1. sold to local who expressed interest when I suggested I was putting it up for sale, he had it on trail for a few rehearsals, but has now confirmed the sale
  2. I brought a mag head and cabs when I got back into playing earlier this year, did a gig and it lacked, traded it back in, am now happy with LMII(light) and orange cab (heavy) I cant comment on the other ashdown gear, but it seems the mag is the buget end and you get what you pay for
  3. well if anyone is still interested, i gigged the 115 and 410 orange, we played very loud outside on friday night, the rain stopped and the gig went very well, anyway the orange sounded fantastic, and another band who came to see us, said it was clear, punchy and present in the mix throughout, so I am pleased 115 is not to bad a lift for me, 410 is going into hibernation until we start gigging again after the summer Still want to check a vintage out sometime
  4.
If you buy a 300W amp head, you won't have to worry about having enough power. Anything less, and you might find yourself wanting. So save until you can afford a 300W amp head. Hartke heads sound good and they're fairly cheap. Cabs... If you've got a friend to help you load in and out, look at the Ashdown MAG 410T. It'll handle 300W happily, sound good doing it, and it's pretty cheap, especially if you can find one used. But it's a two-man lift. If you want a personally-portable bass cab, especially if you've got stairs to negotiate, you'll be looking at pricey gear.
I did buy the ashdown evo 300w head and found it lacking (through mag cabs) in a pub gig situation, it was with a loud band, but the gear I am using now is fine and although I have the headroom dont think I am using more than 300w of it to cope, obviously I cant comment on any other 300w head
  5.
Itll sound totally different. You might like more you might not. Years ago I was told the Ampeg 8x10 was one of the best cabs ever. I bought one, and it wasnt. Unless it was really loud it was dull.
You mean when paired together? Well the 115 is coming today, and I will gig them together on friday (hope its sunny then we will be outside), so will let you know
  6.
Help. I have a MAG300 amp, with 2x 8ohm speaker outputs which I use with an Ashdown MAG 1x15(8ohm) cab and an Ashdown MAG 2x10(8ohm) cab. What I want to be able to do is add an extra Ashdown 2x10 cab, to effectively give me the option of 2x 2x10's as well as the 1x15 at the same time, but this obviously wont work without some thought. (I don't want to have a 4x10 cab as it would be too heavy for me to move, let alone put in the car) Can anyone tell me how I would wire the speakers up, I can use a soldering iron, a drill and a screwdriver(!) and not averse to a bit of DIY. I would want to be able to use one of the 2x10s with the 1x15 as well..so this requires some thought. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated Shaker
I owned this set up and it fell short in a pub gig situation, i ended up trading it back in, I am not up on the tech, but cant see how else you can get more out of the 300w head even if you swap to a 410 will it be any louder? sorry to say but if the MAG 300w with 2x 8ohm cabs is not given you enough, then like me you may be happier cutting your loses if you can throw some more money at it (little mark II head gives me more than enough to play in a loud pub band)

    Setlist advice??

Don't end a set on an instrumental. .

