Shipping guitars to USA for a show - CITES/ MIC??
Sibob replied to TOB's topic in General Discussion
Very limited knowledge here, but you’re not shipping them out as commercial concerns, you’re bringing them home again. From memory, there were exceptions introduced for touring musicians who were obviously traveling internationally with such instruments, I imagine there are similar exceptions for this kind of activity. Filthy by Justin Timberlake Si

Difficult one, I absolutely agree that if someone has IP to protect, fair play. However, it does ultimately come across as a big corporate threat. As has been said, invest money in building better versions of those guitar designs than everyone else, and you won’t have to make these threats. Make the threat before you’ve upped your game, and it just looks like you’re throwing your weight around before paying dues back to the customer. Si

I found that I had to turn the tone down less with the La Bella's than I did with the Chromes I had on previously. Essentially, the La Bella's gave me a tone similar to my 5 year old Chromes. That probably doesn't sound great to some ("OMFG old strings are dead strings"), but actually it's what I want from flats, a played-in thumpy vibe from the outset. They're the best IMO Si

SOLD This is somewhat of a feeler, only from the perspective that I reserve the right to withdraw this any point. It's a great bass, and whilst I want the funds to use for another Lakland.....I'm still not 100% sure I want rid of it. This is an excellent condition (mint maybe, need to check it over fully late), 2016 Lakland Skyline 55-01, "But that's only £95 cheaper than a new one" I hear you cry, well yes but this bass has upgraded pickups and electronics. It's been fitted with US Bartolini Dual Coils and a 3 band, active/passive, Bartolini NTMB. That's around £250 worth of extras. Skylines typically come with no case, you might get lucky and shop give you a simple bag to get it home in, but this comes with a simple Gator hardcase (pics later). Weight comes in at approx 9lbs 7oz on my kitchen scales. Balances beautifully. 35” with 19mm spacing Cash preferred, may consider a Lakland DJ5 in trade. Any questions, just ask This is for sale only in the UK, as I believe it's the last of the Indian Rosewood models before CITES took hold of it. It's currently strung with La Bella Gold White Nylon Tapewounds It can be heard recorded here: Here: And a quick little summitsummit here: Si

The 760FL or 760FS are the ones! Si

La Bella 760 flats, then you’ll realise you’ll want them on both basses 😄 Si

That's just a bad KPI. KPI's are usually set by managers, therefore the manager in that example is a load of rowlocks, not the concept of KPI's Si

I mean, this is a little like sounding surprised about “oh that Lakland is uncannily like a Fender” lol, the MW shape widely known about, there’s no unearthed conspiracy here Si
-
If you want to look through 1000 CV’s as opposed to 20....sure 😂 Si

I thought it all sounded pretty reasonable, but then I work in that sphere. It’s a multi-faceted job (not business speak, just a word), likely with a relatively substantial wage, so if you’re seriously applying, you’ll know your worth and that you’ll be expected to demonstrate why they should pay that. If I went for another, it would be a 5 string MW2 or Sacramento with two Serek Singles I think. Si
-
Looks lush! Love that fingerboard! Si

For sure, definitely scratches my Gibson itch without needing to buy a Gibson lol Jake has some very Serek shapes in the Sacramento, MW2 & Armitage, as well as another other 'tribute' shape in the Lincoln. Si
-
Really good guy too, really knows what he's doing! This Expat is excellent, I'd like a US model, but that's a few years down the line methinks I look forward to seeing the MW2 in the Serek thread later maybe Si

Exactly right! That's some full-fat enabling right there Ordered direct from Jake. He had built it as a rare stock item and I snuck in there as it was luckily my perfect spec, so managed to get around the built-time. There are some UK shops who intermittently get them in stock, Bass Gallery & Bass Direct, but they pretty much sell as soon as they hit the shop. I know Paul's Bass Matters has a Midwestern II currently in stock: https://www.bassmatters.nl/en/1696/Serek-Midwestern-2 Si

They're really very cool, have a chat with Jake for sure! Si
-
I mean they're utterly different, I've been playing the Serek more, but I've got a run of shows coming up that will have the Elrick on. Both are brilliant Si

My Serek Midwestern is here and just really bloody brilliant. I already have a Fender Mustang, so I’m not exactly new to the shortscale thing, but this Midwestern is a whole new ball game. It arrived at 11am and I was able to take it to a gig that same day, and it nailed it, so much fun to play. It also sounds fantastic, I specifically wanted the B90 pickup, I figure that it’s part of the Serek sound and brand, the various other pickup options are great, but this B90 is the one! Mine has the dummy coil, which is great for recording, but actually live, the standard wiring is perfectly fine. Build quality is excellent, as you’d expect, and even though the build is largely Walnut, it’s still very comfortably lightweight. All in all, i’m Very happy and couldn’t recommend Jake (Serek) enough as a luthier! Cheers Si

Well after spectacularly failing my gear abstinence challenge (well I managed 5 months), I went strong and wrong: Serek Midwestern - Amazingly fun shortscale, seriously, one of the most fun basses I’ve ever played, sounds amazing, incredibly comfortable, and top-level build quality : Elrick Expat Evolution 5 - Yes it’s one of the ‘cheaper’ standard models, but it really is boutique, incredible 5 string with all the quality US spec appointments, but without the frills, super solid bass: It’s been a mildly tough start to the year personally, and so I thought I’d treat myself. I’ve wanted builds from both brands for a while, and so with my Lakland basses, I’ve now completed my ‘Chicago Triumvirate’ (Lakland, Serek and Elrick are all built....granted the Expats are Czech built, but finished etc in the Windy City). I much prefer a beefier C, otherwise it feels too flimsy and suffers tonally imo. Si

On my set, 50, 65, 85, 105 and the B is 135 Si

I have a B-G set on my Lakland 5 string, but they’re the 50-130 (so a little lighter than your proposed gauge). They don’t actually feel as heavy as the gauge suggests, they’re a fairly soft string (on account of them being tape-wounds), and they’re really low tension, so again, very easy to play. Si
