Definitely an over priced (BIN at least) studio Gibson.

I assume Photobucket is going the same way? A lot of these older sites seem to be struggling.

My Gibson Thunderbird sounds great through anything by Ampeg but I suppose it depends on tastes.

Two shows in the last three days. Both times the band nailed it. The first one was great all round. However last night was a smaller crowd and bizarre in that the landlord of a small village pub was off his head on coke!?! Didn't it used to be the bands that took the drugs and not the other way around? I'd spent the day practicing the songs I was weaker on so it made for a better performance.

I started to learn at 15 but being lazy didn't really start to apply myself until I was in my 30s and 40s. Age is no barrier.

Forgive my newbie-esque question but after 20yrs on flats I'm a recent convent to roundwounds. I noticed on my main gigging bass the strings are dead already. I played live last night and I have a show tomorrow. If I restring today will they have settled down for tomorrow night or should I do the gig and restring at my leisure. There's some life in them but they do need changing.

We've done a few festivals this year and I was majorly spoilt at the first couple with an Ampeg SVT 810 cab. However the last couple obviously had sourced rigs from amps lying around in mate's garages - I had a tired looking Peavey combo that was nearly as old as me. I hate it when you get the tech spec through and it promises one thing and delivers another. We couldn't even get the Peavey to work at first due to a knackered input and they all had the audacity to ask me "is it your lead?"!

I'm mid 40s and very guilty of throwing rock star shapes. I was doing it at 15 and I just default to still being like it now, without really thinking about it. Some go for the Bill Wyman thing which is great if it works for you but I still can't shake the Paul Simonon thing, despite not having actively listened to the Clash for years. I'm not saying it's right or wrong, but I guess as you get older you become more comfortable in your own skin.

I've played in one out & out rock 'n' roll band and several that have done a fair bit of it - I'm passionate about the music so love it. It usually goes down well with crowds because people know it so if people aren't so keen on the genre, this can carry you through. Most of the members of the full on rock 'n' roll band that I played with were actually into much more modern music but it seemed to work just fine because they took it seriously. I say what have you got to lose by trying it?

For the gigs I do that'd be wrong on every level! I want one now

I have Elvis Presley's Love Me Tender scored on my arm as part of a sleeve. I just googled it to find it. It was the first song I learned. I sat at the back of a plane coming back from New York once and this lady was staring at my arm. I was just about to tell her it was rude to stare when she said "Love Me Tender, I was just reading your arm". A very cool moment.

I appreciate lots of bass players belong to the Bill Wyman school of bass move (singular) but a few of us do like to go for it. I guess the more seasoned of us get to finally tune our stage craft. However a recent article with 80s hair metallers Ratt all falling out for the millionth time did make me laugh. The old drummer criticising the bass player's moves sounded like sour grapes until I saw the moving gigs. Any other contenders out there for most questionable stage craft? We have supported him twice, once in Newbury back in 2009 at one of his own gigs and again at the Tartan Heart festival in Scotland last year. Nice guy, great band.

I've had SVT stuff in the past but have been using the PF stuff in the last few years. Although I have settled on the PF50T all valve head, the 500 & 800 heads are great (not tried the 350). I have the 4x10 and a 1x15 but having played the SVT 8x10 I do think you are well on your way with a 2x10 coupled with either another identical cab or a 4x10. The 8x10 is my dream but just such a back breaker. Personally I like to run the Sansamp Tech21 which has SVT settings. My tone usually gets favourable comments from the musicians whom I admire. I did the same on my P-bass last year and wasn't happy. I left it alone a few months and now my bass has "character". I've since dinked the body so loads of mojo.
