£50 an hour?? Nice to see he's giving back to the bass playing community........at Berklee Prices!! I kinda like what she's doing, amazing technique, and some parts of the song were pretty cool (I like some plinky plonky noise). But am definitly getting the 'Berklee' vibe from the others. I think its the law that all Berklee bass players play Fodera or Sadowsky isn't it? lol The most interesting thing he does, to my ears, is from 6:40 - 8:00, but thats just because the bass sound is cool! It just sounds like million miles an hour solo'ing, with the only really nice melody from him at 2:54 or so through to 3:00!. But then i'm not a massive fusion-fast-as-f*ck-unison-lines, he grooves well, but then so do a lot of people. Plays in ways that I will only dream of playing, but then, it doesn't do anything for me But I do like her, she's a bit wacky Si

Looks nice, who are you thinking of having it built by, it looks like a Shuker but with a longer bottom horn! I really don't like the bass-clef inlays and ramp decal, way too (IMO) geeky and obvious for my liking! And realistically I don't think that headstock is big enough for 4 tuners, let alone 5 or 6 lol But all these things start a little rough around the edges, if it gets made, it will no doubt be a monster! See I kinda like the challenge of playing things on a 4, I think i'm part of the Jeff Berlin school when it comes to that! Plus I feel that I can lay into them a bit more, easier to throw about to my mind. Having said that, I definitly see the application of 5 strings, I've used them (and am probably going to buy one) just for dep gigs whereby the singer turns up 10mins before a gig and changes all the keys, i'm an alright player but transposing on the fly stresses me out lol. So I think my conclusion is, 4 strings are where I'm at, they're on the same wave-length as me, I love playing 4's and I have more fun doing so. 5's are a tool to me, they are there to do a job. I know that seems like an odd conclusion, and I can't really explain it, but hey, that's the human brain huh! Si

I think playing tunes in a different position on a five string just for the sake of it is kind of missing the point! Yes it does allow you to open up the fretboard somewhat, but a low G on the B string will sound a lot different to a G on the E string. Much the same as on a 4 string, if I want a 'dubbier' sounding 'D' for example as opposed to a D with more clarity, I'll play it on the E string rather than the A, depends what the song needs! A 5 string (and any ERB) allows you more sonic options with regards to timbre of notes, not just positions and number of notes. Si

Regarding the 'Thud', Is it actually that whilst resting your thumb on a string, you're pushing it down so it makes contact on the pole-pieces of the pickup. Obviously one being a magnet and one being metal gives you a fairly noticeable thud through your amp! Si

FSOF / Senses Fail show added @ Islington Academy Si

So...I know this hasn't been updated in a while! But yesterday, the 5th of March 2009, we finished Mastering the album! It sounds PHAAAAAAT, and i'm happy to say we didn't smack it too hard, it's definitly no Death Magnetic lol. A beautiful line trodden between volume and dynamic, and as a band we LOOOVE dynamics . We mastered with Justin Hill of WellerHill (ex Sikth) who really knows what he's doing and is safe as fudge. Here's a final track listing in order: 1- Through The Exterior 2- Siberia (interlude piece) 3- Day Of The Collapse 4- Wire Forms 5- This Is A Fraud 6- Crosses 7- The Saviour 8- Expert In Trickery 9- Atlantic 10- Sing Sing Ain't My Style 11- 444 (interlude piece) 12- By Virtue Run time: 41:25 A couple of labels are interested so everyone keep their fingers crossed. Now we have to get on with the artwork......any budding artists want a go?? Si

Yeah I already tried opening up an older project that worked!! What is bizarre is that the project that I had open was working, messing about with some guitar amp plugins, but then Cubase suddenly didn't want to know. Grrr Si

See this is why I want to get my own little Logic/Macbook setup! I've used a Focusrite pre into Cubase SX for about a year now for any little recording projects I've had on! It's been alright, but tonight it just stopped working..... ...the preamp is registering the guitar input, but the signal is nowhere to be seen in Cubase!!! It was fine one minute, then gone another!! Whats the point....just work all the time!! HMmm Any ideas? Si

Depends how hot the output of the pickups is on their own! For example, most Dimarzio pickups for pretty lary as passive-run pickups go, whereas Bartolinis are pretty weak without a preamp. I think your particular situation will just have to be trial-and-error! Good luck! Si