just received the set list for fridays pub gig, and how strange, guitar solo at the end of first set (neil young) and the 2nd set (smoke) who wrote the set list, you can guess anyway to answer the first post, my pop covers band played 23 in 2 sets last week, to be fair some of them only last about 2 mins, short and sharp, went down very well, we did and encore "one step beyond" requested as we played it earlier in the set, drunk 40 year olds doing the dance loved it rock covers band this week 2 sets of around 10 songs + too many guitar solos!
  10.
I'm in Redhill so if you wanna pop over sometime to have a look/listen/play with the Vintage then gimme a shout
thanks for the offer, may take you up will check your gig dates and see if I can pop along sometime, always love seeing covers bands re: barefaced, I have now got an orange 410 and a 115 won on ebay for £156 which I believe is light enough to take to rehearsals unlike the 410 which will only come to gigs, heavy I know, but out of everything I have tried, these did it for me. Both cabs together is over the top power wise, but I am guessing the sound and punch will be fantastic, gigged the 410 on its on last week and everyone in the band loved it (even got a lift into the truck by my wife), anyway as I said 115 for practice, shift the 410 for gigs Perhaps I should'nt listen to the barefaced or paradox of choice depression may set in
  11.
lojo, whereabouts do you live? I'm gigging a Vintage next Saturday in East Grinstead if you're anywhere near...
I am near Esher, wont be able to make saturday, but let me know any other dates when you are near me, would love to come sometime
  12. musicman I used a 4ohm Zoot 2x12 which to be fair was great but just lacked something the orange has in a full band situation Yes I may get the orange 115, over kill using both cabs at most gigs id do, but as you say lighter so maybe the one Id rehearse with mostly The shop was saying a MB 410 HF would be ideal for me, I am sure it would be, but I just could not bring myself to part with the best part of a grand for it uncle Thankyou for your interest, Id consider the barefaced cabs and did try to make contact with they guy (Alex?) who replied and was just leaving for hols, I fear I maybe to far down the orange route now, but could be talked into changing the orange to one if its a better long term solution Obviously I am searching for a sound that is way beyond my playing/gigging level, and anything would do really for the kind of pub gigs i'm playing, but I just seem to be craving a certain sound and presence, I did play some very big venues in my early days before giving up playing and gave no where near as much thought to gear back then (think mostly they just provided big trace elliot stacks)
  13.
Think this thread is the right one http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...80&start=80
Thanks for the prompt replies guys - Musicman20 I see you have the orange rig, despite the advantages of lightweight, Ive fallen for and purchased an orange410, gigged it last night and loved it, I was wondering if you use yours much and if so why do you choose it over the other gear you own, not sure if I am going mad, its heavy but seems to have something the lightweight cab I borrowed to try doesnt
  14. Brought new earlier this year, it has done 1 gig and a few rehearsals, as new condition except for the obvious on the pickguard (which may come up as new with a polish) Very good reviews for these basses wherever you look £160 for bass only Based in Esher, Surrey
  15. anyone got any pics or a link that will show me what a vintage barefaced looks like? thanks
  16. Sorry guys another which cab question Had a little mark II head for a while with no cabinet to go with it (traded it for my ashdown evo gear which i didnt like) Now with my old SWR combo miss firing I need to get a cab to go with the mark bass and sharpish Love the look of the warwick 610 (never heard or lifted one), music shops seem to suggest I would be more than happy with a Markbass 104HF Could afford (or stretch to!) the Mark bass, but dont want to spend £900 when £500-600 would make me happy Difficult time/distance wise (and the fact that you have to order most things) to play it before buying, so will have to make an informed choice and take the plunge Suggestions and comments gratefully received (covers bands no PA support)

  18.
Question #2 - You can get a whole load of hardware very cheap off of ebay, if you dont mind not using branded parts.
Wont mind not using branded parts, but would prefer to only buy unbranded parts that are recommended as up for the job, I guess that means they are becoming branded though? Trying to alter the outline of the body slightly so its still a jazz, but has an individual look

  20. Hi Going to build my first bass, but I am going to use an off the shelf neck first time round Will be copying a jazz bass to scale, keeping it simple first time round, making and spraying the body (wow i can have any colour I like!) So I need to go shopping 1. Any recommendations for best place to purchase a decent finished maple neck w maple finger board ? 2. Any recommendations on make of hardware and electronics, I have no preference if they are standard fender or not? (I plan to order these soon to put pressure on myself to get on with the body construction) 3. Any comments very welcome at this stage Thanks for any comments
  21. Thanks Al Did some unscientific thinking today re: first build, sadly it looks like if I wish to use an off the shelf neck bolt on neck I will have trouble making a ric styled bass as the pickguard finishes so close to the edge of the body where it joins the neck, leaving no area in the body to make the joint Perhaps I should do a standard J or P for my first build, both I have to copy, as I said I wish to do everything except the neck first time round Sorry if this should be a new topic
  22. Sent text yesterday morning re: interest in this cab? Do you still have it for sale?
  23. i took a risk and ordered a MIM 2009 standard P online (cheaper and colour/neck that i wanted than the shop quoting 2 months wait), plays lovely, ok there is alotf choice around the £400 mark with more features, but this bass is not bad if you want a basic fender, and the MIA standard is £500 more!
  24. Fantastic job, it has inspired me.. I am considering my first project, which may be a ric styled bass However at this stage would go for a bolt on purchased neck, so first project would be just body and hardware etc, and pehaps tackle necks in future years if all goes well! Warmouth do a paddle neck that is 8" by 41/2" and 13 degree, I may be able to cut the ric shape into that? (dont have ric drawings yet) Just to note I said Ric style, not perfect scaled copy, so I would be happy with the bolted neck What did you use for the binding trim? that feature is crucial I believe btw this is my first post, so hi all
