I think this isn't a problem with the cab as such, but when you significantly upgrade a link in the chain it can "show up" the other links. Your TC deserves an upgraded cab to get the best out of both of them.
This... the cab is pretty fundemental..and that is fine if that is what you want from it...but you have matched it with a more capable amp and the cab is out of its league. So yes..you will most likely have to remedy this with an amp or cab change. As above..it is just a mismatch..but beware of very clean cabs... they can be unforgiving of your sound. There is a reason why gtrs liked Marshalls..
SS pre into valve power is the true path, SS gives control, which is the point of a preamp, all the good valve stuff for bass is in the power amp.
Don't agree with this, but don't want to trash a FS thread Go all valve, IMO and this would be one half of getting one very reasonably.
3. well tell them..just don't use the names.
4.
Bit of a sweepeing statement tbh as there are some very good single speaker cabs out there.
You might think so...but I've tried an awful lot of cabs over the years and can honestly say that anything with a single speaker in it will not work...and certainly not for me. 15 and 12's are too low in Freq response so you have to add a horn. Use a single 10 and you have to shape the cab so much to get the bass out that it compromises other things. I agree with the BFM models in that you can control the build aspect/QC and I have seen some very good looking examples built here by members. I am also always bemused by people thinking they can get away with just one cab..say a 1x12, just because they have/need P.A support. You will have the same problems unless you have VERY good monitoring and I'd question how many bands on here carry 4 way monitor mixes, for example. The only way you'll get away with this is if your drummer has the wrong dynamic playing his kit... which is bad news through a P.A anyway.. or he is TOTALLY sorted with his sound. And those guys are few and far between. If you have a loud drummer...you'll need a rig to compete with him.... and that is without starting on gtrs... If you go outside, stage volume becomes even more crucial and hopefully you'll be in a PA that has side fills or heavy weight wedges, ..plus the mixes, but then the crucial element is how good your sound check to sort all that is.
5. I'll buy them if someone buys my AG GS112's for £500 the pr
6. If you only want to take one cab, then it has to be the 210 for a quiet gig. A 15" on its own is a terrible cab, 99% of the time, unless it has a horn, IMO.
7.
120w should be way too low. It's not, trust me
Chris..I want to hear that Ag pre. You kept that quiet..!!!
8. Same here..I've got two festival gigs today to cram in..and need the rain to stay away.
9. Sit on it until you know what to spend it on
10.
I agree. But so expensive. I can't justify dropping £700-£850 on a small combo, but £475 is more manageable.
Understandable... but I would think you could get a MB 102 combo for £550-600 on here.
11.
Obviously you haven't heard the Barefaced midget.... My supertwelveT isn't too loud for home practice, but then I play loud!!! And I have 750 watts!!!! You have the classic? It shouldn't have tweeted, and even if you don't and have the 750 the tweetertone won't make little(if any difference) due to the cab having no tweeter and it's high end being limited to 4khz. I don't see why it wouldn't be a 1 cab solution. Any gig bigger than what the compact can cope with should be equipped with a PA support. I understand your thin complaint, but it should be made away that finding the sweet spot on the master volume between where it sounds thin and sounding full, and teeter it between. It shouldn't be to loud, if it you need to find a more sound economic place to keep it, away from Walls/corners/ raising off the floor, this will decrease the lows by -3db for each wall and floor. So should be perceived to be quieter. (there are other thongs to bead in mind)
Nope..not in a million. Read what I said. One chassis aint going to be able to do it, as far as I am concerned. There isn't a 15 or 12 or 10" that will do it. I've use a few.
12. I think MB gear is a few levels up on GK, but If you like the GK sound, then sure, good move.
13.
Unless you play very quietly, I don't think rigs this small will cut it.
I'd tend to agree. The 102 combo is great but for a loud drummer, you'll need another cab. You might be able to get the 121 combo to work ..again with another speaker. Depends on your volume. Combos pushed hard tend to lose a lot but the MB amp is desgined to push cabs to 500w so this is better than the single speaker combos Have to say...not a fan of one speaker doing it all, though. It doesn't work for me.
14. One cab soution...?? zillions of them... 1 speaker solution...? not a chance, IMV. I can't recall ever hearing anyone with a single speaker sounding any good.
15.
A bit like that old Arnold Palmer quote (I think) about golf being a game of luck - and the more he practiced the luckier he got.
Gary Player, I believe.
16. Don't agree that talent is defined as "product of environment and opportunity" at all. That is not talent, that is circumstance. Not saying it isn't helpful or even critical but not in itself, talent.
17. It isn't the instrument so much..it is the clones that do it, IMO.
18. Swap over eons ago... as I wanted that softer bass sound that I couldn't get from my amp and a pick. Nowadays I have a thumb mute style to emulate a 60/70's West coast film score sound should I want to ..but don't use a pick. Other Funk players with picks...?? Randy Jackson. The guy from PAL....can't recall his name, but am sure someone here will. Glenn Hughes
19.
Cheers, I'll be there for the first weekend, then back towards the end of the week as work/weather allows, so might see your band Thought id bump thread, anyone else playing there ?
Nope..but doing the Kent Beer fest next week..Ashford in the Park, Folkestone Harbour Fest to name just 3 in July. Also Farriers 3 dayer..which potentially could be the best of the lot. All East Kent
20. Personally I don't think you should pactice things at all... but you should have your chops up to a level that it all flows. For that you will need a regime.
21. Sell it. If it isn't good enough to play, then it isn't good enough to keep
22. If you want a close sound, put a MM type pup down near the bridge as per a MM. You'll have to accomodate a pre amp to go full MM... and I doubt it will be cheap. Might as well think about getting an MM... as all their design spec was to update the classic P-bass anyway..so same sort of Dims, feel, etc
23. Good result.... flukey maybe, but if it worked, then that is what matters most. I would think you could market those Eden chassis' if they don't make or supply them anymore. Always devilishly hard to get replacement bespoke speakers if the maker is not forthcoming with the specs which most aren't and that range has been discontinued.
24. Depends what you start with..and what can be embellished, and developed, but basically I'd say no to the OP. Som people can get astonishingly good in a relatively short space of time because they just have IT..others would never get there in a million years. But the variables are what inate facilities do you have lurking and can develop.
25. I think they played better than they looked..which was awful. A hapless effrort by UK makers that was all but doomed from the start. That kind of tells you something.
