1. Different angle but owning one has never appealed to me. I can see the obvious benefits but none of the bands I like use them so I'd always leave them for other players. I do what I do & if a band want something else then they get another bassist. I've tried them in shops & enjoyed them to play around on but they don't fit with the music I play
2. My Dad has a Land Rover & I borrowed it once to take my upright to a gig in London. From memory the headstock wasn't in the way as such but was between the two seats & blocked my view of Jim my guitarist (no major loss!) It didn't affect visability or the handbreak. That said I am sure I could have loaded up better
3.
The natural finish with cream dimarzios plus tort looks damn sweet! I'd bet that they were polyurethane finishes as opposed to polyester like on many (all?) of the MIMs though. My understanding is that the latter is more inert.
They were a battle with a lot of patience. Both are 70s finishes that lasted all of about 5 seconds. The other danger with the MIMs and Squiers are that you never know what you are going to get. The Sunburst and black finishes are sometimes used to hide a multitude of sins. That 1979 has a better looking back than front on the wood grain but I was lucky with both
4. I've stripped 2 Black Fenders; Now contradicting what others have said, Nitro Mors was the only thing I used. No chisel, no heat gun and no power tools. This is the thread to the last one I did and it contains lots of progress pictures http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...=stripping+body I'm happy to talk via PMs to anyone who wants any help or guidance but hope the thread offers some guidance. Most people think mine were professionally done which is a huge compliment as I'd not tried this a year ago. I loved the whole process and really bonded with the instruments doing it
5.
Nope, I would look in the classifieds here for a 62 RI Fender P. I'd probably go for a Japanese non-export one over a US model.
I too would go for a MIJ / CIJ 62RI. I wouldn't say they are necessarily better than the US but the quality is comparable BUT at a fraction of the price.
6.
Indeed, you've got nothing to worry about there BottomE. Of course ensure that in any interactions or correspondence you kill him with kindness and stick to the facts, but the auction mentioned it would be shipped in a hardcase and it was. eBay would definitely not find anything wrong with what you've done.
I agree with this. In the past I've done the same in a listing but actually stated that the case is purely for shipping purposes and actually added that the case should not be considered as part of the deal - if you like it keep it but it's not a reason for buying.
7. Flats will NOT sound like roundwounds. Great if you love that tone, avoid otherwise
8. I hate it more when all reference to what the item was is removed and it's just titles "Sold - Please Remove". A lot of us use the listings to get price guidlines too. So whilst I agree with the OP it's just a case of adding sold next to the original listing
9. He uses flats with a pick and does get a great tone.
10. It used to be across the thigh as I thought that was cool but it's got higher. For a long time now (years) I have it so the strings go across the fly area. I think because I got into bad habits in the early days they've proven tough to break
11. Most of the top players are using endorsements....which are free!
12. The gauge is in theory to reflect the tension you'd get on standard bass strings. They feel a bit different but you get used to them very quickly.
13. Is this him?
14. Welcome to the forum & yes, always nice to have an introduction
15. Welcome
16.
That's cos it is Welcome back.
Can't top that! Happy returns
17. I too wondered about this but to be honest at the bigger shows I just go through the PA anyway. Those SP cabs are actually louder than the Orange 1x15 cabs anyway. I do like the idea of a second cab though, either a 12 or another 10
18. Marcus Muller was on here a while back but that's another story & a whole other can of worms
19. Cheers. I thought that might be the case. It's poor they ignored the email but I'm in no hurry. Thanks
20.
Do you hobbyists go to work at any time not liking the journey/boss/co-workers/job/office/clients? I bet you do.
I think this is a very fair point. I'm sure all of us have at one point. Harrison Ford may get to cherry pick his roles but the average actor will take what is going. It's interesting the examples of working with convicted sex offenders and extreme political bands. It's not really something that comes up that much & the reality is musicians have to eat. It's interesting reading the Motown house bands comments on those legendary sessions. They were Jazz players after all.
21. For those who subscribe, when does the free gift come? I had my first subscribed issue & no gift. I've emailed them last week & in a bid to excell on customer service they've simply ignored it
22.

I was looking forward to this thread having pictures but I admit this wasn't quite how I envisaged it!
23. As a semi pro I get to pick and choose which I like. My Dad was pro in the 60s and wound up mostly playing with acts he hated. He stopped playing and has rarely played since. However if my income depended on it I'd certainly play with acts I didn't like. I think it's a different issue when it comes to bands with Nazi links etc and I would draw the line there personally. But in terms of would I back Boyzone etc, sure, why not? I'd charge 'em extra mind!
24. I like the new colour finish too Personally I'd have refinished the headstock as a matching colour and stuck ashtray covers on it but I doubt others would share my tastes. Loving the two stack knobs and the rosewood
25. I've got the 90s USA Ampeg 2x10 cab and it's great. I always fancied one of these. Good price
