  1. Oh those horrible pickup changes on the '66......poor thing 😑 Well, at least you like it haha. Si
  2. 🙄 Come on, really? Si
  3. That sounds more like an actual problem rather than the inherent ‘issue’ of blend pots. As far as I understand it, the blend pot is essentially adding in 2 extra volumes pots, as such, more resistance, therefore mildly reduced top end. Si
  4. Did you notice much top end loss? Seems to be the fallout from a blend on a passive bass due to loading (same issue with actives but you can boost highs to correct obviously). Si
  5. For a modern Fender, this looks lush! Really lovely dark fingerboard! Si
  6. Title reminded me of this banger (no pun intended): Si
  7. You probably also don't have a lot of leeway with regards to your setup compared to a higher-tension situation. By that I mean that a shortscale is low tension by nature due to the scale length, combined with low tension strings. Compounded by a potential issue with the bridge/saddle maybe not being at its optimum. Ultimately it seems like it could be a few things that you'll need to experiment with, as opposed to it being the strings alone. Si
  8. I think the piece is incredibly musical, there is harmonic complexity there, the chord progression is great, everything flows wonderfully from a musical point of view etc etc. If anything it’s a shame it isn’t longer, but then that’s the nature of carving out a career in music nowadays (as mentioned earlier). Reminds me of Polyphia. Regardless, without taking anything away from Charles (he’s way more technically able than I’ll ever be), I’d like to know how it was recorded. Whether it’s a single take or a multi-take piece. I suspect the latter, which somewhat dulls the ‘most technically able bassist on the planet’ hyperbole, but doesn’t take anything away from the fact is a wonderfully musical piece. Si
  9. I really loved my UK built ABM EVO2 500, it did a lot of gigs and touring with me. But when I started doing gigs where carrying a spare was somewhat necessary, it just became too big and heavy for what it was. I WISH Ashdown would invest in developing the ABM preamp into a 'mini' form factor. A UK built ABM Mini 500 would be something I'd hop straight on (if it sounded as good as the old ABM's of course). As it stands though, my next upgrade from my trusty Little Mark's 2's will likely be a Trickfish Bullhead Mini. Si
  10. I've heard these recorded and live a few times and they genuinely sound fantastic! Si
  11. Yeah I wouldn't be able to put up with that haha. Probably down to the colour of the wood underneath, but to the point that it looks like it's had one or two coats less than the other 2/3rds of the bass, not cool. I'd be sending that back if it were me. Cheap is cheap (comparatively speaking), but that's just bad QC in my opinion. Si
  12. Always up for depping should you find yourself short on various gigs I'm used to not getting a rehearsal too haha. Si
  13. There are loads of Stingrays on Bass Bros at the moment. Just buy one from there! Quite a few on here too. Si
  14. Updated family settee photo: L-R: Lakland US 44-PJ, 1971 Fender Precision, Serek Midwestern, Lakland 55-01, Elrick NJS5 Si
  15. That's a nice bass, but I just cannot, and never have been able to, get past the headstocks. They are genuinely my most hated headstock in all of bassdom (and there are some strange ones). Which is a shame, because I'm sure they're great basses. Si
  16. Very kind. I'm still super happy with the spec. Think I pretty much nailed it, and Lakland built the hell out of it Si
  17. Small update, but added the nicer plastic knobs from the xx-02/xx-94 models to my 55-01 a while ago. A bit lighter compared to the metal barrel knobs, and makes the bass look a 'little more Lakland' in my opinion haha. Flanked by my custom US 44-PJ (as I'm now calling it). Si
  18. Very nice indeed! I really really want another 44-64, but not enamoured with a lot of the Skyline specs/colours/weights that (rarely) come up for sale. So will likely be a custom US order at some point when times are a bit easier. Si
  19. I don’t know if it’s been discussed in these 4 pages…but I wonder if the ‘project’ Rob mentions is an overseas franchising of the brand?! Would need to be quality, but why not keep some money coming in by licensing out what you’ve spent so long building up. Si
  20. Not heard of that dealer before! Shall keep an eye on the site! Si
  21. I’m exactly the same! What’s a given sig bass based on? I want that haha Si
  22. This is so funny. So many responses here which are essentially “I don’t like a band which proves NO-ONE else has heard of them”. I’m not even young anymore (40 next year because you care), but I at least understand that my tastes do not dictate what is popular 😂. Come on, y’all are better than this surely? I’ll state it again just for those at the back. Vulfpeck have 1.3million different people listening to their songs on a monthly basis, JUST on Spotify, ignoring all other platforms. No that’s not as much as Peter Gabriel, who’s probably been around for, what? 40 years longer probably?! But it is half a million more people than King Crimson. So it’s official that KC are no longer ‘legendary’. Si
