Weight!!
Deja Vu...I was tempted not to reply as this has been done to death here before but I'm having a boring day at work!
Many apologies everyone. I didn't realise that this issue has been 'done to death'. Perhaps a moderator would delete or close the thread.

Weight!!

I don't have any axe to grind here but I have become interested in the whole "how heavy is your bass issue". Let me say straightaway that I can completely understand if someone has a shoulder problem then they will need to think very carefully about how heavy their bass is. However, I wonder if this weight thing is a current issue. I don't recall weight being such a large problem in the past as it is now. Basses/Guitars were just bought and played, end of story. Undoubtedly there were times when basses did weigh a lot e.g. late 70s Fenders - however that doesn't seem to put people off these basses with instruments commanding high prices. Perhaps we should ask how well does your bass balance? If the bass balances well on the strap then it should feel comfy enough to play a whole set without pain. Alternatively, we could make sure that we spend the money on a good quality strap for basses like the Comfort Strapp. It also seems too obvious to say that we should use straps suitable for basses and not guitar straps. I just raise the issue to see what others think as there is more to comfortable bass playing than just weight. Heavy doesn't necessarily mean uncomfortable.
3. I think we all know exactly what Dave meant. Perhaps it's time to let this thread die a death and then Gareth can start a new one to let us know the outcome of the sorry tale.
4.
When i got my Duck Dunn last year it had a Hanson in it and it had red and black wires. Dave's right about the cloth wires being Fralins. I did change both pups in my DJ5 but cant remeber the colours.
Thanks Dave. Much appreciated.
5.
I think it's awful that folks should be too scared to post anything on that Ernie's Balls forum slightly negative even with legitimate reason for fear of the repercussions from a pack of feral fanboys or how "the Führer" might react. Not a healthy way to do business, smacks a bit of Nazi Germany if you ask me...
Couldn't agree more. I wouldn't go as far as the analogy to Nazi Germany though. It's surely time for EBMM enthusiasts to start up a forum where reasoned debate and comment can be made without having to deal with censure and banning. EBMM instruments are great and enthusiasts deserve a forum where they can be free to criticise when that is warranted. A company that is scared of criticism seems to me to be a company that won't listen to their loyal customers! I sincerely you get a satisfactory solution to this problem Gareth. All the best!
6.
As far as pick-ups go I had this response from Lakland a few years ago when I had a DJ4. "The cloth covered wires are on the Lindy Fralin pickups. The black/white plastic coated wires are the Aeros. There have been times when the Aeros were hard to come by. We would sometimes install the Lindy Fralins if there was a pinch. We wouldn't go the other way however (Aeros for Fralins). We feel that the Fralins sound better than the Aeros." I believe that the Lakland pickup wires are red/green. Hope this helps.
Many thanks for the info.
7. I'm thinking of selling my Lakland DJ4 2007 Skyline Series. Someone may well ask where it was built and what make are the pickups. An enquiry to Lakland didn't help as Brian there said the pickups would be Aero or Fralin. He also said it should say on the headstock where it was built which it doesn't. I was hoping that someone here may be able to throw some light on the matter. If Happy Jack and Linus 27 see this post they may be able to help as they used to own the DJ4. Thanks in anticipation.
8. I know what you're saying Gareth but I would have thought it is the job of EBMM to ensure that you get a marvelous bass delivered to your door. After all, you ordered a new build and that is what you should have got. I think that you are bang on the money with your thoughts as to what has happened here and it's just not good enough. I sincerely hope you get a satisfactory outcome to the situation as you have been a good ambassador of EBMM basses. You deserve better!
9. The EBMM perfection machine starting to slip?
10. Working now. Very nice bass!
11. That's weird. I clicked on your photobucket link and it brought me right back here.
12. I'm 53 years old. I don't have the energy to 'make it'. I'm just happy to play and do a bit of regular gigging.
13. There's a rather nice one here:- http://classicandcoolguitars.co.uk/basses/ibanezroadsterbass.htm
14. Now you're confusing me. Have you got two of these?
15. Hey Gee! Have you noticed the post above your last one?
16. Is this definitely for sale only?
17.
Surely they're Mexican?
Is there an echo in here?
18. Are these two made in Mexico?
19. Lest the 'for sale basses' forum gets clogged with other issues perhaps this could be moved to 'general bass discussion'.
20.
I do have some issues with people who move in next door to a pub and then complain when it gets a bit noisy. If you live near a venue it's only to be expected that there will be some noise. I live near a social club that regularly has the back door open while music is being played, smokers who holler at the top of their voices all night, and customers who seem to like spending 20 minutes shouting goodbye and revving car engines & doing donuts in the car park. I wouldn't dream of complaining though - I knew the club was there when I moved in. Unfortunately, not all people are quite as tolerant as me.
I had no choice to live where I do as I am in a tied house. I am a tolerant person. However, when I have to work the next day I value my sleep. Excessive noise at 1am and sometimes 2am is just not acceptable.
21.
So, for the 8000000000th time on friday, the management at the venue we were playing (small pub, neighbours who like to complain a lot) asked us to turn down before we'd even made a sound, and then after the world's quietest soundcheck, asked us if we could still be quieter. Bearing in mind that this is the quietest band I've ever been in (synth-heavy 80s tribute, Duran Duran, Spandau, etc. etc.) I have rarely been left with so much as a ring in my last working ear after one of our sets. Made me chuckle again, as I pressed the DFA button on the desk and said "No worries, love, we'll go down another notch or two". Then, the guitarist and the drummer turned round to us and said "Shall we just ****ing go?" and intimated that they weren't prepared to put up with this crap, and we were too good for this gig anyway and so on and so on. Me and the singer were fairly clear that we were doing the damn gig, and needed the money, and had driven for about 2 hours to get here anyway. Guitar player was so sulky, he turned down for the whole 1st set to a completely inaudible level (despite me and the singer askig him between each song not to be a twat, he finally turned up for the 2nd set, after keyboard player had a word) which p*ssed me off even more. My view has always been that the person who is paying you to play in their venue can pretty much ask you to do anything (within reason) and you should smilingly agree and carry on. I can't be doing with the ego thing. Also I used to run a pub with problem neighbours, and had to try and keep the levels as low as possible, and if you don't remind most bands a good two or three times, they do tend to get louder, she's just doing her job. Anyone have an opposing view? Do you believe that as "the talent" you have a god given right to play as loud as you want wherever you like? Or like me, are you a firm believer in the DFA button and a kind smile and nod?
I would agree with all you say especially if you are being paid for the gig. I stay beside a venue and there is nothing worse then excessive noise in the wee small hours. The watchword here is 'excessive'. How loud do you need to be for your set to appreciated? I've often felt at many pub gigs that the level of volume was so unnecessary.
22. This has to be one of the bargains of the week! Great basses. USA made. Stingray sounds.
23. If your Jazz is definitely for sale then I'm afraid the forum rules state that you have to post a price. If however you are only looking for a trade then a price is not required.
