1. I remember those when they were out originally
2. I've never had a rider although I have done a few gigs over the years where food has been laid on. I found a great site the other day on celebrity riders but can't find the link now... if it does show up, I'll post it. It was very eye opening!
3. Forgot to do this Saturday morning but I managed a Folk jam on Friday night, a short set on the double bass where it was £8 a ticket and sold out! We did well and it was enjoyable. Still getting my head around the double bass a little but certainly more comfortable with it.
4. Just to say I bought his 1x15 Ampeg SVT Classic cab - smooth transaction, fairly priced, nice guy to deal with. Thanks Chris
5. I don't think it hurts. I used to do it a bit. I don't really now. If you do it too much it will become a bit too much of a "oh, here we go again" but depending on the song & the style of music you do, it's not a problem.
6. I wouldn't say I'm a collector but I've amassed a fair bit over the years; A framed Waylon Jennings picture in my hall. A signed tshirt by Jesse Malin (who also signed most of my CDs of his) Chris Hillman's autograph (my favourite musician / bassist ever) Rick Buckler signed my fag packet when I used to smoke Huggy Bear signed a photo for me A signed copy of Music from the Big Pink signed by Robbie Robertson
7. I think it depends on the genre people play. I play country / roots / americana type stuff so you can feel your way through most things. If I was in a prog band it'd be different.
8. I had to take up hobbies and meet real people.... it was awful! Thank God you are all back!
9. Taking over from Jean Luc Pickguard, I was going to say The Band! Them or the Flying Burrito Brothers.
10. I love the seafoam one. If I owned one it'd be that... and I'm only typing this as my wife is out!
11. I've owned 2 Epiphone ones and both were seriously good basses. Tokai make great stuff and I've often wondered about their T-birds. The reality is that I am not really a T-bird kind of bass player (just a fan from the sidelines). If the quality of Epi T-basses is as good in 2009 as it was in 2004 I reckon you can't go wrong with either.
12. Just make sure you don't bang your bass on the phonebox door getting changed before the gig people!
13. I had the same with my 20yr old P-bass. The bridge was actually rusty underneath from when I used to play with a pick in my punk days and rest my hand on the bridge. Some sweaty gigs and as a result the bridge was pretty knackered. Copper tape was the answer again. The bass wasn't earthed properly as it needed a clean up.
14. I just bought a Resonator Bass which is extremely good fun. Not like a double bass but it loosely fits that sort of look, although tonally very different. I think depending on what style of music you play, it may be worth considering a traditional bass guitar. I play acoustic-y music and if I don't use a double bass a P-bass is fine. Rarer than hen's teeth to stumble across but here's my resonator bass
15. Looks great! I love the attention to detail all over. The neckplate is a nice touch. I've got mine done but they are not as detailed as that
16.
sorry..... who's Matt Garrison? I take it hes good then
You mean to say you've not heard of Matt Garrison? No, me neither!
17. I think audiences respond well to stuff they know. So it's classic cheese. We do a bunch of Neil Diamond stuff that goes down great - I've never heard anyone else do this in pub gigs but the reaction is incredible.
18. Harley Benton are of course Thomann's own brand. My only experience of there's is a Harley Benton acoustic that was so warped and had an action of an almost an inch at the 12th fret that it was basically good for firewood. Kind of off putting.
19. But he's got 100% feedback from the one time he used EBay 12 months ago!
20. Someone on Talkbass talking rubbish? I find that very hard to swallow! In some circles (amongst 5 string players for example!?!) this may be the case but you have to ask yourself why is it whenever you go into a shop, flick through a tuition book or see a band on TV it's usually a 4 string bass / player.
21.
well we play hard rock/ metal, its just the rhythm in the solos does drop, it just missing the cut the our old guitarist gave it.
If your lead guitarist adapted his playing and used more double stops as opposed to single notes you'd be amazed how big the band can sound. I agree with the earlier post which says change what you play, pedals shouldn't be relied on too heavily. I think you'll find it'll wake the band up a bit (& I say that not having heard you).
22. I mic my amp up. One thing which amazes me about this site is that nobody ever mentions kit shares. I find with bass all too often there is a house backline or a kit share which prevents me from using my own gear. Granted, I could always take my own amp but as bass amps aren't the lightest I tend to go with that arrangement
23. I'd love to play the US! Sadly I can think of a million excuses why I can't drop everything and go on tour abroad. Still if they are genuine it's a great opportunity. I don't doubt I'll get to play a show in the US at some point in my life
