1. I've a natural maple CIJ 70s P it's a quality bass Can't recall seeing a sunburst 70s one for sale , I'm sure they are out there though , but rare beast id assume
2. I own a few Ps and Ray and a J , along with a few other types of bass They all do the same thing . Except for 1 P bass which I have really old flats on which can't get any sustain As someone said above , unless you have any issues than mean a slimmer neck suits you better there is no reason to get a J over your current bass at this stage , of course except if you have the money and just really want one.
3. I purchased a bass from France without any issues on here Also purchased a bass from another euro country , 1 min Skype with the owner told me he was a genuine guy with knowledge of all things bass As long as there's feedback or some sort of connection im comfortable up to a certain amount All my current basses are 2nd hand at least
4. For Sale Fender PB62RI. Good condition , well set up , never been used to play covers on.
5. Id always suggest playing a good song that you are very comfortable with that really suits every member of the band , all be it in a subtle way Dont save all the best for last , but hit them with something that sounds right and leaves no room for any doubt your worth walking toward
6.
It's a wonderful bass IMHO, I own one (black pearl burst) ans I love it ! There are 3 of them for sale on a famous 2nd hand website here in France : 1500, 1250 and 850€ respectively. The last one doesn't have the original bridge and pickups.
Can you share a link please
7. Great song , but irresponsible use of a staircase
8.
10 times out of 10 the bands that think they're playing it exactly like the original, aren't. Steer clear of musicians who think that way.
Bit over the top to stay steer clear ? I think any band who says their goal is to play it straight is aware it won't be to the mm
9. I think some of the experiences people seem to have had in covers bands is a shame , because I've had some good times with some like minded people , but I totally get why playing with people who make comments like the guitarist mentioned in the post above ruin what might have been an enjoyable project We had no rules in our covers band , some songs we tried play something near the record , right down to the right sounds , and other times we altered the instrumentation , structure or feel , both I found an enjoyable process and achievement
10. Definition of original is also difficult , what do people expect to hear ? Oh my , he's playing an E , not very original Is a 12 bar blues song with new modern lyrics about social media stress original ? I love covers and originals , I think I'm lucky to enjoy both camps , I feel some are missing out on the simple joys Some further silly thoughts Covers For me most covers gigs are about the party , like a disco but with a band Some however are like listening to an album but with a visual and live experience
11. I would guess all inventive artists over the last century's have started out covering those that came before There's room for everything , why be down on those enjoying covers both players and audiences, it's possible to love lots of old and new stuff at the same time I guess there is always less new ways to make music as time moves on
12. Love the trace sounds, but I'm happy to trade my markbass trace emulation for weight
13. With our 80s stuff I would always look at live versions of the songs over the recordings , some of those bands couldn't put the studio sounds on stage anyway even with their budget , but it did give some nice alternate things the aim for over the records Not a favourite song of mine , but an electric version of sweet dreams is a good example of what they did live themselves
14. Id use my PB62RI with the old flats that have been on it since I brought it years ago But any bass that suits you , lots of country folk use bright sounding bass these days
15. What about a genre called "Roman Times Mod Pop" ?
16. This question is similar to "mod" as in "modernist" so is the guy in the zoot suit no longer a mod as the guy in the latest sports hoodie is
17. That's my thought also, but how popular in sales before it's classed as pop , because it's below that line , it can't be failed pop , or is just that fact that the band who made it and their mum's like it enough to make it pop? Please forgive me in buzzing on post chemo steroids
18.
Depends what you mean by good. Define good music.
If someone likes it then it's good , for them at least , even if that person was the creator of it or just one other person
19. We've played sets where we have seriously emulated some songs and done others in different genres and sounds , does it all have to be one way or the other ?
20. I copy Ashes to Ashes as the original and live trying to get that down I also really love the Ashes to Ashes cover by War paint which is completely different Does this end thread ?
21.
Does it have to "sound like the original"?
No it doesn't , but you can if you wanna I love emulating JJ burnell sound (even on walk on by) but there's nothing wrong with playing a stranglers song with a fretless and chorus if you want too The whole thread is silly , nothing is right or wrong , but the debate is fun
22.
Our singer was not an impressionist, why should the bass player be?
Because he might like it , but your right he doesn't have to
