There’s not really a particular interface specifically for what you want to do, it’s probably more about how much of that do you want to do simultaneously, that then determines the I/O you need/want. e.g. Say you want to record a vocal and a guitar simultaneously, so you definitely want two separate inputs. If you then want to also record a synth, don’t automatically assume you need three inputs, the question is do you want/need to record that synth at the same time as the vocal and guitar? If not, then you still only need two inputs. As it happens, the Clarett 2Pre allows for 4 simultaneous inputs to be recorded, 2 of which can be any combination of Mic/Instrument/Line, and 2 are line inputs only. Similarly it has 4 outputs, so you could be feeding a stereo pair of studio monitors while also live re-amping two guitar parts out to an amp and recording back in (requiring two mic inputs). So you can see that already, if multiple inputs aren’t required simultaneously, something like the Clarett 2Pre is already quite versatile. That’s before you consider that it’s for an ADAT in port, which means you could expand it by another 8 channels via a separate channel strip (such as the Clarett Octopre). Latency is also a bit of a misnomer here, high latency is only really an issue if you’re recording and requiring to monitor that recording input via your DAW (ie if uou’re DI’ing your guitar/bass and require to hear a VST effect on its channel while you record). That’s usually fairly rare, and so direct monitoring (monitoring direct from the hardware input of the interface) will usually do the job. In this situation, system latency doesn’t effect you, and so you can just too out your session buffer size and allow your computer to process all the soft instruments you have without falling over. As such, a USB interface is usually more than enough for most people. Thunderbolt does allow for more latency ‘headroom’, but again, only really needed if you’re recording into a heavy session and require to monitor that recording channel via the DAW. Most commonly, people get all their audio recording done before their sessions get heavy with processing (i.e. the mixing phase), and so again, USB more than adequate. Also remember that latency is largely effected by your computer spec, have an appropriately spec’d computer, again, USB is more than enough. So, long story short, depending on what your I/O needs are, I think start looking at the Clarett 2Pre USB and go from there Si // Focusrite

Thanks to all involved! Finn and I enjoyed it very much for the short we were there (stopped by on way to take him to see Windsor Castle). But good job as he managed to win us something in the raffle 😁 Should be back next year, this time with Basses lol Cheers all Si

What’s the start time? Can’t easily see it anywhere. Cheers Si

All things being well, i’ll be there with Finn in tow, probably just for an hour or so, but he really wants to see all the Basses Si

It’s not something i’ve ever looked at I’m afraid. With regards to the compatibility with our stuff, as your interface has Midi connections (just re-read your post), it’s just finding an expression pedal with Midi out I would think. Sorry that’s not too helpful. I’ll ask around the office today. Si

Not yet 😂. Not until I find a P5 I want Si

Just a quick note of public thanks to Andy for rescuing the BB415: Having let the neck settle back with the body and under tension, I can report that we’re back up and running. While the bass is a cheaper stop-gap while I look for a nice P5, I don’t think it should be understated that Andy has restored this bass to being a solid, gig-ready instrument. Many thanks Si

2019 Gear Abstinence Challenge (Updated with 'rules')

Well it’s well documented (I think?!) that I hopped off the wagon with great gusto. Life events meant that I have leaned somewhat on gear acquisition for some well earned happiness (that’s dramatic, all is fine....generally). As such, i’m well and truly out, but I did 6 months, so it was a good little exercise Si -
It actually is!! 🤣

We’ll know Monday Tuesday night 😂 Si

We await the updates over the next few listens 😉. It’s a helluva grower I think! Si

SOLD Hi all, This is a full, built-to-order, US Lakland (quarter-sawn neck etc), but one that sits in their 'Classic' line, so less finish options available when ordering, and Hipshot Ultralights instead of the full size 'vintage' Hipshots (a plus in some peoples eyes). Basic spec is: - Alder body - 2-tone sunburst - Maple neck - Rosewood fingerboard - Maple face dots - La Bella 760FS flatwound strings fitted from factory by my request SOLD It's actually fantastic, and can be heard on 'Illusive Love' & 'Counting' from Jocee's latest EP (headphones/decent speakers needed): https://open.spotify.com/album/0AmIDyMB21QYP78FX3IHd5?si=J0CrwnGmRFu9eERGEjKJYg It's largely an early 60's spec neck, so the 1.75" nut, pretty shallow neck, super comfortable. The pickup is pretty meaty, no vintage low output pickup here, but excellent growly P tones. The bass is in 'as new' condition and comes with the black Lakland hardcase. Weight, according to the digital scales at work is 8.86lbs (photo below), however while I've no reason to doubt those scales (they're used in a commercial situation), I think the bass has a light neck, therefore giving the body a slightly 'heavier' feel, perhaps around 9lbs. There's zero neck dive and balances beautifully. I would prefer collection from Hemel, High Wycombe or maybe London. However, we can discuss postage. SOLD Photos from it's construction:

Honesty and trust not important these days ?

No, there wasn’t any harm done, you just didn’t buy a bass guitar......perspective is key! With respect. Si -

I think this reaction is a bit strong to be honest, I completely understand it’s frustrating, but getting so heated about ‘honour’ and a ‘code of ethics’?! The member probably just thought that they were doing something rash and suddenly wanted to keep the bass, no harm no foul, it happens. If it were me, i’d be understandably sad that I wasn’t getting it, but probably just say “I don’t blame you, looks like a cracker, let me know if you decide to sell again”. That way you’re more likely to get a second shot at it than by somewhat outing them on the forums! 1st world problems and all that. Si- 95 replies

Magnus is a lovely man, and an excellent player (as you've heard), so definitely check him and Kala at the show I think I'll be there on the Saturday with my 3yr old in tow! Si

Same thing applies though, if the video is potentially seen by clients, they want to see what you'll be like on a gig Si

Are you drunk?? 😂 I jest, each to their own of course, it's purely that I think 10,000 Days is as impressive as any of their records. The more I listen to Fear Inoculum, the more I think it's an incredibly good body of work, and it's always funny to me that people use songs like The Grudge as some sort of benchmark for their more refined moments (it's been referenced a couple of times in the thread I think, not just above)......it's 8 and a half minutes long haha. Also a quick note on Hooker with a Pe nis & Prison Sex......they were 23 and 26 years ago respectively, not sure many artists are making the same art they did that long ago.....there seems to be this idea of 'massive' tracks being short tracks, Pneuma and 7empest are 'massive' tracks.....they're just not short lol. I also see this album in the same way that I see the Klon pedal (for those aware of how it's creator views the hilarity of the pedals legacy), this album has never been touted as some swan song masterpiece by the band, they haven't waited for 13 years on purpose to then consciously drop what they describe as they best album ever.....that's all on the fans building up that narrative. The band have just lived their lives, and come back to do what they do when they've had the opportunity, they've written something that sounds like them now and makes them happy. The biggest criticism seems to be that 'it sounds like Tool, but there are no short bangers on it'.....I imagine that's what they were aiming for As always, each to their own, it's fun to talk. Si
