1. See I kinda like the challenge of playing things on a 4, I think i'm part of the Jeff Berlin school when it comes to that! Plus I feel that I can lay into them a bit more, easier to throw about to my mind. Having said that, I definitly see the application of 5 strings, I've used them (and am probably going to buy one) just for dep gigs whereby the singer turns up 10mins before a gig and changes all the keys, i'm an alright player but transposing on the fly stresses me out lol. So I think my conclusion is, 4 strings are where I'm at, they're on the same wave-length as me, I love playing 4's and I have more fun doing so. 5's are a tool to me, they are there to do a job. I know that seems like an odd conclusion, and I can't really explain it, but hey, that's the human brain huh! Si
2. Yeah I'm still trying to decide! Finnbass might get some new members if not haha! Si
3. Oh I really do hope it's a joke! Either that or the purchasers in question know whats good for them and leave the forum as it is! Si
4. Yeah stunning bass! And from my year of birth! lol Have a bump! Si
5. I think playing tunes in a different position on a five string just for the sake of it is kind of missing the point! Yes it does allow you to open up the fretboard somewhat, but a low G on the B string will sound a lot different to a G on the E string. Much the same as on a 4 string, if I want a 'dubbier' sounding 'D' for example as opposed to a D with more clarity, I'll play it on the E string rather than the A, depends what the song needs! A 5 string (and any ERB) allows you more sonic options with regards to timbre of notes, not just positions and number of notes. Si
6. Regarding the 'Thud', Is it actually that whilst resting your thumb on a string, you're pushing it down so it makes contact on the pole-pieces of the pickup. Obviously one being a magnet and one being metal gives you a fairly noticeable thud through your amp! Si
7. Very interested, but funds won't stretch until next months (april) payday I'll Pm in a sec anyway! Si
8. It's probably just the light....but I can't see a logo on the headstock!? Si
9. FSOF / Senses Fail show added @ Islington Academy Si
10. So...I know this hasn't been updated in a while! But yesterday, the 5th of March 2009, we finished Mastering the album! It sounds PHAAAAAAT, and i'm happy to say we didn't smack it too hard, it's definitly no Death Magnetic lol. A beautiful line trodden between volume and dynamic, and as a band we LOOOVE dynamics . We mastered with Justin Hill of WellerHill (ex Sikth) who really knows what he's doing and is safe as fudge. Here's a final track listing in order: 1- Through The Exterior 2- Siberia (interlude piece) 3- Day Of The Collapse 4- Wire Forms 5- This Is A Fraud 6- Crosses 7- The Saviour 8- Expert In Trickery 9- Atlantic 10- Sing Sing Ain't My Style 11- 444 (interlude piece) 12- By Virtue Run time: 41:25 A couple of labels are interested so everyone keep their fingers crossed. Now we have to get on with the artwork......any budding artists want a go?? Si
11. Thanks for your input (no pun intended) guys! Think it just turned out to be a dodgy phono cable between the Focusrite and the computer! Seems ok now! Si
12. Yeah I already tried opening up an older project that worked!! What is bizarre is that the project that I had open was working, messing about with some guitar amp plugins, but then Cubase suddenly didn't want to know. Grrr Si
13. See this is why I want to get my own little Logic/Macbook setup! I've used a Focusrite pre into Cubase SX for about a year now for any little recording projects I've had on! It's been alright, but tonight it just stopped working..... ...the preamp is registering the guitar input, but the signal is nowhere to be seen in Cubase!!! It was fine one minute, then gone another!! Whats the point....just work all the time!! HMmm Any ideas? Si
14. Depends how hot the output of the pickups is on their own! For example, most Dimarzio pickups for pretty lary as passive-run pickups go, whereas Bartolinis are pretty weak without a preamp. I think your particular situation will just have to be trial-and-error! Good luck! Si
15. I'd perhaps just DI the bass for some girth and put a 58 in the kickdrum and maybe even in front of the guitar amp, just to spread the sound out a bit, as well as your vox and keys obviously. Whenever we've played at places with their own PA, we'll often just set ours up completely and use the venues for reinforcement (usually because it's a big place, MK venue has an in-house Bose setup...yum). But then we're all geared up with drum mics and subs etc Good luck mate Si
16. Truely one of the most overrated bands in the world....bar none! IMHO Didn't see the Ross program, but that Sexy Boots song is AWFUL, an absolute mess! Vertigo was alright, but I've heard other people play it much better than they do! Si
17. Ok cool! Cheers for the input guys! I guess the plastic macbooks will be a bit cheaper now that they've been superceded! Si
18. Ok so I think i've had a mate source me Logic Studio for free (she's "in the industry"), so thats cool! But yeah, Firewire.....hmmmm...I can see why it's kinda necessary for recording use, but i'm still a little bit anxious about the plastic macs being a bit 'flimsy'?! Si
19. Check out: http://freemusicsoftware.org/category/free.../amp-simulators for some freeware guitar amp simulators! Some look a bit amateur, but theres a couple at the bottom, namely Freeamp & Guitar Suite that look pretty hefty. I've downloaded them, but haven't tried them yet, so we'll see! Si
20. I'm wanting to upgrade the recording system i'm using, and think that this would be a great way to go. I like Logic and the idea of working on ideas on the fly! I'm thinking just the base macbook model is fine for what I want to do, although apparently the new aluminium ones are a lot sturdier than the older plastic ones...stands to reason! Anyone have any advice? Cheers Si
21.
Theirs is scabby by comparison
haha, yes, but it hasn't had the benifit of a nice new paint job like yours Si
22. I'll stick to perving over the original '71 on The Gallery's website for £1000 off bump though innit! Si
