to tempt somebody.
4. Where I rehearse in Glasgow there is an Ampeg 8X10 cab in every room. The amp is either an Ampeg or an Ashdown. Sometimes the Ashdown head is well played and nearing the end of it's useful life but the ampeg stuff is usually ok. My favourite is an Ampeg SVT2 which has a glorious row of six big bottles in the back. The privilege of using this gear comes at a price of £28 for a three hour session.
5. The new Fender moulded cases certainly aren't as good as the old oblong ones. I believe they're made in China, so enough said. I keep a Musicman Sub in a Hiscox and have to say that it is a great quality British built case. The Hiscox guys are very helpful and provided me with a couple of pads to take up the slack in my case as the SUB had slight movement. At the moment I'm looking for a period moulded Fender oblong case for my 1983 P-Bass. If anyone knows where I might get one let me know.
6. I saw John and Danny in Glasgow. It's maybe a wee bit better to understand him in Glasgow.
7. I am offering a Soundlab Hard Case for sale. This has only been used once to ship a Precision Bass to me and is therefore mark free and as new. The protective plastic on the logo has not been removed. Keys for the case are also included. I have tried a Precision, Jazz, and Stingray in the case to give an idea of what it will hold. I am asking £25.00 + £7.00 p&p. I can take paypal if required.
8. I have a brand new set of Warwick roundwound stainless steel strings 40 - 100. You can have them for £8 including p&p.
9. If I hadn't bought a Jazz recently I would certainly have been interested in this extremely nice example. Have a free bump and all the best with the sale.
10. Hi and welcome to you Rufus. This has been the best thread for some considerable time as I attain 50 years of age in a couple of months. Phrases like, '50 is the youth of old age' have been no help, but this thread has done the trick. Bring it on 50, I'm not alone!
11. I did have a subscription to BGM. It was a couple of months after my subscription ran out that I realised I wasn't getting it anymore. Obviously, they don't send out reminders or mine got lost in transit. Anyway, I took out a subscription to Bass Player and am happy with it. They also send timeous reminders.
12. Peavey is good honest gear. However, once you have used more expensive rigs it is difficult to be excited about the Peavey stuff.
13. Maybe your buyer wants to know these things to determine value. The current basswood instruments are cheaper than the alder ones. Just a suggestion as to why he may want to know.
14. You're right Homer. My Scout is actually my second one. The first had problems with the amp which were never satisfactorily resolved. The whole combo was replaced by the distributor with the newer version which has been fine. The moral of the tale then is that if you are buying second hand make sure that it is the newer version or that there have been no issues with the amp if it is the older version.
15. Just a wee cautionary note. I notice from the original post that portability on the tube was a requirement. I have a Walkabout Scout 112 and certainly would not regard it as being in any way suitable to cart around the tube. Great combo though and one I would thoroughly recommend.

Stingray GAS!

I also like the finish of the bass which is Natural Velvet. It is a satin finish as opposed to gloss. It was only available for a few years in the mid-nineties and so there aren't a great deal of them about.

Stingray GAS!

Ok. Just for the record.
18. Many thanks for that link Ken.
19. The screw hole on the back of the head is for a strap button. These were fitted on early J & P basses so that a more upright playing position could be adopted for those making the change from double basses to electric. Which leads me to ask; is your Jazz a reissue? Everything about your bass suggests that it's not a reissue unless it's been extensively modernised and why would somebody do that. I would follow the advice that you have already been given and make it into a nice playable bass. Good luck!
20.
LOL...still don't like it though
Even if you don't like Motown which is of course your right, I am sure that you would appreciate the bass playing of James Jamerson and Bob Babbitt. They are well worth a listen if you can blot out the rest of the song!
21. New site is improving all the time. All the best for the surgery man.
22. I know it's been mentioned many times before but 'Good Times' by Chic always does it for me. Bernard Edwards at his finest!
23. Welcome Andy from the home of the Paisley Pattern. Where would James Burton have been without it!
