1. Looks great & very fairly priced. Just a thought but you have no photos of the headstock or a full length shot of the bass? I can't see this hanging around. Good luck with the sale.
2. Welcome to Basschat
3. Off the top of my head 1) Rick Danko for just being cool as hell. 2) Carol Kaye for playing on so many great things 3) Paul McCartney for helping me develop a sunconscious interest in bass 4) Skip Battin for waking up The Byrds and going on to play on so many great records 5) Steve James (who?) for making me want to be in a band whilst growing up.
4. Welcome to Basschat
5. It completely depends on what you are hoping to achieve. I'd like the Orange 115 cab with mine but when I spoke direct to Orange they recommended the SP210 for my needs. I went with their suggestion and I'm very happy. Perhaps the SP212 might suit you?
6. I've never seen instruments as gender specific. Each to their own but not for me
7.
I'd be wary about going to view it...given his/her other items for sale
Gosh!
8. I snapped a couple of E strings back in the 90s when I was still a pick player. Since then aside my amp head blowing in soundcheck at my last gig, no problems (the soundcheck was bad enough mind!)
9.
The MIM Classic Jazz basses are cool, a friend is looking at the geddy lee jazz bass at the moment, he said they have a really skinny neck, do you know much about them?
You're playing a Korean Squier? Those are great basses! The necks on the MIM Classics are similar, gloss finish. The 60s Jazz RI and the 70s Jazz RI are both stunning basses. The 70s has the cool block inlays where as the 60s one has the more trad pickup configuartion i.e. not so close to the bridge. Both are worth checking one.
10.
Ideally id like a Yamaha sbv500 but cant find one for sale anywhere
Have you tried advertising in the Basses Wanted section here? Failing that I'd opt for a MIM Classic Jazz bass, skinny necks & cool as hell
11.
You say an overdrive might not fit, but I think otherwise.
Given the amount of replies to say otherwise, coupled with my general ignorance around effects I'm happy to accept I may be wrong here
12. Welcome James
13. I was always a reluctant admirer of fretless bass until I heard Rick Danko
14. The main difference I notice is that the Squier's have glossy necks where as the HWY1's have a duller neck. If you prefer the matt feel of the neck then yes, go for it but personally I prefer a glossy neck. I'd go for a MIM Classic personally as they are really great basses. Vastly superior to the MIM Standards and as a big a jump as from Squier Standard to VM IMHO. Personally I don't think it matters what it says on the headstock. I started on a Squier and have owned a couple since. A good instrument is a good instrument. All my basses are Fender at present but that's just the way things have worked out and nothing to do with any badge loyality or snobbery.
15. Welcome
16.
Might seem a bit dated but this really cuts it for me... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r7Bq9YdDVc8
Positively modern / cutting edge compared to me
17.
I had a Terror 500 for a while. Having not been able to put both volume and gain on more than 2, in gig situations, I can`t see why the Terror 1000 has been made. It would probably cause the O2 Arena to collapse!
You probably have a heavier attack with a pick? Playing fingerstyle I had to have mine on about 5 volume and 2/3 for gain just in rehearsal but then I have a lighter touch. So I can understand it a bit more than I thought.
18. Tonally and I'd settle for that scenary too
19. Thanks for all the replies so far. Two added complications for you - Firstly I wouldn't want to spend more than £150 second hand on a pedal and secondly I'm not sure overdrive would suit what we do. Remember we fit in with Americana / Alt.folk so I'm looking at subtle embellishments rather than transforming a tone. Please do keep them coming. I've googled playing videos of the suggestions so far and there are no bad ideas at the moment.
20. Welcome Rob from another occasional mandolin playing bassist
21. I too favour the pendulum type and have a couple.
22. Welcome Reggie
23. Welcome Manu
24. I could add a bunch more to the original post but yes, love that old school vibe
25. I used to own one last time around when they did that as a limited edition model a few years back.
