1.
Well, kind-of. I was born in August 72... But get this: I've just had the neck off it to take a photo of the heel, and guess what? The bass isn't a 73. It's a 72. August, to be specific.
And your still selling it?
2. I haven't seen these since the late 80s but do remember them
3. Even better than the 1968 neckplate the other week!
4.
Thanks, Mr. WH! It's only been on there since 9pm, and there's 20 watchers already. So.. we'll see!
I'm one of them and hadn't put two & two together until I saw this thread. You seem to have a lot of early 70s Fenders. Were you born in this era or is there some link?
5. I tried one in Dawsons (or played through one trying a bass which I bought) and was really impressed. Good tone and for a practice amp it's as good as it gets
6. This is the main design flaw on telecasters so stands to reason it could happen on a Sting bass or a 51 P style bass. Take the volume / tone control plate off and you can get to it from the back. Then you can tighten up the washer from the outside without twisting / breaking the wires. Once it's tightened it'll be good for a long while. Touchwood my 51 P-bass hasn't been a problem. It's a relatively simple proceedure though. Good luck.
7. I currently have one as my desktop wallpaper & I'm getting more excited about this amp the more I think about it
8. As a teenager I liked the bass players best in the bands I liked at the time. So those people who inspired me are NOT the reason why I still play but I think Duff McKagan (GnR) and Nigel Mogg (Quireboys) are largely responsible for my initial interest.
9. I often practice unplugged & I agree it's a little lazy as you do develop bad habits that then sound awful amplified. The advantages are it's easier!
10. Never heard of White Horse but it sounds like Gear4Music's own brand. I think the Peavey link is better too
11. I like the colours and you can't beat a good P-bass. A bit *too* heavily relic'd for my tastes but then it isn't my bass. Looks authentic on the relic job though which is a plus
12.
Only £519 new at GeetarGeetar BB
I know but they do tend to hold their value. I've owned and sold a number of classic series MIMs and it's amazing how much they go for. I still have my 50s RI (MIJ though) from the 80s
13.
Had a bit of a clear-out and now I'm tempted to buy this...... Bugger!!!
And the circle continues.... Nice bass though & you are not alone with this problem!
14. The 72 J-bass looks great & I love the collection. You appear to have the same problem with Stingrays that I have with P-basses!
15.
So far the main suggestions have beene: Peavey 210TX Ampeg B100-R Fender Rumble 100 The only thing is I haven't seen an Ampeg B100-R on eBay for a while now, but I'll keep looking. @BurritoBass: Thanks for the reassurance, I thought a Mexican was probably fine for him but I know that American Fenders tend to have a better reputation for whatever reason. We're not particularly loud, we play 60s and 70s blues/rock.
You're welcome - the Ampeg BA115 is alright too. I was ready to love the Fender Rumble & was really disappointed. Ampeg are much better with solid state than Fender
16. I reckon you'd get £400 for it - they are great basses
17. I love a bit of 50s rock n roll
18.
I mentioned this to my guitar builder, who suggested that he can get some pickups custom wound to be mid scooped...but is this the answer? Am I simply looking for the holy grail which doesn't exist??
Yes, it's one answer & a good one to boot. Holy Grail... Aren't we all?
19. The amp you suggest is perfectly fine & there is nothing wrong with Mexican Fenders. That amp may be a little quiet if he's playing with a loud band
20.
Dave Marks has the answer: http://www.davemarks.com/ menu YouTube -> Bad Habits for Bass - watch all of these.
Plus one http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kGZikYZsyNc...feature=channel
21. We did a bad gig in my old punk days when the whole band was drunk. My guitarist snapped a Les Paul and pushed it through a lighting rig. The repair cost him a bottle of whiskey. I threw my P-bass down and kicked it across the stage. It snapped the nut and permanently bent the neck (although I can't tell since the repair!). My pathetic tantrum cost me about £75 and I was on the dole at the time. Lesson learnt. I grew up. A bit.
22. In his defence he doesn't actually say whether the £9765 1979 P-bass actually sold?!?
23.
real bass players dont use picks
I mainly play bass with my fingers actually but I don't like to limit my techniques. The picks were bought by me for playing guitar.
24. The only one you don't seem to have tried is my suggestion of nail polish remover. Grab some off the missus (or a young emo kid!?!) and check it out. It really does work and I've used it on several of my instruments in the past.
