It Mick Fleetwood's autobiography, in relation to him and John Mcvie he talks about how one plays in front and the other plays behind the beat. Guess it worked for them!
Yes, but not to my ears...never liked the pair in isolation.
See this is what I mean. I have never consciously played before or after the beat, but we have made decent sounding music together for years, both aggressive and slow, so it's obviously a case of feeling the music. When someone says they do it consciously, I find it hard to believe . It's just a term I have not been used to hearing .
I notice it in drummers and I have trouble with a pushy drummer. I don't find it comfortable and the feel is so much hard work and has a bias I don't enjoy... This is why I notice it as I don't want to hear/feel or play like that, for the most part. Of course, it is a conscious effort, albeit natural, as these are the sort of things you talk about when you are trying to work out a feel for the song. You'd use terms like lanquid, lazy, greasey etc etc for a backbeat and these are all valid studio type terminologies, IMO.

If you have an ahead guy and a behind guy, then someone is going to have to massively compensate and the chances are the rhythm section will sound awful... so they aren't a match you'd pick.
We once auditioned a vocalist who turned up with an acoustic guitar, we asked if he intended playing it, and he replied, "no, I can't play guitar, I just like to have it with me all the time", and just stood it in the corner of the room. Just before we started, he asked if he could go to the reception for some food and drink as he had come straight from work, he came back to the room with two rounds of sandwiches, crisps, chocolate bars, and two cans of drink. He couldn't sing either, so he didn't get the job, but when we went to pay for the room, we found out that he had put his food and drink on the tab, so we had to pay an extra £9.50
Not so dumb...he probably just wandered in off the street and saw the opportunity for free grub... Probably been doing it for years.. But, I'm not sure I'd audition total randoms anyway....

I'm a 'behind' player which is what I always gravitate to, so I like a drummer who does the same. I'm really not a fan of 'pushy' and I'll not really enjoy that, tbh... but I can get along with straight on it players if I have to. I wouldn't pick one to pay with if that was always his default position, ideally. What I really don't like is if people play front or back and then can't control the tempo because of what they are trying to do... But generally, I'll file them under poor drummers so I'm not interested in playing with them,,,,and I would say I'm quite/very demanding of drummers in general

I agree Chris... it is the headroom you need rather than run the rig ragged. I think a 210 will do it in terms of being 'loud' enough but not at a tone quality I'd want... If often defends how much input you can put in as well... I don't put much in so my 500w is not like others 500w... I'm currently debating whether my 500w is enough....and atm, it is struggle I don't much go for. Too many compromises all over the place and across the fretboard. If I just wanted to EQ the low end, it would likely do, but I don't want to have to do that.. The amp itself is fine... just that it is too much work, whereas the 750 amp is just turn it up and I've got all I want. I agree that 750w is overkill but the amp has a volume knob, ...whereas the 500w is running out of gas, certainly at 8ohms... IMO.
-
Not sure what he thought that would achieve..?? Why on earth would someone think that would work... unless you've headhunted him and know all about his playing, but even then it's not the playing level... you'd want to hear how he'd fit with musical chemistry etc..??
-
If you have a 210 at 4 and 410 at 8...the 210 will get more of a load and struggle whereas the 410 will tick over and this is a balance to avoid If you had a 410 at 4 and and a 210 at 8, that would be a better spread. I do this with a 212 at 4 but ldeally you want a stereo amp to level up both cabs properly. But you amp wont be able to handle those combined impedences anyway. My next amp move will do this...I'm looking for a nice pre with a stereo amp underneath to take place of the TH500, most likely
Outstanding in their field?
Yep, the frontline vox are very good and their harmonies are exceptional. I don't know any better around here. altho I could think of one or two who are definitely up there and comparable
I haven't watched that clip because I can see from the thumbnail that he's slapping! Why do people demo basses by slapping? It annoys the pants off me. I want to hear the tone of the bass. Hrumph!
Well, he hasn't really got it down anyway in the video...but his finger work is worth a listen...
FFS a brewery in Holt , Wiltshire , you have NO chance of getting spotted there , I mean Holt , who goes there ?
And you'd think they'd make money on beer than a pub..!! A big brewery round here is amongst our best payers so I think this gig is taking the p** big time..

I wouldn't be in a band that didn't have very good vocals... Fortunately, my new project has 2 very good ones, outstanding even..

Sure, pay me cash, cheque or balance transfer...in £'s..
I tried gigging with just a TC RS 210 and that wasn't enough in a Rockband for stage volume with PA support .... I had to add an RS212 ... A Markbass cmd102p wasn't loud enough either.
Nope..wouldn't expect it to be... but it also depends what you want back from the rig... Some people can make do with just getting the volume up..and aren't worried about the tone. Wouldn't work for me...no matter how hard I wished it would.
-
But don't run them together...and doubt your amp could handle it anyway. I don't think a 210 can do a decent volume gig... but many here will say they do. Too many sound compromises for me to enjoy it so I wouldn't try to do it.

I don't know and maybe people don't want to or shouldn't say anything 3rd hand. I would try a search on here and see what that brings up

Thought that was going to Wynonna ( Judd ) Which is another project I'm looking at....

Markbass over Hartke.. IMO
Good news then
Well, you know when the rehearsal has a flat vibe, you begin to have concerns as to why. I know why I felt flat...because I thought it was flat... but it well have been that that is the way the guys work. Very quick and functional and get the job done, etc... but my thing to achieve for the evening was band chemistry rather than notes... which is just as well, as there a few choice ones... But..for all that.. I can hear that the band will get things quickly and can handle good parts so providing they can play beyond that and the band gels.. I think it'll do well. So.. I'm a bit moaney and on the surface with the way things go for music..but I've learnt to sit back and judge 24 hrs later...for some reason, it sounds better. In truth the tapes were a mess.. but I can hear beyond that and it was a tough ask to get those tracks off in 2 and half hours with about 4 days notice..

Most Beer Festivals only want to pay pub money... trying to get party money out of them...well, those gigs are like gold dust, but the good ones, and therefore bigger ones will do weekend camping and have tent and village that can hold 1000/2000 or more. Some towns are in on the act and therefore funded out of local rates, but only the big stages pay well... so you might be better off doing the pub stages as you get to park and the bill order is more relaxed as they aren't/can't afford to put 10 bands on...

Tonights target is Badman's Song and Woman in Chains, the former has less structure so will be a pig live in terms of format, but I'm going to enjoy rehearsing and playing it/them. We seem to be in a Michael Macdonald and Tears for Fears phase...
What do you use to / how do you record your rehearsals?
Zoom Q2HD which does video and audio. Run it for audio as Video takes up so much space on the card for my purposes. It is a real plug and play and forget device as all you need to do is set mic level and providing you aren't too far with your mix, it will compensate and record well. It is quite forgiving in this regard. Simple USB down onto PC. It is not always possible to select an optimum position for the band... so anywhere near a power point is my criteria and it is pretty useful. It can run off batts but I haven't found that useful as mine goes thru them too quickly. Nice neat simple device. https://www.zoom-na.com/products/field-video-recording/video-recording/zoom-q2hd-handy-video-recorder

Wasn't that knocked out by the rehearsal/audition last night but since everything was from scratch, the basic quality was there and playback today put it in another light. Parts and generally band jizz will come, evolve and work itself out but the project will have legs, I think ....
